Great review as always m8 I was waiting for this. Very impressed with the artic freezers performance especially it's fans two of them at 2000rpm vs mugens 1 fan at 1200rpm and they are quieter.. How they manage this I don't know I have the mugen and it's virtually silent I can attest to that.. Sadly for me the freezer wasn't an option due to compatibility but here in Greece you can get it for 5€ less than the mugen! I would love to see a head to head between these two both using two fans though maybe the tables will turn then? Maybe you could setup a quick test with the mugen using the freezers fans and releasing a head to head ? The mugen has a version with two 800rpm fans sold for a few € more maybe it's the cooler to get? Anyways great job m8 keep them coming!!

Its called the Snowman, you can get for around 16$ Would be really interesting if you tested that one out, you could compare to the results from this video. It wouldn't win as the one who could cool the most I am sure, but costing that much less, it might very well be the best BUDGET cooler if the money is tight. I am mostly curious to see how it compares to the 212. That is a cooler I know, that performs really well for the price, and is good enough to handle modest overclocks too.

Great roundup, i really enjoy your videos and presentation. I do have a comment, specially about the TS140Power, i feel something went wrong, at least on the 185W test, this is marketed as 360W TDP cooler thermalright spec sheet, even higher than Silver Arrow or the Le Grand Macho, it has some huge thick pipes, a very tight fin spread and big tall heatsink, all this characteristics are aimed into cooling a higher tdp cpu, given that the fan that it comes with its not ideal having a 1300rpm max speed, i feel it shouldn't have perform as bad as your 185W test shows. I have a small request, thats if you find it worth while, i would like to see the TS140Power vs NH-U14S, tested with the same fans and if you could single and dual fan, i would love to see them tested with Thermalright TY143 which have 600-2500rpm range, i can ship you the 2x TY143 if you give me an address or pobox to ship you the fans so you dont have to invest more money into a user request. I would love to see this headsup and both cooler are similar in size and many even say that TS140Power is better, but your test don't show the other way around, so to compare a apples to apples comparison with the same fan will definetly show if Noctua really its a better cooler.
@HardwareScientist5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't put much trust in TDP ratings that come from the manufacturer. They are basically just marketing. You might be right about the limiting factor with the True Spirit 140 Power being its fan. If I get some time I will try that test and see. I might also setup some way through Patreon where people can request tests and I will do them.

This guy must be on cr4ck dude. Otherwise you can´t make sense an arctic 34 beats a mugen 5 or ts140p at 185 tdp. Ts140p is still the top dog when paired with a ty143, beating everything, even if u place the ty143 on the others. The only way this could make sense, it´s if this was tested on ryzen 3000, but there´s no ryzen 3000 with 185 power consumption, and even if you can get it there, thermal density is too high to be handled by heatpipe cooling. That´s because the 3000 have high thermal density, 3600 to 3700x the die placed on the side, and also flat IHS, where mugen 5 and ts140p has convex base plate.

Hi. Can you tell me more about performance of this cooler with your Ryzen 3700x? What temps you are getting with aida64 and prime95 tests? What are the temps after 2 hours of straight gaming? What temps you get on idle status? I am standing in front of decision what should i get for this CPU, and i don't want to spend so much money ( for noctua for example ), so i am looking for decent cooler performance for reasonable price. @@PcManiac2022 Never gone over 70c while gaming for a straight 8 hours, most games it sits around 50-60c. While browsing the web it hovers anywhere from 30-45c, it can spike to 55 for a sec but that's normal with ryzen. I've never been bottlenecked by temps, however I should note I run a fairly flat fan curve from 0-70c that is slightly audible without headphones on, which doesn't bother me. This is because ryzen temps spike due to core activity which can cause cpu cooler fans to ramp up and down constantly. If you're not manually overclocking then Artic is great performance for the cost, I'm even considering the Artic Freezer AIO once it improves the mounting mechanism. I ran Aida benchmark once after I installed it and I think it never ran over 72c, however I don't like using that as a benchmark since Aida test loads are very unrealistic.

