@MrGluGlu9 ай бұрын
@@ZeusFuentes they are a lot better than TN panels. I had to push mine back towards the wall a bit to avoid some gamma shift on the bottom of the screen. I am coming from an IPS and I have kind of got used to it, just have to make sure the monitor is facing you when you are using it. So overall I would say it’s pretty manageable, just annoying if you want to view off axis for whatever reason.

My issue with VA and TN, is that if looked staright at the center of the monitor, then only center is not off axis, bottom is always a bit brighter/washed out, while top is darker. Ideally such monitors need a top to bottom curve to compensate for that, so the monitor becomes spherically curved, or viewed from a longer distance, which isn't great for desktop use.

I’ve found that RTINGS is very biased in terms of reviews for monitors. It seems like whenever there is a monitor that people really like, they review it and say the opposite or say it’s just decent. They do it with TV’s and even complained about Sony Bravia TV’s which are known as some of the best on the market. The only thing I trust them with is color accuracy/calibration and viewing angles. Even with color accuracy they like panels that look too dull, especially for gaming. They focus so much on “realistic color accuracy” that when you calibrate your monitor you’re not using the full capabilities of it. I like my gaming monitors to pop with the colors and not be overly dim or bright. So it’s best to look at RTINGS first and then watch videos of people actually using the monitor. Then make judgement on what the majority opinion is

When I found this monitor recently I was tempted to return the 32 inch ASRock I just bought - not a huge extra expense unlike an OLED, but the 27 inch format would seem to be a real difference. But considering in other terms for years and years I had a 30 inch 16:10 display as a main monitor so it would honestly not be a lot narrower, and this 32 inch (really 31.5) is only a bit taller. I still have a 27 inch display as a secondary screen and it honestly is a totally fine size in reality, in fact for some content and experiences I almost wonder if the larger display is too big- focusing on one area of the screen leaves a lot of content on the periphery, like with subtitled media and the text of JRPGs/VNs.

@@lilpain1997 I couldn't agree more about the difference it makes with no fps cost! Plus Mario + Zelda etc. would look incredible in proper HDR . I hope Nintendo takes a lot of minor notes from the Steam Deck OLED: it's amazing controller innovations, audio, crazy good engineering quality, and it's more pro consumer approach. Although I understand the Switch 2 will probably have to hit a cheaper price range and have less budget to work with

I've been wanting to get the Alienware Ultrawide oled for a long time, but despite having the money, it's still hard to spend $800 on a monitor. So I just ordered one of these, and I'll wait till Oleds come down in price more. The funny thing is this monitor is cheaper than the 1440p 144hertz one I bought in 2019.

@CK-bv3qb4 ай бұрын
I've had this monitor for a few weeks now. Decent monitor for the price. Gets very bright in HDR. VA Black smearing isn't too bad, especially for a budget option like this. It's not all roses though. VRR flicker is annoying, the menu system and buttons to navigate it are atrocious, firmware bugs and annoyances crop up in daily use and it also seems to clip very bright highlights in HDR just a bit no matter what settings you tweak. Much like Samsung tvs used to a few years ago.

Where do we get these in Aus? Can't find it anywhere except Amazon US with $200 shipping lol. Do monitors only last a few months on the market these days or something? Admittedly been a while since I bought one.

Thanks for the video! this channels is amazing btw now I don't know what's worse... if the blacks in an IPS panel or the brightness that gives this screen to bright objects in the dark 😐

I really like that HUB Essentials Checklist, both the manufacturers claims and the second screen with more details. However, it's kind of hard to read on a phone screen, which is where I usually watch KZbin. Do you have a website? A searchable database with those options and a link to the review could be really handy.

The viewing angle is a deal breaker for me, such a shame it's not an IPS because I don't always sit right in front of the monitor, I hope other manufacturers give us some alternatives

Must indeed have flown off shelves. I can find 1 on sale in the UK - it's used and £345 (so ~$350). Or you can import from Newegg if you're insane or brave enough (£270, plus shipping, plus import duties). Still, if it exists, hopefully more will follow!

Just got one and it’s great overall. However, mine needed calibration BADLY. The whitepoint was like 8500k and the gamma for dark colors was horrible. After calibration though it was fantastic! So much more contrast than IPS and it really makes a visual difference in games that I will take over better motion clarity any day. And honestly, the motion clarity is as good, if not better than my 2 year old fast IPS panel. So glad to finally have a good contrast FLAT monitor.

I have a year or so old AOC VA monitor (bought partly due to the promise of being a fast one for VA) and regarding overdrive and black smearing, there's an interesting thing to notice - it has a lot less black smearing and better general response times (meaning - it's not great, but OK for a VA panel with actual VA contrast, not reduced contrast like "fast" Samsung VA panels have) when the monitor is clamped to sRGB (be it via the rather bad in-built sRGB clamp or via something like novideo_sRGB) than it does in native gamut mode, and in HDR mode, it's even worse than in SDR wide gamut mode. Maybe something to look out for with monitors like this. Also, AOC seems to rarely release firmware updates anyway, at least for their cheaper stuff, so the absence of a USB port will likely not be a real issue in this regard.
@AlumarsX9 ай бұрын
I can't decide between this and the Gigabyte M34WQ. I already have an HDR400 4K 32" and my wife the GP27Q (although the local dimming is still impressive on it, the AOC implementation looks much better with the better base VA contrast). Ultrawide sounds tempting, but I don't know what I hate more, the washed out, low brightness IPS look or the VA black smearing and viewing angles lol.

I don't think I've seen this thing stay in stock on Amazon for more than a few days at a time. It's kind of wild, actually. I'm glad mini-LED is sorting itself out to some extent, because 90% of mini-LED monitors have been far too quirky and flat out busted for the price especially where HDR is concerned. It gives me hope that those 34 inch ultrawide mini-LEDs from Acer and another company coming later this year will actually be worth using. I'm seeing more and more mini-LEDs ditch IPS in favor of VA, which to me is the right call. It is so much harder to make local dimming work in your favor with an IPS panel, and it's a classic case of realizing you just can't have it all.

Dam, if only there was a user adjustable overdrive setting or even just a setting right in between medium or strong. AOC please give a firmware update to address this, that would take the monitor from a good buy if you are interested in HDR to nearly a must buy.

Tim lives in Australia where the AW3225QF is not released yet. The 321URX is not released anywhere yet. If he has recieved an early review sample of either I imagine he would make that the top priority, so he either is doing testing, editing the video, or does not have either monitor yet.
