Doing a £50 budget but then still allowing proxies is so considerate and nice. Many people might not realize that even that can be too prohibitive to participate and as long as the decks following the same rules it really won’t make a difference except include disenfranchised and poorer people and players. Well done

I find very funny the idea that if this format becomes REALLY popular, cards that are really good in it will start to rise in price. and then not be as good cuz they're expensive now. It self-regulates. 😂

Can I suggest naming it “50CC”, like the engine size?

cEDH is - at least in europe - 100% proxy friendly. WotC not being part of the format for so long really helped the community with the developing of a healthy tournament scene.

I would LOVE for there to be an online event for this! My locals is only cEDH and is not proxy friendly. It would be an amazing way for me to get to play more in competitive pods without spending a fortune 🙏

One issue I see is card prices go up very often is the 50$ restriction just when you initially make the deck?
@CommanderBaumi2 күн бұрын
When I run the tournaments, we have a submission date. On that day, whenever somebody sends in their deck, I verify its price point and then lock it in for the tournament. Once a deck is locked in, it doesn't matter anymore if it fluctuates before tournament day. Long-term however-yes, the decks require regular maintenance. It's not unusual to see them fluctuate up and down a couple of €. However, I've not yet experienced massive fluctuations that invalidated any specific decks. Personally, I consider this a feature. I enjoy that my budget deck always requires a steady eye on it. My playgroup also allows a bit of leniency when preparing for tournaments, and then we cut down to the specific 50€ on submission day.

Love this take, and I love deep diving into strange synergies. Often you can find something that fits a particular mold as well or sometimes better in a specific strategy. Usually I build cheap as I can, too, and go bigger once I've played and find places where I know it can benefit. Also, I find the more i play a deck, the more I slowly bling it out. Even if it was a $15 build to start.

In the local stores here we had some CMD50 tournaments too, at first nobody though it would be possible due to the small price, but damn, not only the amount of decks variety was surprisingly big, many efficient decks i did to that small budget turned to be decks good enough to win many matches against more expensive decks Nobody believed me when i said the deck was just 50,00BRL until i showed the deck list

hey man youre awesome. Second veideo ive seen from you. The first video was the secret Norin naya EDH deck. Such a cool idea i told my friend who runs norin, and hes making that deck because i sent him your video. Then i watched this one. Noticed you talking about a fun Derevi deck, Which was the next deck i was working on. Subscribed in that moment. Youre very good, and extremely relatable and i think youre voicing opinions many of us have, but we arent seeing expressed well anywhere right now. Please capitalize on this and stick around. Great videos, keep it up.

That's so hilarious because DOTA rotted my brain the exact same way. I played a couple games after going to my LGS last night just to say hi to my CEDH friends, that I have little desire to play any games with. I'm on the same page, creativity is one of the funner parts of magic for me.

An option for your tournament popularity: Find an online forum and host sign ups online, having more than one a week. I don't get to play often enough for any competitive format. Budget formats feel exclusive because I can't use the strong cards I've accumulated over the years. I'm not a particularly skilled player (as a result of not being able to play but once a month at best), taking me some 50ish games to get my first 4 player pod win and I had to go full try hard to pull it off. 5 Tutors (most of the best ones) with a mono black drain deck using vito and gary reanimation. All that and I BARELY won.

The issue I see is that with how the second hand market goes, a $50 deck can suddenly become a $60+ or under $50.
@jmanwild872 күн бұрын
I think that's something of a feature. Per comments Tournaments have a deck submission date once submitted the price is locked in. And in a way the format self regulates. If the format is widespread enough good cards in it become worse or more niche by virtue of making deck space more tight
@eridevonta13842 күн бұрын
I think I will build your Derevi deck. I wish my playgroup are willing to play with budget. I found the play pattern more enjoyable. Do you have the Pantlaza deck list? It sounds like a deck that I will enjoy

I dont know if you read these but just got back into magic but everyone only plays commander now it is just isnt fun games take so long which is especially bad if you die early and then game stalls out is there a way to make commander feel more fast, fun and varied like draft

Ngl. That's why I have poison in my deck as a backup win con, even in a 7 Power Deck. Just to make sure that if everybody stalls, you make sure they hurry up in winning (or losing)

I really don't like the idea of having to type every card name into midfield and require using a computer to help me make a deck with a budget. I prefer a simpler method/challenge of a few decks that are strictly uncommons and/or commons. Much less of a reliance on checking with a computer. I know some would complain about both mana drain & force of will originally printed at uncommon but if people really want to complain about that than a ban list can be instituted if necessary.

So this isn't exactly a new idea and it runs into some problems with cards spiking in price sometimes for seemingly no reason. It's also just not the okay experience that a lot of people are looking for. One of the pulls is cEDH like any meta game is mastering your deck and letting that deck is consistent is part of that. I wouldn't call this an alternative to Cedh as much as it is just budget magic?
@Maker_of_mannersКүн бұрын
I am ok with proxies, but lgs' in town prohibit them and players with valuable collections dont want them played. I'm blessed to own a valuable collection and the barrier to enter cedh is lower. I think knowing local players and rule zero are what work best for me. This feels like pauper and I have realized I really only enjoy playing powerful cards and cards that I have a nostalgic connection to. The UB stuff isnt for me. CGI art isnt for me. Thankfully there is enough cool stuff for me to play independent of what wotc intends. I didnt stick with modern or pauper. I play legacy, c/edh, and I collect oldschool cards. I open to play with most anyone and I welcome proxies.

The format would eventually evolve towards a set of staples like cEDH. I believe the best way to bring variety to a competitive EDH game would be to use a point system like Canadian highlander. This way almost everycard can be played, but you have to choose which staple/tutor to use over others
@matheuscomparini16632 күн бұрын
In Brasil we have commander 500R$, wich its about the same as 50€ but the commander doesn't count towards the budget (bullshit imo)

I have a fledgling channel and discord community all focused on budget competitive commander (I agree, best way to play). What I truly want is for the sub format to get to the point where you can hop on spelltable and get a game whenever you’d like. I want to organize a tourney. But first maybe a teams event. I’d love to discuss the format with you. There ought to be some synergy between us that should be worth something. 🤷♂️ Namaste 🖖 kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZKmg36keJiYhZosi=KUFyL-3mt9i5qax9

I like the concept, my only complication is price fluctuations, especially if the format gains a wider popularity. Pauper, and other adjacent formats have a clear cut and immutable characteristic being that they have a specific rarity, i.e. they are common rarity in terms of Pauper. Price is something that changes either very slowly, or very quickly, especially when considering the sets that can drop and change everything: From your typical changes, like standard, to commander precon releases, to insane offenders like the modern horizons sets which are format warping in modern.. Lesser known cards can wind up having powerful synergies with these new releases and hike up the price dramatically. While this concern is a rare occurrence, that doesn't make it any less relevant. I think that this format is a tad too unstable to really gain traction. If one set release can screw over your deck budget and make your deck illegal, then we have a problem. Honestly I think a Canadian highlander points list would do wonders for a format like this instead of price.
