Hi Sarah, about the subject of differential type: on rear-wheel drive vehicles, GENERALLY, if you rotate a wheel and the other wheel rotates the same direction, it’s a posi. If it rotates in the opposite direction, it’s an open differential.

Had that engine in an e-class for a few years. I really liked it. It is the engine they did the long range records in Larede at the early 2000's Where they broke the 50k km, 100k km and 100k miles records if i remember correct. (not just for Diesel cars, but for all cars above 2L Engines) They ran 3 e-classes that the FIA sealed from the factory (they took customer cars and these 3 customers got their cars a tiny bit later as they had to build them again to spec) almost full throttle for a month only stopping for driver changes, filling up the fuel, oil changes.

These Sprinters are in germany the most used Cars for delivery service like FedEx, etc. The drivers ran on the german autobahn (highway) like crazy, often with 160km/h or more. And of course they often have accidents... The V6 Turbo-Diesel is a typical "Taxi-Engine", wich runs over 500.000km. These engines like many kilometers. The Mercedes V-Klasse "Marco Polo-Edition" is a nice luxury and sporty Camper-Van. Greets from Germany near Spangdahlem Airbase. 😊

Sometime back in 2011 I drove a short wheelbase company Dodge Sprinter from the SF Bay Area to Chicago. It was an easy driving vehicle and did well the highways. Except there were a few times while at highway speeds all of a sudden it felt like someone threw out an anchor behind the van and power would drop to almost nothing. I couldn’t accelerate, it would just continue on at a slow speed. I would have to pull off the highway, power down and wait for a couple of minutes. It would then start right up like nothing was wrong and I could continue on. Never found out if this was a common Sprinter problem or what the problem was.

I was driving those when I was at University and had a job at a car rental station all the time. But it were the first two generations. Fiat Ducato (RAM ProMaster) and Iveco Dailys as well. They were going 100 - 105 mls per hour at the Autobahn but they always have been empty and we have some wind in northern Germany. Sometimes I was sweating blood but still beeing with the pedal to the metal. We used to call them 'Düsseldorfer' when I was a trainee at Mercedes-Benz 'cos they were build there.

@3:17 "Emissions Things" is an Eberspacher diesel-fired coolant heater, note the supply & return lines connecting to the cooling system. You can run that to pre-heat the engine & warm the cabin during cold weather, the unit also comes in a larger size if it's going to be tasked with heating the cargo area for a camper/adventure van. In my 2018 3500 4x4 Sprinter, that heater has an interlock so that it won't fire if the fuel tank is below 1/4 full. When engaged, the Eberspacher operates the HVAC blower on low speed, being that it's drawing from the battery at that point. When the heater is operating, you'll smell the telltale odor of diesel exhaust, which you don't smell from the DPF-scrubbed exhaust for the engine. What looks like a little drain there is really an exhaust pipe, about 3/4" diameter. The heater will also run simultaneously when the engine is running, though it will turn off when you shut off the ignition, it has a cool turbine-engine sound once its warmed up (which takes about a minute)
