Digging: Badgers dig deep holes and mounds in search of food, which can damage crops, farm equipment, and water systems. Badger holes and tunnels can also damage building foundations, ruin lawns and gardens, and contribute to flooding. Predation: Badgers attack poultry, waterfowl, and eggs, and can injure pets.

But, why kill the Badger?? He dont hurt nothin!-- do they??🤔😬
@willhorting5317Ай бұрын
The holes that they dig causes damage to crops; can cause damage to equipment if accidentally driven over/into a hole; and if the hole is in a pasture, there's a real possibility of livestock stepping in it and breaking a leg.
@kims2rАй бұрын
@@willhorting5317it’s just one though… if you’re gonna kill every animal that digs holes on that surface of land… pretty sad. Don’t forget this land was nature first, pasture second… the yotes i understand, but if you spot one single badger I don’t think they should be considered pest, just enjoy the view
@willhorting5317Ай бұрын
@@kims2r , respectfully, I urge you to do a little research. It's quite easy to do. Here's some non disputable facts that can be easily researched: #1) In a year's time, ONE badger can dig several dozen holes. They normally dig 10-20 burrows PER ACRE of land. They abandon old burrows, and dig new ones frequently , depending on their needs and food supply. These underground networks of tunnels weaken the ground above them. Although it's normal for there to be only 1 entrance/exit hole per burrow, some badgers do dig multiple entrances/exits. And over time, older burrow systems have been found to have as many as 30 entrance/exit holes per burrow. American badgers have a lifespan of 5-10 years normally. So even if a single badger only digs, say...12 holes per year (which is at the extreme lowest number)...in say, one square mile (640 acres)...in 10 years, that's 120 holes in a very limited amount of land. #2) While it's normal for there to be only 1 badger per square mile, there can be as many as 5 badgers per square mile if the habitat and food supply is abundant enough. Yes, it's nature. And yes, there were badgers here long before white men moved across the North American continent. But that can be said of all wildlife natural to North America. By your logic, of how the farmers and ranchers shouldn't have taken over the land that the badger lives on... You, yourself, are also guilty of taking over and living on land that belongs to the wildlife. Are YOU willing to give up YOUR land, and give it back to only the wildlife that once lived there? I doubt it. Also, without those farmers and ranchers, you wouldn't have the food that you buy... regardless of where you buy it... and regardless of whether you are vegan or not. If you have bothered to read this entire explanatory comment, then you possibly feel like I have been rude to you. But that is not my intention. My intention is only to try to factually teach you about the reasons for killing that single badger. It's unfortunate that the majority of people don't know these things. Instead, they "think" with feelings instead of facts. I am not against badgers. Yes, like all wildlife, they have their own benefits for the environment of which they reside in. But as a retired farmer/cattleman, who's family has lived on and worked on the same acreages for nearly a century...I have seen firsthand, the destruction of the land that a single badger can create over it's lifespan. AND to be clear...In my decades of life, I have only killed ONE badger.
