If there's a channel on YT where being pedantic is not only acceptable but likely to be expected is one called "Forensic(s) Detailing Channel" [Note: the 's' is a silent one. It is not written but is often used in verbal situations!] Thanks for the huge effort you put into these monster product comparisons, Jon, I absolutely love them.

@@notwhu817 I use it in a weak ratio (like 50:1) if my car is particularly bad with salt/grime in the winter season, and so far I have not noticed anything of concern. I used it originally to clean my mountain bikes, after trail centre riding, where they got absolutely filthy, and it was very good at that, although one thing I did notice, was anodised metal (coloured anodised alloy parts, like chainrings, brakes, etc) started to fade back to silver after several applications.
@DjNikGnashers
@DjNikGnashers 5 ай бұрын
@@notwhu817 Yes, the only issue with it, is on anodised metal parts. I used it on my mountain bike for years, and found that over time, it would fade the anodised colouring on anodised metal parts. I don't have any of these on my car, and have not noticed any adverse effects on any parts of the paint, plastics, or bare alloy wheels.

Thanks Jon, great comparison. I've not used a citrus cleaner before, but I'll probably get some in for the bugs 'n' wheels! Well worth being pedantic on the instructions, if your not familiar with a product it's easy to make some assumptions and end up with streaking, damage a coating or just have a poor finish.

Great test👍 As a scandinavian I'm used to (oily) traffic film on my car during the wintermonths. Wintertime is generally very wet (either from rain or salted roads). That's probably why we're used to use solvent-based degreasers together with snowfoams. I use both Autofoam and Touchless as prewash-foam, but when the car is covered in roadfilm I usually start with a solvent based degreaser on the lower/dirtiests parts. I think it would be great if you did a video that showed the difference between an alkaline soap and a solvent based degreaser. I think there's quite a bit of confusion there.🙂
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing Жыл бұрын
again I think if you use a solvent based degrease it needs to be formulated to be used to clean dirty panels off the car or else it might not mix with water and resist rinsing. so one with emulsfier a bit like tardis, is handy so you can rinse it off. But in the UK we really dont tend to use hydrocarbon degreasers during the wash phase, although theres a couple of niche products around that Ive heard people use.

Jon, anyone thinking you are too critical on product instructions can take it from me, you are not. I wrote and reviewed instructions for nuclear reactors for over 35 years. They had to be precise or someone would get them wrong. No such thing as common sense. If you write " add one 500ml bottle of chemical xyz to the sump", there will be some idiot that will throw in the bottle and then argue you should have said " add the contents of one bottle...." . Keep up the good work Jon.

This is not required with auto foam or touchless. When you used any other chem you inhibit the ability for auto foam or touchless to do their job and they are formulated to remove road film. theres a lot of variable to explore there mate. Concentration, dwell time, what sealant or wax it is. Put this on neat to an old school oil and solvent wax and it will prolly remove most of it. I'm really struggling to find KKD Citrus in stock anywhere, especially in the larger volumes. I had a really hard time with baked on algae and dark grey contaminates (not sure if this is off colour algae or what) despite using touchless at a decent % and a K10 with a high quality nozzle, the contact wash with auto-foam wasn't touching it much afterwards either. I hope that I can lance this over the care before foaming to finally get an effective first rinse.

ok so D-limonene is an organic solvent. Some APC contain caustic stuff. But APC is such a broad term you have to look at the instructions of each product and this is why I really delve into this. Your looking for a fabric safe APC thats suitable for use in extraction systems. I think from memory Koch and Sonax products made that claim. Lots of detailing brands dont cover all the basis in terms of how you can use the products, but the germans tend to get this right.

💡👏 44:07 Jon, good effort 👏, but sadly wrong final methodology 😞 have you, by any chance, consulted the tall fella, from the magazine, how to approach conclusion of this test? 🤔 🤔i don't think it's good to combine all the categories into single, final score. why? because it's 'horses for courses'. with that much competing offerings on market, consumer will make own compromised decision based on requirements. some will care less for potency but will decide by price. others will want to get the most effective stuff, regardless of purchase price (realising user pays also with time/stress/effort).🤔
@OraEtLabora0
@OraEtLabora0 Жыл бұрын
🤓also price score should not be related to pro rata product's volume, but "per wash" (decide on fixed number for sprays from same one trigger [i.e. Tolko's 4ml Blaster or Gold...]) and calculate how much of product is used with the given ratio(s). all related to their purchase price. yes, tone of work! that would warrant SPREADSHEET, since most of these products have range of dilutions. 🤓

they use a discount model which is popular and works. But you have to know your market average prices and you have to understand concentration. So some of the products in this test are effective at around 1-2% pir. Some are not. Their product can be used at 10% pir (1 to 10) so in theory the high concentrates could be 10 times stronger. That being said they currently selling 5 litres of citrus wash for 14 quid, which i think is a really good price for any citrus. So only way to know is to give it a bash mate, it might not be the best on the market but if its good strong price then could be worth a punt.

