The Best Deal in All of MTG (for EDH)

The biggest struggle in all of mtg is the price tag of the game. I dont understand why more EDH players dont take advantage of one of the best deals in all of mtg. That's gold bordered cards, I understand that they are not tournament legal but with a casual format like EDH this is the best way to get cards for 1/7th the original cost.
These cards let you play the most powerful cards without having to proxy and having real cards but at a fraction of the cost. I made a list of the best deals that I found out of all the gold bordered cards and since they are other copies of card we will never see and will worth more in the future! Tell me what you think!

Since you seem to enjoy budget content, would you consider doing something like “budget staple replacements?” For example, you look at an edh staple like Cyc rift, and then find $5 or less budget replacements in the same color, like River’s rebuke. So people can find similar effects but less $.

I really like that idea, thanks for that. Look for that coming up soon. I just like giving people alternative that way they dont need 50 plus dollar cards. So, I love this idea and might have to steal it, hahah

I got a Finkel deck when I was a kid for lulz, not knowing the difference. The grim monolith and metal worker are like $30/each. I keep one for my deck and have the others for trade XD $20 when I bought the whole deck lol

That's the cool part of these cards is they clearly have value. When people tell me these are just proxies, how can a proxy be worth 150 dollars. I think these are great replacements

Unfortunately LGS make the rules for commander. I personally play cEDH and I have been to stores where they have a strict no proxy rule and gold border cards are treated the same as proxies. Now I am not sure if that is a "hurr buy real card" mental or what but buying fold border is a huge risk.

The thing is wizards doesnt allow them in sanctioned event therefore stores can get into trouble doing so. Something I think that is really weird since they are all wizard products. The same material art everything, clearly these cards have actual value since people are paid up to 150 for these cards. I think they are a fine pick up because as long as the rl is not being reprinted these have more value

A disclaimer should be on this episode that gold colored is technically not legal in EDH. Though since it is a casual format I think most people will not mind. I have the '99 Jakub Slemr deck that I bought in 2000, so I have 3 Yawgmoth's Wills and 4 Wastelands :) I also have the Garfield Vs Finkle tin set, some good cards in that. The tin fits 6 boulders comfortably with enough extra room for 3 of the old paper boxes precons came in. I use those boxes to store tokens, counters, and dice.

I had the grim monolith but got rid of it. Im really think about getting another because of how good it was. It felt like a god card in mtg hahah
