In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov will be sharing with you how you can win the majority of your games when you are playing Black. This happens after the White’s first move 1.e4, which is the most-commonly played opening move.
The opening variation I’m showing in this video happens in the Two Knights Defense, which happens after the following moves: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6. And when your opponent tries to attack you with 4.Ng5, you can set a really tricky trap by playing 4…Nxe4, which is called the Ponziani-Steinitz Gambit.
It may seem like you are just giving away the game, because White can grab your knight with 5.Nxe4, or play 5.Nxf7 delivering a fork, or take the f7-pawn with their bishop giving a check to your king.
BUT, White loses in almost all of the lines when they play the most natural moves in this trap. Most of your opponents are probably unaware of this trap and this gives you a great edge over them!

My question is, in the Bxf7+ line, after the king moves, what do you do if white plays D4 first? and take the knight on the following move, resulting in a similar position as you showed in the video, but white has an added pawn in the center?

Best variation is Bxf7+ Ke7 d4 h6 Nxe4 Kxf7 d5 Nd4 0-0 Kg8 f4 d6 Nbc3 Qe8 fxe5 dxe5 Be3 Nf5 but no one will play that.(Unless they study the opening, which is how I know) Also side note, after Bxf7+ Ke7 d4, Nxg5 looks tempting but loses to Bxg5+ Kxf7 Bxd8. this has to be the most interesting / practical opening trap video i've ever seen. These are really wow lines...and I think many people playing the Italian as white would have serious problems with this if they haven't seen it before. I usually play Caro but against lower rated players (who are statistically more likely to play Italian (rather than Ruy Lopez) I might try this out. It definitely looks like a lot of fun.

Thats funny, somebody just played this against me in blitz and i easily won, even though i didnt know the theory beforehand. I was able to spot that after 1.e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5 Nxe4 5. Bxf7+ Ke7 you dont take the Knight here. I didnt play the best Move which is 6.d4, but still i played 6.d3 (with the idea that black cannot play knight takes knight on g5, he would lose his queen after Bxg5) and got a completely dominating and easy to play position. 6.d4 is even better for white and completely winning, with the engine giving you a solid +3 advantage after the very much forcing sequence 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5 Nxe4 5. Bxf7+ Ke7 6. d4 h6 7. Nxe4 Kxf7 8. d5 Nd4 9. c3 Nb5. So you will probably be able to get some cheap wins with this, just be aware that this Line is completely losing for black if white plays the correct moves, and it probably wont work against opponents rated above i would guess maybe 1700 in blitz on lichess (im rated 1820 atm). Questionable to leave out the clear refutation in an analysis video like this, if you ask me.

@@dajimejebote I would say there are good and bad traps. In my opinion this is a bad trap because white only has to remember two correct moves and is completely winning. This is totally different in the Stafford, Traxler, Kings Gambit and so many other risky lines.

This is the silliest opening I've ever seen someone teach :) 8:26 - No, white will not take the knight unless he/she's rated under 1000. White will play d4 and continue with a major advantage. The white knight on g5 is now protected by the bishop, and if black takes on g5, loses the queen. DO NOT play this insane opening unless you're up against a 1000 (or less) in a blitz game!

Nice and interesting weapon against the Two knights/Fried Liver. Seems to be much easier than the Traxler. I guess I will study it and try in out in bullet. Thanks for sharing!

very good video! ive been using it myself a little but i ran into a problem after bxf7 , ke7 . you say he has to play bxe4 but Ive check it with my father and the engine and if d3 or expecially d4 is being played you are just loosing as black. I know this might be hard to spot for people, expeccially in lower elo and lower time formats but it is a flaw with this opening.

love this! I play e4 as white but go for the vienna. a lot of the black ideas here are similar to the white side of a vienna with a move behind, but much of the time that doesnt matter too much because the right moves are very hard to find for white. The beauty of all this lark is that many of white's mistakes are natural moves that will actually get played. Possibly unwise against alpha zero, though :)
