0:40 Letting butter sit out at room temperature is one way to soften butter, but not the only way. You can also microwave it for 1-2 minutes on the lowest setting, or you can squeeze it in your hands to soften it (leaving it in the wrapper to do so ofc).

IDK about evrryone else but for years I have added my chopped chocs into the flour mixture first, give them one or two round of mixing, then only add that into the wet mixture. Easier to mix the chocs more evenly and less doogh mixing invloved altogether in the end.

On the podcast regarding this recipe, I think I heard Tara say that her favorite riff on this is an oatmeal version… Did I hear that correctly? Can you give the specifics of that riff?

Hmmm weird, I have never used soften butter for cookies. I am so used to using grated butter for making biscuts that I grated the butter for cookies. I use the cold eggs too.

I have to say, I am always surprised when people crack eggs over the bowl with ingredients. Clearly they* have never dealt with pieces of shell or the horror of a bad egg! *looking at you, Kristin But I'll definitely try this recipe.

Same! Factory eggs are scanned, those sold at the farm gate are not. 'Old school' cookery lessons - wash hands, clean aprons, hair tied back and eggs cracked separately- ALL ignored on TV food programmes. Time to get back to basics.

Could I chill the dough balls for longer than 5 minutes ?
@wailinglee13352 жыл бұрын
Think you'll need to bake them longer as they'll not spread so much.

I was excited to come across this video. I clicked the recipe link. When I saw it called for 3 and 1/4 cups flour, I was skeptical. As a long time baker, that much flour to 1 cup butter is going to dilute the lovely butter and vanilla flavours. It's a pass for me. I do however appreciate Food52 sharing the recipe. Thank-you.

I made this recipe, I actually had to add 1/4 cup more flour. The butter being melted and adding the sugar to it dissolves the sugar, giving you a much thinner batter.. I didn't want my cookies to spread completely flat so I added flour.. I'm sure weighing the flour would avoid the over under.. but I assure you it came out delicious. Not my favorite recipe, but easy and quick. I prefer brown butter chocolate chip.

@Paolito01182 жыл бұрын
Good recipe but you're not using cold fridge butter in the dough. You're using melted butter.
@Paolito01182 жыл бұрын
@Kattrap but that's my point . You're not using it right away. You have to melt the butter. The way they framed it they kept on saying were using cold fridge butter so I expected them to put the butter straight into the bowl. So even though you're skipping the step of letting the butter soften, you're just replacing it with melting the butter. And you're not using cold fridge butter for the recipe. You're using melted butter.

How can you call them the internet's best when they have a 3.8 star rating with 571 reviews. That's one of the lowest on the internet. This video is a fail. Any video saying "the internet's best" or "viral recipe" I know is one to avoid. So cringy.

sorry Kristin this is this was not a good cookie. it tasted store bought. luckily i fixed it by letting it sit for 24 hrs in the fridge and then mixing in chopped pecans, oats and more dark chocolate. Now it is the best cookie 🎉

To me this recipe uses way too much flour. It would dilute the lovely flavours of butter and vanilla. I probably won't make them just for this reason alone. Any recipe that calls for more than 2 or 2 and1/4 cups flour to 1 cup butter is not my cup of tea...lol... Pun intended.
@rassoronmore8931 Жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I’m the opposite. I do really like these cookies. My only problem is that they begin turning hard by the next day but one could solve that by not baking the entire batch at once.

I agree; nothing new or exciting, just a couple of tweaks. And I still prefer chips to melted pools of chocolate in my cookies.
