Exactly! Sometime I use a totally non bushcraft knife to prepare my kindling just because I want to that day. It's called fun lol.

Hello Simon, Thank you for the great video. I know many people love Mora knives, but I just can't get beyond the plastic handles. I much prefer one of my puukko knives. Any of my Ahtis or custom puukko knives will do. If I'm hunting I usually pick one of my double leukus, the weight doesn't bother me as I grew accustomed to carrying a Colt .45 as a sidearm (my current job requires me to carry a .45 auto in a shoulder holster). I also don't baton, I carry a Karesuando Stoera Aksu for wood splitting. Everyone has their own preference, these are just a few of mine. Thanks again. Cheers, Steve

They are very popular for their cheap price and a good product But I agree with a puuko,its just a preference

I've moved away from Mora mainly because of the blade height . I now prefer a taller blade like a Kephart full flat . My favorite knife at the moment is the BK18 HARPOON and Brakimo . I'm also not big on zero ° scandi grinds anymore esp thin soft stainless moras. I always convex my blades either fully or partially... I really love my Brisa Skinner and Bobtail and highly recommend both knives. I build my own from blanks cause handles are to dang skinny when stock. Hope you are alive and well man, it's been awhile brother . 🙏😉
@SimonsDiscoveries3 жыл бұрын
I'm still here :) I, on the other hand, usually don't find much use for tall-bladed knives. They make it harder to turn while cutting or to curve the cut, so to speak. But that depends on what you use your knives for most often.

Good video. As always excellent video and audio quality. I liked the music during the testing segment without distracting blabber. Good idea in letting the viewer draw their own conclusion. I don't have the large Damascus knife or the Cold Steel folder. I have the others. My personal favorite would be the Mora. Even when I carry a large and expensive belt knife I always have some type of Mora in my pack or bag,

Thanbks. Yeah, Moras often end up as beaters lol But I guess that's one reason people love them.

Najlepszy nóż dla mnie to ten który sobie zrobiłem z ostrza HSS do heblarki marki Globus. Testowałem wiele noży w tym mory ale nic lepiej nie tnie pod każdym względem, oczywiście robiony na zimno.

It's more simple than that. Scandi grinds on Moras, makes them great fo wood carving or as a ultility knife in a tool box, however, for other uses, like hunting, food prep, and so on, I would choose a dedicatd hunting or a proper foodprep knife. As for the modern "bushcraft" term, that's just a marketing trend, that worked well, so well to the point. knife and gear companies got rich, or even better, companies/jobs created just becasue of that "KZbin marketing trend" called bushcraft. Before KZbin era, no one knew what buchcraft was. The later years, they mixed it up, with another word that "Sells" called Survival" and even though they are the exact oposite, now they work together, as a new, refreshed marketing trend, which kept that idea running....
@SimonsDiscoveries2 жыл бұрын
Well, people did know what bushcraft was long before KZbin though. The first time this term appears, to the best of my knowledge, is in the book Bushcraft by Richard Harry Graves in 1940. Then, in 1987, we have the book Northern Bushcraft by Mors Kochański and later in 2004, Ray Mears' Bushcraft on BBC. All before KZbin. It became far more popular because of KZbin and the internet in general but so did almost everything else.

I think you demonstrated that the thinner the blade the better it will slice and the shorter the blade the more control you have. Now you need to demonstrate battoning as that will change the dynamics considerably.
@SimonsDiscoveries6 жыл бұрын
True, true. But demonstrating cutting and slicing, plus dealing with all the hate on battoning would be too much for one video lol

Hi Simon. I'm thinking of paying a visit to Poland to do some winter bushcrafting for about a week. Are there any areas you think would be particularly good for a trip ?
@SimonsDiscoveries6 жыл бұрын
Hi. Great idea! Lots of places but it all depends what specifically you're looking for. Some of the most beautiful spots are in the mountains along the southern border and in the north eastern forests. But those are mostly national parks so not really suitable for bushcrafting. You'd need to find a regular, national-forest-type place in the vicinity, which shouldn't be difficult.

Mora I've purchased 6 or 8, some for me some for others. Price can't be beat, quality for the price is great. BUT I confess I like alot of higher quality knives with style, unusual, not everyday seen by all. BUT then again I think that the old military knifes for Army and Marines are very hard to beat if you want tough roughed knife that can be used for about anything you can think of. I'm not talking about copies of the knife, I'm talking real deal knives that have seen service in WWll, Korea, Vietnam, man thoughs are real knives and you should be very proud to carry one if you are lucky enough to find. I've got several and actually used and carried in Vietnam that my family carried in wwll and Korea. Collectors dream. Knives are my best collection of all things. I can't tell you how many I have at this time,, but many of them. Custom knives I have a few but they are to expensive really for what you get and then you hate to use them and hang on the wall,, big deal,, For me if I can't use it,, what the hell are they good for. I found out long ago that the old knives are the best ones. Much better than most made today,, quality is so much better. JUST because a knife has been owned by someone else doesn't mean it's shoot or no good for you. Buy a good used quality product and it will be there when you need it. Buy a new one for the same price and see what you get,, JUNK IN MOST CASES.

Love your perspective and totally agree! Mind if I use this idea for knives and other gear on my channel?? I have said the same thing to many other people but have never done a video on it, but you have inspired me and I don't want to seem like I'm stealing you idea. I want to be up front and ask first. Great channel dude!
