Great review. There are two mods IMO that are MANDATORY if you buy this version of the pedals. Mine had a lot of friction and weren't as smooth as I was hoping they would be. Here are two fixes that create a night and day difference. 1. Remove the damper and sand down for 10-20 seconds with a light grit on the black plastic washers that mount the damper to the front of the pedal. these don't have great tolerances so making sure this isn't over tight and can move freely is key. if there is extra play just add some preload to the damper by pushing on the back of the damper and tightening it in place already activated. 2. This is THE single most important mod you can do take the two bolts out that hold the pedal to the base where the bearings are, pull this up and there will be a washer on the outside of the arm and bearing, but between that and the base. REMOVE all of these, two per pedal, on all pedals. This Removes ALL FRICTION this is a night and day change and will completely change the pedal feel.

I'm planning on picking these up to try and compare. Are you talking about the washers next to the bearing seen around 0:52 ... looks like it's a bearing insert and then there are washers sandwiched between the bearing and side plate. If so I can see why you say it will smoothen it if you remove the friction, my question is that isn't that washer keeping the pedal from moving left/right or laterally? I read another review on Reddit recently... .kinda make it sound like best option is to take the pedals apart, fix the tolerances, grease things up and then reassemble to really make them work. Before I do that, would you agree?

^These are the suggestions Ghost Sim Racing made in the Slim jack group, but then later said the washer mod in(2) is not the solution and you need a custom washer that only touches the inner race

@BMXAceCA 6 ай бұрын
@@TheCostprice It depends on what you are looking for, in his case he wants to sell a product of higher quality than the stock UT pedals so adding play or sloppy tolerances is against his philosophy in a sense. And yes Taylor is awesome in sharing qc issues and fixes on SimJack pedals and these both came from him. However it’s really not an issue in the video he shows how the whole pedal arm can go side to side, well you don’t use it like that, you use it with the guide rods and dampers attached, with these attached it prevents the pedals from being able to slide from side to side, both benefiting from the reduction in friction and when using with the damper as well it really adds almost no side to side play. It’s insanely easy to try just take the washers out and put them back in if you don’t like it. But I bet you don’t put them back in. Yes ideally a small shim or washer that doesn’t contact both pivot points would be ideal, but for me this was good enough and got the pedals feeling basically as smooth and good as some HE pedals I tried at microcenter. I still think I want to add some ptfe lube at a couple points, but the way I have them setup I am extremely happy and the value is unmatched.

Thank you for the review. I've received mine on 6th December and had through fun ripping on the Nordschleife with them. They're leagues ahead of the G920/G923 pedals I've used. I highly recommend lubricating them with PTFE lubricant (spray) on all moving parts (bearings, ball links, pivots, and the rod guides, just a small dab is enough). It will fix any issues you might have with squeaking noises and smoothness of travel, making them feel much more premium. I also suspect the washers on the dampers might be too tight, I will look into replacing them with stacks of teflon / brass washers. I've also read BMXAceCA's recommendation, and I don't think it's necessary to remove the washers from the pedals once you give it that little bit of PTFE spray.

Good review but one point that is interesting. Just like the other buyer who posted about 2 weeks ago, my brake is very misaligned with the load cell and spring base twisted well off to the right. I need to get pictures for inclusion with my review on the Ali site. I expect I can fix it by loosening all the mounting fasteners, aligning it all square and then tightening appropriately. Not the end of the world, but less than ideal to send out parts so terribly misaligned. And I am certain this was not shipping related damage because the box arrived in perfect condition. Couple with the proper packing foam setup, this had to be done in final assembly. Hope they recognize the issue and correct it for future buyers.

Just received mine today. Only had about 20 mins of testing so far. First thing I did after 2 laps was remove the damper from the throttle pedal. Felt very unnatural to me with damping, mostly when you release the throttle fast and it comes away from your foot felt horrible. Next thing I'm dealing with is adjusting to load cell coming from t3pa pedals with the squash ball mod. The preload spring takes too much pressure to overcome in my opinion. I don't want to use 60kg of braking pressure and if i set the brake pressure to wear I want I barely go past the preload spring. I will try tightening it later and see how that goes.
@Lee-xs4dj
@Lee-xs4dj 2 ай бұрын
There was a little free play in the dampers giving an initial clicking sensation. Solved this by loosing the bolts and applying a bit of preload onto them by pushing on them and then tightening the bolts back up. Much nicer. The less preload on the brake spring feels nicer to me for now. I want trail braking to be just in that springy spot so the smaller that zone is the more accurate i feel it is. Still 2 seconds off my t3pa best laps though 😂

Thanks for the review. I bought the UT's and overall they're very nice. I was disappointed with the Throttle spring, which felt extremely flimsy. I also noticed some creaking going on with the throttle, which I couldn't really pinpoint. I ended up selling them. I was looking at the Simsonn pedals, and the thottle black spring looks a bit stronger. Has that been your observation? It seems the Simsonn's can have some EMI issues, especially if you have a Fanatec base though. I was also look at the Sim Ruito's. Wondered if you had ever tried those? the three sets look very similar of course.
@SimRacingCorner
@SimRacingCorner 2 ай бұрын
The coil spring alone isn't up to much by itself on the SimJack throttle. But if you have it with the gas spring installed, then that provides plenty of tension. The spring on the Simpson throttle is stronger, but I'd still recommend the gas spring to go with it. I haven't used the Sim Ruito pedals, but certainly, there isn't much difference between all them, and mostly comes down to the composition of the brake spring set up.

