Just pointing out that more granular is nice, but it's also more straightforward to switch to a system that is similar. How about 3.5e? Or even Pathfinder which is based on that anyhow.

I like to imagine the Luminous Being residing in the Seventh Heaven of Mt. Celestia. He is an all-good, all-powerful, all-present, and all-knowing entity. One that exists outside of space and time. I do this because I take a Christian approach to DND cosmology.

In this scenario it seems your players made selfish apathetic characters. Wouldn’t they continue to profiteer off of any situation you think up and never engage the plot no matter what you do? It seems to me that the players were taking the Gm for granted and forgetting that a GM is playing and wants to have fun too. Your suggestion is a good one for open ended stories, improv options etc… but your actions in the example game are also a good tool to meet your players were they’re at and make a motivation for their unexpected character direction. If it were me, and even after I adapted my game for them they still felt unengaged with the story, I wouldn’t GM for that group anymore. Part of the collaboration of DnD is that your players give a crap about the adventure you’re making together.

For anyone else who struggle to retain without a list - here you go: 1. Call to adventure by the Quest Giver 2. Challenge that must be overcome to get to the main challenge 3. Larger combat or encounter that may be the main challenge 4.Twist! Something is revealed that the players didnt know before that recontextualizes what they thought they knew.

I disagree about the creation myth bit. Cosmogeny has always been a subject of interest to humans due to our extremely high intelligence and ability to understand the life cycle. If records of the dominant creation myth disappeared in some calamity, one or more new ones would begin to circulate pretty soon after. Of course, you don’t have to put much effort into it (just find the list of creation myths on Wikipedia and scroll until you see one you like), but it would be weird if there just wasn’t one

Came here after watching an AI video about multiple Real Housewives franchises in fantasy settings and I play with majority straight guys or gays that don’t know Housewives, shit started writing itself. Evil Wizard (Andy Cohen) gets a large coven of witches, splits them into groups to divide multiple realms (based on the franchise locations) but the groups begin to fight amongst themselves and it’s up to the hero’s going realm-by-realm fighting witches based on housewives 😂

For the multiple rolls thing, I usually use a system where i let a max of two people roll on any given check, or let one player roll at advantage. These are also only on checks where multiple people could be involved and the help action could come into play.
@sleet3732Ай бұрын
I like the idea of giving bonuses to persuasion and deception checks when speaking with people from a faction you have gained a reputation with. It could even go both ways if your not careful, piss off the wrong faction and you might find it more difficult to speak with them in the future. Though as a DM you might have already thought to just raise or lower the DC when speaking with people from certain factions but giving them a +1 or -1 depending on the faction their speaking to instead might make them want to try and raise their rep with that faction. Just a thought.

Thank you. This is a very helpful approach, as it supports a living world that can have multiple campaign arcs. When one campaign story is over, you're still free to start another one slowly, with world building already present to continue from.

1.20.45 dude I have to know what happened later. Did they somehow win? Is Maker still alive? Or is it an endless search and destroy mission or something? I watched it for more than 1 hour and I didn't get an ultimate *no pun intended* ending for the Maker himself.

I see you use inkarnate! I like the maps shown, I also noticed that you also use the grid to show elevation and passable terrain. For example in one of the city maps everything you could walk on is under the grid while all the roofs and obstacles are above it. You don't see that style very often.
@TalesArcaneАй бұрын
@@coffeedragonstudios Very well spotted! I find that it works well to drop the grid to the -5 layer (or close to it) both for aesthetic reasons and also so players can easily grasp what areas are accessible, as you said. If I want anything to appear under a -5 grid (rugs in a room, for example) I just flatten those objects into the ground texture.
@coffeedragonstudiosАй бұрын
@@TalesArcane Indeed! Most people can tell which squares they can go over anyway :) For caves I like to paint on the top layer and blur out the edges of the map. It uses up a LOT more ink when I print them though lol XD
