This week brings us a brand new Doctor Who adventure in the form of "Rogue" from writers Kate Herron and Briony Redman. The episode features parties, weddings, bounty hunters, and a spot of murder on the dancefloor. What's not to get excited about?
The Doctor and Ruby land at a party in 1813 hosted by a mysterious Duchess. However, party guests are being murdered, and there's something very sinister afoot here. Can the Doctor and Ruby stop everything before it's too late?

I absolutely loved this episode! This season is going from banger to banger, really! Are there things I don't like in the episodes? Yes, obviously, but that's true of every single TV show, including all previous seasons of Doctor Who.

My thoughts too, he his just playing himself (no pun intended!!) and seems he is mostly wearing his own fashion too. He has no identity no trademark costume and is not coming across as the Doctor. And below comment says custom made for The Doctor? Nah there is no Doctor in any of them. I had such great hopes for Ncuti and RTD, now I want them gone and the sooner the better.

I had just finally watched the Scream of the Shalka last Monday. Perfect timing.

first i loved they picked jodi for the last doctor... but her entire run.. never showed an episode in which being a female, and how that interacted with reality... for the love of all that is holy... the doctor was in the dial for 4.5 billion years... repeating everyday... and afterwards was called out by the council as the oldest timelord...i can accept over all of those years... the outershell.. the body of the doctor can change.. even sex or color... but.. to go from getting married... to his love of the Tardis.. itself... to being a black male.... and even with the face of BO.. to just suddenly being gay??? And not doing any real.. story line? Do not get me wrong... I was so invested.. in there banter.. and connection.. and i loved they kissed.. but i am a lesbian.. BUT!!! If we are not addressing the struggles.. of facing these kinds of attractions.. if we are only portraying some magical bullshit... who are we serving? Def not those that follow DOC WHO!! AND>>> if we do not bring all of those "anti-gay" people along with understanding the real drama of being gay.. and making it real.. then we kill the DOC... and who wins?? If it kills the series.. the current and last DOC can say "i was the first female doc.. and he can say i was the first gay black doc" But for those of us watching.. who want to believe in heroes..we lose.. because they will shut it down!! Show the struggle of being black.. not like the "bubble"... show the real impact of a guy that gets on the knee at a posh event... show what that impact is on the doctor!!

i feel like that would be doing way too much for a show that is basically a travelling time lord and his everyday BS. just because the doctor is now black and queer does not mean all of a sudden that the show should become a melodramatic mess. The Doctor is more than what he looks like or who he’s attracted too

In 60 years of phone box travel I think only the Edge of Destruction had a less intricate storyline, and at least it did it with style.

I can remember when two men kissing was forbidden in film and not often seen in real life either. And yet straight couples are comfortable with this, even celebrated for it. Still remember how favorably the Obamas dance and kiss was celebrated. If Buttigieg had been the nominee instead of Biden... I suppose we could have seen two men celebrated for kissing in the Whitehouse, going on date night... and a kid or two in the Whitehouse, but younger this time. May yet see this.

@@NankitaBR Well, we have gone back near twenty years to the RTD lets make an alien by sticking an animal head on a human body. Ncuti Gatwa suffers from ‘Tom Baker Syndrome’ he can only act as a slight variation of himself. There is no spark in the Doctor/Rouge interactions and personally don’t like the Doctor having romantic/sexual relations with humans a creature at least 10 Million years ahead of us on the evolutionay scale wouldn’t have any interest in a less evolved lifeform. The plot was a thin remake of Human Nature combined with The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances with Faux Captain Jack.

Really awful. Zero plot and pointless love story. Worst episode ever. It was a massive cringe fest pushing an agenda no one wants. I’ve enjoyed all of the stories this series but that was dire. Aliens were a joke. This is what happens when RTD takes a day off from writing. Should be better next week.

I liked it too. Dot and Bubble was not good at all -- certainly neither plausible nor subtle, but this one gave us something to think about. The Doctor is lonely, needs a love life -- not sure I fully understood this up to this point. "I lost everyone," kind of says it all. Apparently, saving the worlds and hanging around with friends might not be enough. Big changes. Long overdue. Yes, it changes the story and creates a different focus, but let's be honest: the show needs change. As a straight man, I think it was kind of interesting to see a gay relationship or at least the potential start of one. Not too different from straight stuff but because both are men they kind of know each other a little bit already, sort of. Not sure how to explain it. LIke everyone else, I have known a few gay people -- the boss on my last job was gay I found out (after 3 years working together!) -- but seeing a bit of how this might work in practice is another thing. Not too scary, kind of sweet actually. Although I assume in real life that gay people, like straight people, probably don't propose marriage in the first hour, not even as a ruse. The bird people threatening the world with cosplaying them to death was kind of lame but then again a lot of the Who stories are often silly. Another stand-alone adventure too, which is smart, long story arcs are asking too much of viewers time. But the hint that love might return for the new Doctor and it might be in the form of the guy named "Rogue" -- what is his real name, we wonder, will he ever be trusted enough to learn our Doctor's real name? This allows a different kind of anticipation and longer story arc. Good idea. The Doctor should be happy, at least not as lonely. We owe him that much, lol.

The show used to be about how a hero masterfully (sometimes comically, sometimes thoughtfully, sometimes with deep feeling) saves the day. Now it's about the hero's identity as he goes from setting to setting. We can see he's black and we know he's gay. But it seems like that's pretty much all he is ... in a new place ... every week. Rogue even had to provide the means to defeat the bad guys.
