Turn 8 at Istanbul is probably my favourite corner. There was something so satisfying about it on F1 C.E and 2011 when you took it flat out.
@azynkron9 жыл бұрын
Best corner? Not a chance. Eu Rouge on the Spa track. That's a mans corner.
@AleXcr869 жыл бұрын
Would have agreed with you ten years ago. But Eau Rouge has been diluted somewhat. Still spectacular to watch an F1 car there, but Becketts is something else - the cars are really on edge. That said, I haven't seen a car there in the turbo hybrid era - probably not as impressive any more.
@azynkron9 жыл бұрын
+AleXcr86 Agreed. The downforce has changed a lot of the track since the late 80's and taken all the thrill out of them. I remember when a F1 driver, don't remember who it was, said "I wish I could take Eu Rouge flat out..". Well, now they do.. and I agree it's not the same. Although it's subjective, the Spa track has always been my favourite. It's fast, it's technical and you can overtake on it. In Britain, my favourite it Brands Hatch. It's just something about that track and I don't get the same feeling when I watch races on Silverstone. Donington is really cool as well.

The way these cars corner is amazing. Imagine the shit going through these peoples heads. Ok, so i gotta make this gnarly turn going 160-180 mph in this extremely brittle and light supermachine that'll possibly cost both my life and my paycheck in tandem.
@Michaelingolfhansen16 жыл бұрын
Amazing...watching this really gives me second thoughts when talking about less downforce on the cars!!! This can only be happening because of extreme downforce...no mechanical grip can cover for this! High speed, means high downforce = extreme grip! And these are brilliant highspeed cornes! Love them! In hair pins they pull around 1.7-8 g's or so, but here its 5+! I belive 6+ was measured on "fumes" at Copse in practice! And I have no reason not to believe it!

Properly speaking, the Eau Rouge corner is only the left-hander at the bottom. The following right-hander that leads steeply uphill, which was introduced in 1939 to shortcut the original hairpin "Ancienne Douane", is called "Raidillon".

Hmm, don't think you'll find they're flat in the wet. But it's a tremendously fast corner nonetheless. I love the head-on view from the camera looking down the pit-straight, the change of direction into Copse is simply unbelievable.

Clicked on this link expecting to see Eau Rouge. The Maggots & Becketts complex is still awesome though. If you missed out on watching the incredible cornering speed of an F1 car at the Imola chicane in Magny Cours, make sure when they bring back that circuit that you do so.
@danthemanpatrick14 жыл бұрын
Eau Rouge/Radillion is awesome, and it certainly takes balls to go through there flat out at 190+ mph like they do these days. But I think that the Maggotts/Becketts complex takes more skill. To not only take the right line through the corner(s), but to also be on the alert for any under/oversteer that might be building as you have the tyres at the absolute limit of cohesion for the entire time you're going through the complex. Whereas with Eau Rouge/Radillion, you know you can take it flat-out.

@kidtwist5117 жыл бұрын
Also, Becketts doesn't even dump onto a long straight, so you don't even push it to the rumble strips on the exit. Knowing this, they don't even take the corner as fast as they could.

Without a doubt this is one of the greatest corners in the world - if you've never seen an F1 car go through it from maggots or chapel, or of course actually driven through it at real race speeds yourself, then you're negative comments are irrelevent - TV does not do it justice. It's also technically more challenging than the spectacular Eau Rouge or 130R, with extremely high speed direction changes that are challenging in either tin tops or single seaters. All three corners are awesome however!
@Michaelingolfhansen15 жыл бұрын
I had the same thought! The last 10 years it has been easy flat out! I still believe it will be flat out this year: The engines are limited to 18.000 RPM! So there's a drop in power that will set a limit of how much speed the cars can build up from the La-Source hairpin down to Eau-rouge! And combined with the slicks I think it will be flat, but maybe not as easy as previous years. With the small rear wing, we could se some nervous cars, and some slides!

Turn 8 at Istanbul is hardly a challenge when there's a mile of tarmac run off if you get it wrong. In modern F1 Pouhon at Spa is probably the best, and the Lesmo's at monza are pretty cool, as is Ascari chicane. Tabac and the first part of the Swimming Pool at Monaco are a sight to behold as well. Many of the once great corners aren't so good anymore with the smoother tarmac, larger run off areas etc.

Haven't raced Monza, Spa, or used the pits at the Ring (I'd guess the newer F! ones would be nice, I have no idea really, just went around the old North Loop). Haven't been to Donnington, but I honestly think they should have it at Brand's Hatch. That's a fun track. Although, I know it's too short and the locals complain and it's really just too small for F1 now, it's still awesome.

I would love to see an Indy Car do this... or not as I suspect. Not because i'm British but I do think this is THE best corner in F1, but I do admit Silverstone is not a glamorous track but It's one of the favorites with the Drivers along with Spa, and Spa being the best drivers track in F1 which makes it the best in the world.

Actually I've stood and watched Formula One cars at every one of those corners you've just mentioned. Eau Rouge is an awesome spectacle, but the cars don't move around anything like as much as they do in Becketts. If you want to watch from a corner that will tell you a lot about a driver's style and level of commitment, watch from Becketts.

You have to watch a car through Becketts with your own eyes before you can fully appreciate it. I've watched modern F1 cars through Becketts and through Eau Rouge, and while Eau Rouge is visually more jaw-dropping, I'm quite certain a car is never more on-the-limit than it is through Becketts (it was better in the V10 era; recently cars have had too little power, too much grip). I think in 2009 Becketts is really going to stake a claim to being one of the most challenging corners in F1 again.
@TonyVBlue512 жыл бұрын
I think one of the best is... One of those I've created on a sheet of paper, this is a long left corner first part in 5th gear (but first a right in 5th too), it's opening a bit but don't go to the exit because it's just a bit and it's closing a bit to for 6th gear and you exit like you exit of turn 7 in Spain or old 12 in Hungary. This corner is about 7 seconds What do you think about it?

@Dan7horn15 жыл бұрын
Apologies, I forgot about that particular aspect...However I still believe that with no real punishment for getting it wrong (ie. retirement or a severely compromised race) it cant be considered among the most challenging corners. I don't even think it's the most challenging of corners on the newer Tilke circuits (Turns 9 and 10 at Bahrain has that one for me).
@sinnae40415 жыл бұрын
A good sequence but it needs a hill, and perhaps a barrier a little closer to the track. Eau Rouge is great because of the elevation change, and the possibility of having a big accident. I don't think anyone has had a big single car crash at these corners, therefore it appears not be risky, therefore not as worthy of respect. I like that uphill left hander at Suzuka - maybe about Turn 7?
@rickodetrader15 жыл бұрын
Yes 2005 was the last year that 3 litre naturally aspirated V 10 engines were used. Today the cars run a 2.4 litre V 8. The V10's sounded better in my opinion, they have a better 'scream'.