I suppose if versatility is important to the end user I can see why it would win. Just my own thoughts, enjoyed the comparison video Jon & Citrus Magic winning is a fair result. It's not the best but it's up there for exterior cleaning, just a shame the owner is a cockwomble & can't handle criticism. I like some of the KKD products but I will never purchase from him directly after his actions in the past 🐍.

real world can be hard to gauge though B because nothing is ever the same, KKD didnt rank first in any of the cleaning tests so in theory you are right. I think without price considerations, the stjarna was like superb, could understand lots would like that if price isnt an issue. the shiny garage, the stjarna, the wax planet might have a tiny bit more poke at recomended uses but then they might loose marks in value with stjarna, or like the shiny is really just a TFR citrus. So Im looking for an all rounder that has poke, but can be used for all the things a citrus could be used for but also at lower concentrations. but as always you could pick any of these. I used the angelwax on a car that got covered in a fur tree that was being shredded and the sap made the tree sawdust stick to the car and shampoo would not removed it. A good soak with the angelwax and it worked to break down the tiny bits of sap on the sawdust. So yer you could use any really.

@ForensicDetailing very true with regards to real world testing. Even testing on the same car, on the same day is always going to have slight variations due to the amount of dirt on different areas of the car so fully appreciate it's hard to test & compare. Only recently I've seen how big of an impact a protected car is compared to an unprotected one using the same product. It went from average performance to very good purely due to the protection on the paintwork. Was mind blowing how significant the difference was & I never imagined it would be as influential to the results. Nothing against the Citrus Magic product, I've used it in the past & found cleaning performance to be good for an exterior pre-wash. Not the best but more than good enough. Add to that the versatility & it's fairly clear why it won if that is part of the criteria. Jack of all trades, master of none but in these tests that isn't a bad thing at all. I would happily use it as an all purpose cleaner but like protection or polishing products, I prefer having 1 product that does something extremely well as opposed to decent results but can be used for various things. Just how I set up my range of products personally & that applies to cleaning products as well👍

@@BrianW1612 Hi Brian, I'm keen to hear more about the kkd episode if you will. Customer experience and the person behind the brand is one of the big criteria I want checked these days, if that's not there and the guy is nasty then I don't care how good the product is, I won't be supporting it with my hard earnt cash. But I would like to know so I'm aware when it comes time to look for another bottle of something. I have spoken to dodo Dom regarding forst X following this video and he gave me all the time to answer, explain and give advise on many things so I ended up purchasing a bottle of Forst X even though it is not value for money. It's a British brand with a pleasant owner so I'll buy and support them. Let me know what to be careful of re. Kkd though please. And just out of curiosity, for when this bottle is finished, what is your number 1 citrus as it sounds like it's something different to these test results. Cheers. 👍

Hi Jon I can’t find my original comment from when I 1st watched your video & we were discussing alternatives to KKD & I was leaning to wax planet. Since watching it again I’ve come to conclusion & this is based purely on my own needs of not wanting use a tar & glue remover separately I think Auto Finesse could be an a better alternative & all rounder. One of the main reasons is and this has tipped for me KKD & Wax Planet are not readily available I can’t seem to find it most of the big online retailers as I’m not going to order just one product I wait until I need to order a few items and just can’t find them on in2detailing etc and where it is showing out of stock the price has gone up considerably. Auto Finesse have a another product called Dynamite that you can dilute and I think that may have faired a bit better. Also auto Finesse is very readily available either directly from then and shipping is free or local like euro carparts. It is very frustrating that a product isn’t readily available and you having to wait around until it’s back in stock. I’ve recently had a friend wanting to get in 2 detailing and as one stop brand I have recommended him Auto Finesse as they are pretty decent and average across the board have some stand out exceptional products but mainly they are readily available and I believe thats where KKD & Wax Planet have been let down.

I’ve always have the mindset that the concentrated chemicals the user dilutes is a bit of a get out clause for the manufacturer. Meaning the user dilutes the chemicals for use hence user error. This is a perfect situation for the manufacturer in a sense that there’s no comeback for any damage the product causes. Similar situation with the product descriptions, directions and application. Very vague on some products. Containers would be better worded, “use at your own risk”. I don’t think that’s legal, could be wrong there mind. We as end users would be better off understanding the use of such products should we understand what chemicals are best used for what and what’s safe to use on which surfaces and at which dilution ratio. I should imagine most car lovers enjoy the brand loyalty, the scented variety of chemicals and the free sweets when developing their tennis elbows and carpal tunnel syndrome. Nevertheless Jon, nice video. I was here to cross reference the Valet Pro Citrus. Anyways, that’s my go for the day. Sorry that landed with you 🫣. Be interesting your thoughts on educating us on the individual chemicals more and not so much the product. Maybe we can then mix our own chemicals in just a similar way to you mixing your own waxes, once upon a time. ✌🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
