I know that this wasn't included in the show, but jaimie used to have to listen to the mad King rape his wife when he was on the Kingsguard. He wanted to defend the queen but was told not to by the older kingsguard members. So I think that plays into his decision to stop them from raping Brienne as well. Great video, jaimie is such an interesting character.

Yeah I try not to let the books influence these videos, but I'm not always so sure D&D kept in mind that some viewers didn't read the books. So viewers lost context. I actually didn't think of this specifically with Brienne. That's a good point.

Exactly. And he was just a teen when he had to listen to mad king raping his wife and he couldn't do anything about it.

I think that jaime refusing milk of the poppy is so he stays conscious as he didn't want qyburn to take his arm

Love it. I really liked how they show the difference in such a natural way from season 1 to 3. You can only do this in an extended TV series. That's why I think it's the best medium for a book adaptation.

I love the music playing in the background during the video. It really makes me feel like I’m back in 2012-2013 when this came out. You should use this music for season 4 as well. Thanks DCharles.

I've never seen Jaime's refusal of Milk of the Poppy as an act of (foolish) bravery or demonstration of endurance, but in fact the contrary. Let me explain: Jaime is an honorable man that is presented with impossible scenarios that ultimately result in either disgrace or tragedy. Being unable to cope with the consecuences of the horrible decisions he is faced with, he makes a mockery of it all as a mechanism of defense, but while his conscious self may dismiss the ideas of honor and duty as stupid, dreams are the realms of true feelings. In the books Jaime is haunted by nightmares full of judgement for his actions (in the form of aerys targaryen's kingsguard) that convey this in ways the show cannot. I believe this scene is meant to show that while Jaime may seem carefree and confident, it's in moments of mental vulnerability such as the feverish bath with Brienne that all his inner confllict comes rushing out. I think Jaime is running away from his fears when he refuses the anesthetic because he views it as the least painful option. And rightfully so.

I only disagree due to the show never relying on ASOIAF for context to the viewers, otherwise I think you're leaning in the right direction.

Jaime was never the same after he lost his hand. I always wondered what would have happened had he never lost his hand, also why he didn’t take revenge on Locke for maiming him??
@10000spidersinatrenchcoat10 ай бұрын
In the books The Mountain captured Vargo, the equivalent of Locke, and removed his hands and feet and when Jaime was told basically was like “yeah spare me the details “

I've always figured the scene with Jaime and qyburn and him refusing to take the milk of the poppy is that Jaime doesn't trust him. He doesn't want to lose the rest of his arm and he also is clearly at the disadvantage by being held by roose Bolton. We also know that milk of the poppy makes you not experience pain but it also drugs you and makes you unaware of your surroundings. I see Jaime refusing the medicine because he would rather be in pain that at someone else's mercy and wake up worse than he is now

I really liked Jaime I just wish they didn't go agaisnt his entire arc in the end and see him go back to Cerseri. He started off as one of the most stuck up and worse characters but by the end we see his side when he killed the Targaryen king, we see his view in things, and yeah he might have been a prick and screwed his sister but hey, who hasn't? He was a broken man and the show did him dirty at the end. But I still like him overall, even though he screws his sister, I can look over that.

I was always curious why Jaime wanted to escape from Brienne when she's taking him back to Cersei.
@maryjanedodo5 ай бұрын
I think it's because she didn't kill the guy who recognised him (& then went on to tell the bloody mummer's where he was) - she showed poor judgement by being more honorable than sensible & he probably decided he wasn't safe with her.

@maryjanedodo5 ай бұрын
He was never a nobody - he's always been close to the centre of everyone in power despite being the most isolated also, he's probably the wisest character, he just doesn't have much power or agency to do anything for various reasons & is an incredibly jaded & flippant pawn until he loses his hand & gets close to Brienne.
@plisskenetic Жыл бұрын
0:38 - I'll be the judge of that depending on whether you really do understand his character in season 8 coz SO MANY claim they do when in fact they DONT, hence they hate what he does in season 8. These are all fake fans as far as I'm concerned as season 8 did his character RIGHT.
