I’ve got a 1V and a 1N, absolutely love these cameras. They won’t win a beauty contest, but they do absolutely everything you could ever need without endless menus and complicated dials.

What always stunned me about the 3 is that they went from a few AF points in previous models to 45 here! Later, that disappeared unless you bought the last 1 model … that many AF points did not appear in better models until the 5Dmk3 a zillion years later. Love the ergonomics on the Elan II and 7. I almost quit Canon after suffering the Digital Rebel’s clunky box and newer layout.

Canon first introduced the eye control focus in the EOS 5 which came out in 1992. It may have been in others in-between the 5 and 3 but I'm not sure. Then in 2000 they put it in the EOS 30 (UK name) which was my film camera until I went digital. I have recently bought an EOS 5 to shoot some film so it's nice having the eye control focus back which I always missed in my DSLRs. Like you say, I was gobsmacked back in the 2000s when Canon did not put their eye control focus into their DLSRs.

Hey Tim! Thanks for making this video! I just received my Canon EOS 3, and I ran a roll of portra 400 through it with a 50mm 1.2/L. I'd seen that some folks said the 50 1.2 doesn't play well with this camera's autofocus? What has your experience been? Thanks for making this video!

The EOS 3 was one of the best cameras on the market back in the day. It sold for 1,200 -$999.99 on a good sale. The fact that you got it for $125.00 was an amazing steal. It was the most advance camera for a while back tjen.

Having started with a Canon AE-1, the EOS 3 was the last film camera I bought. I prolonged upgrading due to Canon changing the lens mount system rendering my FD fit lenses useless on the new camera. However, I am glad that I eventually made the change, as it means the EF lenses I am now using on my digital cameras all fit the EOS 3, which means I can still shoot film whenever the fancy takes me.

I see you are using the 50mm 1.2 with it. I also have that lens, and would love to upgrade to the eos 3, but I’ve heard bad things about back focus problems with the 50mm 1.2. Have you found any focus problems with this set up?

Nice video and photographs dude. Were all these images taken with 50mm 1.2 lens? Thanks :)

The EOS 3 was the most technologically advance 35mm slr ever made during that time period. Its a pro grade camera in many ways. EF lenes are some of the best money can buy especially the L series.

Hi Tim. Thanks for sharing this video. I'm close to deciding on an EOS 3 but I'd like to know if you can take studio portraits with it using an RF trigger to fire off camera flash. Any idea if this is possible ? Thanks !

This is a great camera. Only issue is the magnets in the shutter that can stick and cause a BC error. But that can be fixed with magnets.

Elan IIe and 7e both have eye auto focus too. I've gone through a couple of Elan IIe and am on my third. My favorite film cameras, but they do break. I've never had the EOS 3

Simple, EOS 500 and 40mm f2.8 STM. Small and lightweight combo.

You cannot use an RF mount lens on an ef body. The flange distance is closer to the sensor on the RF mount since there is no mirror to account for on mirrorless

My EOS3 was a lemon, backfocuses to such an extent it’s unusable, and you can’t get that fixed now because the software needs to run on such an old operating system… It’s a very big heavy manual focus camera now, but hey it still shoots. I bought a 1V as a replacement and it’s great.

The very last of the 300 series is incredible. In the US it was the Rebel T2.

I have looked at this camera and I don’t like the very loud clank sound of the shutter. I do shoot Nikon also and the F5 is my favourite camera. I have the EOS 1,1n, 1n RS, and of course the 1V..

Can you make a contents for eos3 settings as well? There are so many buttons and stuffs. Wonder whats the basic setting for daily snap shots and etc.. :)

Learn to use a camera in general, the PASM settings and learn the exposure triangle. Starting with a cheap DSLR will save you a lot of hassle and cost before you start messing up shots. But when in doubt, set it on P and let it do its thing.

People , don't be overhyped about this camera yet, due to its age, you will very likely experience board failure like I did to my two eos3....and their price went up like crazy which renders them not a feasible option. I would say ditch film camera completely especially due to the recent film price hike as well. I had sold my howtek D4000 drum scanner too for that matter