A TS140P hit 109c? Did you forget the thermal paste? There is an added bonus to the Arctic Freezer 34 Duo. The second Fan doesn't add much more cooling performance. So you can just mount one fan to the heatsink and use the other one as a similar looking case fan. A single faned version of this cooler is even sold by Arctic too. Also the fans are sold separately, so you can upgrade the Freezer 34 eSports to the eSports DUO later, if you want to do so. Warranty in world of CPU coolers is only useful for fans, as heatsinks are durable enough to withstand years of service. So if the cooler has 2 years warranty, in long run it does not matter. Heatsink can only be damaged mechanically, which voids the warranty anyway. With some high-quality fan (like Noctua, Be quiet, Noiseblocker, etc.) it can endure many years, with only thing to stop you being decline of support for new sockets. The only thing that Mugen lacks, is stronger fan with more rpm and static pressure (Kaze flex is just an airflow fan). Put a Noctua fan (P12 redux might be enough, but at least 1300rpm version) on it and it will perform on par with U14S, maybe even better. Put a second fan on it and it will outperform the Arctic by mile. Arctic fans lack QC, the fans are cheap garbage and you are paying extra for the colors (as always and everywhere else in PC parts) - they have good static pressure, but no airflow. The construction is fragile (many times fans arrive broken), many owners report bad pwm readings (somewhere up to 2800rpm, while manufacturer claims BioniX fans for up to 2100rpm +/- 10%) and they have some defects, like vibrations and noise in some rpm spectrums and rattling when mounted horizontally (oriented to blow air out via top of the case - it can also be demonstrated outside of the case, just put the fan on 12V adapter and turn it horizontally, it will start rattling immediately), which means cheap bearings used (supposedly Fluid Dynamic Bearing... bullsh!t - the pricetag is too low). The fan blades are too heavy for such small mounting in the middle to be able to hold it while spinning faster than with minimal rpm (let me remind you that most fans are designed in a way to run away from their mounting point, which must be prevented by construction). You can be sure that within those 10 years you´ll replace the fans many times, until your nerves break and you´ll just buy different fan. Also, better manufacturers have specs for fan MTBF, which Arctic lacks completely. If you don´t need colors, you can get it cheaper, as Freezer 34 with just 1 more standalone fan (for 2 fans in push-pull config) can be obtained for around 30$. But those fans are garbage too.

Just so you dont waste your time, the Cooler Master is in fact best performance to price out of them all. But if you are okay spending 20$ ish more dollars, just get a high end one. The extra performance will still be worth it. I have a CoolerMaster and it keeps my CPU pretty cool while on a very heavy load and staying relatively quiet. It's all black look also makes it easy to mesh with just about any build. If you are using a higher end CPU, I'd just spend the extra money for a liquid CPU cooler.

@MrAwsomeshot3 жыл бұрын
considering the ol' 212 is basically the forerunner to all these vertical heat pipe horizontal fin boi's and came out like 10 years ago its impressive it is still hanging around. Kinda wish I had watched this review I may have gone with the artic instead of another 212 evo. My H80 v2 just failed and I am done with AIO's for awhile this is the 2nd one to fail in 2 years.

I was nervouse about my CPU temps at 60 degrees with my hyper 212........ but then I saw that Intel stock white line.... Christ! I think I'm safe at 60 degrees. lol
@acegh0st4 жыл бұрын
You can buy a Hyper 212 BE with 2 push/pull fans for cheaper than most of the other coolers you tested. In that configuration it would have probably been one of the best performers. Odd you chose to use its base config, even though it’s so much cheaper than the others...

I actually have a white esports duo and i was sort of doubting its performance, but after watching this i was relieved that this beautiful cooler lives up to its numbers. It looks sick in my white and black themed pc

Your videos are amazing. I am buying an Arctic Duo. Why bother with a Noctua for 2° less when its 2x the size, price and looks ugly?

The more expensive coolers not performing better are probably due to low heat dissipation requirements. You should try this again with higher CPU TDP.

No DeepCool Gammaxx 400 for $20? It's not the best cooler, but it would have been nice to see how it compares for the budget range

I would like to point out that among all the techtubers I watch, you have the most concise, easily understandable and relevant graphs I ever seen. your content is amazing and you earned yourself a sub today.

So basically, sacrifice your stock cooler to the tech gods the moment you unpack it and get yourself something like the Freezer 34 instead.

The Arctic Freezer performance is great thanks to their fans, they are one of the cheapest fans here, but they provide really great static pressure. I've put 2 of them on Mugen 5 and temps dropped by 5-8 degrees.

Wait so you got both coolers and swapped the fans or can you buy the fans and cooling Part individually

I will cover CPU coolers for a while and then do cases, fans, and possibly monitors. GPUs might be possible, but they are really expensive so we'll see.

Should of done a graph of fan speed and temp much easier to understand important imo
@Psi-Storm4 жыл бұрын
fan speed is irrelevant, because the noise differs between fan blade design and cooler block. Either you look at a specific dB like 30 and get the coolest there, or you look at end of the lines to determine which cooler produces the lowest temperature ignoring noise, depending on your specific use case.

The title and some comments in the video are a bit misleading. There are plenty of decent coolers that are cheaper than most of these. A 50 dollar cooler really isn't a budget cooler. My suggestion when you go for this price area would have been to include the Brocken 3 aswell. You should have called it medium priced coolers or something alike instead.
