As far as fav Compressors: I like the Focusrite Red suite, JST Joel Wanasek Bus Glues, and Empirical Labs Arouser, and the stock Comps in Ableton lol...most fav VST??? Toss up between Overloud THU and Kazrog's Thermonik amps...pro tip: anyone looking to get a great IR curve of a poweramp ONLY should at the now discontinued Thermonik...great vid as always Mendel! \m/

Hi Mendel. I'm only one minute into the video and I already can answer your question. My favourite compressor is the Vintage Compressor from Cubase. It's a stock plug in but I just love it. Use it on almost everything. I have a whole bunch of compressors that came in with various software and hardware bundles but I always seem to gravitate towards the Vintage Compressor.

I totally forgot about that compressor making this video, that one is awesome.

It’s been a long time i’ve used the Rvox, will dig into it again!

Of course Rvox is really old school but I use it on every vocal track at the end of the chain. I can‘t get the right vocal sound without it ☺️

The API 2500 sounds incredible, might have to check that one out. For drums I tend to use the GGD Smash and Grab as it's so easy to dial, master bus wise, I'm loving the SSL Native Bus compressor. What are you using bass and drums wise? Sounds amazing.

Drums is Death & Darkness SDX, bass is check my bio for all the bass plugins i use.

I like the T Racks Classic Opto compressor on the master buss - its the one compressor i found that does upward compression and push into the red on a mix and sounds great - does anyone know a compressor like that
@Riffa222 жыл бұрын
I still experiment alot with compressors on drums... But, H-comp is pretty sick, especially for its Punch knob. My go to masterbus comp is the bx townhouse, it just sounds so nice.

Hey. A bit off topic. Any chance you could do a video (tutorial maybe? :D ) about Logical Editor in Cubase? I'm trying to work it out and use in my drums editing but it breaks my head a bit. :D

I had one problems with the Glue in two different projects - everything that went through it were rendered in only left channel, right just silent.

That’s odd! Sounds like a mono plugin on a stereo channel issue, but The Glue adjusts automatically.

Is there such a thing as too much compression? I’d argue it’s harder to have too little compression. I think most recordings aren’t well served by the amounts of compression commonly used but in this day of sample/replace every drum and set it for 127 does compression even matter. There’s nothing heavy about everything at the same volume.
@Mendelian3 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean, but you do need to hear everything clearly and poke trough the mix right?

please do compressors for punchy rhythm guitars
@Mendelian3 жыл бұрын
There’s no compressor for punch guitars, it’s in the hands and the rest of the tone chain :)! I only do a tad of multiband compression on the low mids (look where your palm mute peaks).

The cytomic Sound more Natural
@neuralfraud2 жыл бұрын
Drums do not sound like that. WTF is going on here? 1) Grid-arranged midi triggerd drums 2) each sample has been meticulously crafted and normalized so everything is exactly the same 3) the combination of each is then "compressed" - which what, you're really bringing up the noise floor and ambient sound to reduce the dynamic range so the ambience is more audible against the guitars, etc - thus the bigger sound. I mean you have 30ms attack! Metal is attitude and this is just meticulous perfection.
