Chris Perkins did a segment on the DMG for the upcoming OneDnD core rulebooks and talked about how the book was disorganized and needed to be revised. Out of the three core rulebooks, I'm most excited for the DMG the most due to how little 5e supports DMs as opposed to the players.

It definitely could be improved in many ways! It's a lot of great content, tucked between a lot of fluff.

One I would love to call out that feels obvious but is nice to have an official ruling on it: Skill Checks that use unlisted stats. Like Charisma Stealth checks, or Strength Intimidation. A lot of people talk about how you ‘should be able to use these stats’ and you’re right! It says so in the book you can!

I'm kinda split on that book. It holds some of the best material I've ever seen and at the same time a lot of crap. It's kinda like trimming the excess fat when preparing a steak: once you remove the stuff that is not of use, what's left is excellent. Excellent, just like your content, so keep up the good work, mate! :D

That's true - the first few chapters especially feel like absolute fluff 😅 For me, it's redeemed by the later chapters, but it could really be cut down.

To be honest, I love DMG and almost never using Monster Manual. Like in 85% of time I homebrew monsters. DMG help me mostly with world building and some tips with adventure/campaigning structure.
@TalesArcane8 ай бұрын
I think if you have that drive to homebrew, it's a great toolbox. So many systems and templates to build off.

I got the DMG first, not realising that of course, the rules on how to play would be in the PHB. Definitely have no regrets though!

Solutions I didn't know I needed for problems I didn't know I was grappling with. Thanks, Tales Arcane! Will be pointing folks your way.

I was the very first DM for my group. I read the entire DMG and found it incredibly useful to understand the style and pace of play and flavoring minor content, etc. Being a player for thr group now I can tell which other people in my group have or haven't read the book and its a bit dissapointing.

I never really rated the DMG but I can see why you found it valuable. I'll give the random tables a try and see what happens 😊
@TalesArcane8 ай бұрын
It's got some serious flaws, but the tables can make life so easy, I find. I'd love to see a slimmed down version with just the tables, and without all the superfluous padding.

Ive owned the DMG for probably 2 years, had no clue half of these tables and features existed

I think a lot of people are in the same boat! It starts pretty weak, but the later chapters and the appendices are excellent.

great video, thanks for highlighting this book. ive been using it recently and honestly it gets alot of fairly earned flak for not teaching how to DM for a new player but its an amazing toolbox for a seasoned DM

Genuinely such a life-saver sometimes - the NPC tables have come in clutch in so many of my games 😂

Gotta admit, I did buy the DMG mainly to satisfy my inner collector and completionist, but now I want to actually read through it :)

It's probably my favorite of the the core rulebooks, though I would absolutely recommend finding a free PDF online first, to see if you find it useful. Wizards of the Coast doesn't need any more of our money 😆 Thanks for watching!

@TalesArcane8 ай бұрын
Honestly, I'm the opposite way around 😂 I got the PHB to complete my collection of core books and I've barely opened it since. But it's a good one to have on game night, in case anyone needs to check up specific rules between turns.
