2:52 I can tell you that as fantastic as Angelo's is with their Cooper Sharp cheese on their cheesesteak, they were not the ones who started that. I've been using Cooper Sharp on my cheesesteak for over 30 years whenever I made some in my kitchen. Because it melts with an ooey gooey melt, and the flavor hits every time. Whenever I went to a corner store to get a cheesesteak, I always asked for that cheese on it because it tasted even better in a commercial kitchen.

I’ll die on the hill that Angelo’s is the best/my favorite, and Cafe Carmela’s is in my top 5, but you gotta check out Del Rossi’s with their new in house bread. Not quite Angelo’s but damn close nowadays!

Carmela’s is a great stop. Great food. If you are in the NE again check out Macaroni’s. It’s right from the old country and a throwback you’ll really like it.

There was NEVER a time when you could only get a good cheesesteak in So Philly. Many corner stores and delis in all parts of the city were good 50 years ago. Places like Chat ‘n Chew and Mary’s in West Philly, Overbrook Pizza, etc were great 50 years ago. Try the Pizza steak at Overbrook Pizza. The other places are long gone.

Does that explain why Pat’s and Geno’s still do good business, or is it just that a lot of people in this country think the worst crap is good because they’ve never had good…it’s marketing. Pat’s has been stealthily promoted my entire life, as far back as Howard Cosell promoting them in the 70s. No, Pat’s was never much more than edible.

Unless you poll every single person who has ever eaten or drank at a particular place, the results only apply to those that have voted. Otherwise , it is just a talking point to get people arguing. If 8,000 out of 10,000 vote yes, then what about those who didn’t vote? It’s only the best of those that voted. Doesn’t make it the best among everyone. What you like is what you like.
