I find this method to be one of the best to use in the field. My motions are a bit more circular but that doesn't matter. As long as it works for you. With practice it can be done with stone holding hand at different angles or even moving around and sometimes not even looking at your work. It just becomes second nature. A good skill to have. I also carry a small rod for any recurve areas. Nice job!

That is a beautiful knife! I use a Falkniven DC4 as my main filed sharpener, and the inside of my leather belt laid out on a hard surface as a strop. A piece of stropping compound is easy to tuck in a repair kit or first aid bag to get the most out of stropping.

I use the same technique, as long as you lock the elbow and wrist you can get a very good working edge and keep the wear rate on the stone even. Well done as usual.