I just started testing the Simjack UT and I have the feeling that the brake is very hard. Even on the softest yellow elastomers. I plan to look for some other (much soft) elastomers because the work of this brake is almost limited to the working range of the spring. What do you think?

@SimRacingCorner It's hard to compare our feelings. In my opinion, the elastomers that come with the UT kit suck (the yellow ones practically don't bend and the green and blue ones are already a stone). I mounted to them "elastomer kit heusinkveld" And now it is great. The brake pedal works in the right range and you are able to feel what is happening.

I asked this on the other video and I appreciate the measurements of the pedal sizes, but I don't know this off the top of my head. With these measurements did it fit the pre-installed/pre-made mounting plate? I am asking since I'd have to get a pedal plate redrilled (my own) or make a mount for anything that is similar to heusinkveld. It's a cheap cost, in reality, but I'm trying to map out my steps on getting a pedal set upgrade. They look amazing and have been on my radar for a while, as are most things from Simjack at the moment. (edit for clarity: I ask this cause it seems you mounted it on your wooden pedal stand that you have used in other reviews of similar fully mechanical pedal sets. I don't recall how you drilled the spacing on those, so I'm just trying to get measurements for them so I can send it into my company that drills the holes, or if that info for drilling is available or similar to an other more "common" set of pedals. Sorry for the confusing and kinda dumb question).

He does have a wooden heel plate, but the pedals are mounted to extruded aluminum with angle connectors. See that foundation form his desk video shots, but also seen in the rig shots with them in use. Just check out the sections of the vid with close shots of the pedals in use like starts around 8:53. All that to say that he uses the wide adjustment options of the aluminum profiles along with those in the pedal frame, without specific mounting hole spacing. Considering that the pedals have included large amounts of fore-aft slot adjustment range, the key for any user is to determine their preferred lateral spacing between pedals. This will be highly individual (personal preference along with car sim considerations) and potentially rig specific.

My only question is how these compare to the simsonn new pro pedals, is there any difference in terms of performance or is it just difference in package( ex.features, add-ons)
@nickstarlingch
@nickstarlingch 6 ай бұрын
Yeah, he just recently said the Simsonn Pro pedals are his favorite, now he's saying these are the best budget ones. They seem to be really comparable, but the Simsonns are available in black on Amazon. I'm wondering if the Simsonns have a similar clutch, these seem better than usual.
@Chader9

@@nickstarlingch The clutch between all these clones are essentially identical. They offer large adjustment range for spring leverage ratio which includes the regressive nature that mimics a bite point of a typical clutch.

Even better than Simsonn? What is the major difference?
@blakebevan1941
@blakebevan1941 6 ай бұрын
If i had to guess, probably just the stiffer elastomers included for those who want them. Most commonly ive heard with the simsonns that everyone runs the hardest elastomers straight away, since the others are far too soft. The simjack UTs seem to have better software, but then again SRC hasn’t reviewed the “new” simsonn pro, only the old ones and on simsonns page they advertise a new version for the software last i checked. My simsonns are coming in the next week or so, so i can let you know about the software then if you’d like

@@blakebevan1941I'd love to know too if simsonn's newer software version is up to par with simjack's. These two brands are too close in terms of quality. The software may be the difference maker.

@@blakebevan1941 he did review the new Simsonn Pro here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIG4p4mHlNakZsksi=Oyt0gcOPmuPTut6K Under one of his other recent UT videos he commented that the only significant difference is the better elastomers supplied with the Simjack UT (as you said) though. From this video it also seems like the Simjack control box is better shielded so they are less prone to EMI.
@TheCostprice
@TheCostprice 6 ай бұрын
@@danclark407 The other key difference is that the plate that holds the loadcell to the frame is 5mm in the UT, but 3mm in the Simsonn Pro/ SimJackpro. Some Simjack pro users who ran stiff setups would report bending this plate and damaging their elastomers after prolonged use. Not sure if this an issue with the Simsonn, I assume it must be to some extent. Overall the UT appears like a more durable pedal.
@Chader9
@Chader9 6 ай бұрын
@@TheCostprice 6mm (not 5mm) but the point is correct. These UT's should entirely avoid the bending issue seen on the 3mm Pro models and likely other clones as well.
