The DB franchise has probably the best preservation effort being put into it and NOTHING is due to Toei.

As someone trying to get their friend into dragon ball, it is really frustrating trying to find the best version of DBZ. Kai has great voice acting, but the animation redraws take me out of it way too hard. If I had the dragon balls it would be for a retelling of dragon ball from DB to buu saga with 2D animation like in the Super Hero flashback.

They found the audio and they now have fully upscaled episodes for ALL 3 og shows. And the broadcast audio was lost for like decades before it was found but some LEGENDARY Japanese madman recorded the entirety of all 3 shows on VHS and ripped them in the most pristine vhs audio quality possible, and he even KEPT them from deteriorating. This was all their first airings too… And not a single tape was warped in any way which is insane. That man is the REAL goat of DBZ preservation. Forget his username. Edit: It’s Kei17. If I could shake his fucking hand I would

@@dorkulusdaddum5577That's just not true lol it has some of the best animation of the series and the absolute highest lows direction wise. As Mark as explained before, Tv shows age in their colour as the original source yellows and dims over time. What Mark does is make it look as close to as it did when it airs, and does a damn good job at it. Yeah the Dragon Box has some pretty fucked colors and audio sync but it is nowhere near as bad as the 2007 orange bricks and everything else to come out after... minus the level sets which died thanks to incompetent timing.

Something I noticed with DBZ over time is that a lot of companies have worked to remove original dragon ball z from the internet. All I seem to find are edited versions of DBZ like kai or they only use the Japanese soundtracks instead of the American ones or they edit out blood or the filler episodes. It's weird because dragon ball is still everywhere, nothing is edited doesn't matter if you pick the Japanese or the American versions the only thing that's edited are maybe the sexual scenes like with bulma or launch.

Honestly the medium was conceived during a time where Blu ray didn't exist and everything was streamed on cathode rays (also we didn't call it "streamed" back then but "broadcast"). No matter how much I appreciate Mark and his team doing God's work in the modern day pursuit of ever greater quality, I'll never stop appreciating the old grainy and pale-ish colours of TV dragon ball and dragon ball Z. Reminds me of times as a kid. That was the authentic experience right there.
