(If using these alone) Or are you using a combination of these and the Amaran I want to get what is suitable for great lighting without having to test light configurations and pay so much. Do you have any problems with the dj lights already lighting the reception?

The DJ lights are almost never helpful in terms of key lighting, so unless they’re dead set on doing that, I’ll often be able to use these instead and let them to accent lighting instead.

Sort of depends on what you need, but adding diffusion can always help.
