Good explanation, man. CONTRAST, ultimately, is the most important thing - the human eye has more receptors for contrast (light/dark) than color receptors. Contrast is also the last thing you can see before full darkness (as it becomes night, colors start to disappear) But complementary colors are already contrasting (purple / yellow.. Blue / orange) . And you can always take a slightly darker shade of the darker color, or a lighter shade of the lighter color to increase the contrast. I like your examples of the different color wheels - I honestly forget sometimes that not everyone knows about those :) . (Studied art, as well as design, and worked as a designer for 15 years - apparently I have a blind spot for what other people might not know :)) Oh, and a good thing to keep in mind: the color of the background you're painting on; If it's a light background like concrete, outline w/ the darker color. (And vice versa). That way it's always super legible Groetjes uit Amsterdam

The colours opposite each other in the wheel are CONTRASTING The ones on either side of a colour are COMPLIMENTARY The HOT and COLD thing is accurate but you are slightly confused with your colour combination terms and words but I mentioned it above for you.
