The titanium is a super low heat conductor. No mater how good is the insulated between the wall. The inner wall contacts with the outer wall ,which makes the heat loss faster than stainless steel.

Would like to see a follow up as to what is most efficient based on your consumption rate. My guess is that those with less thermal mass would be best for those who drink fast since they lose the least amount of heat initially and then the inverse would be true for slow drinkers.

The thermal mass only matters in the beginning and you can mitigate high thermal mass by preheating the mug. If you brew tea in the mug, then it's good not to lose too much heat in the beginning. From my usage, I like the Yeti because I put in cold almond milk and it drops the temp just enough for drinking and then it holds it at that temperature.

I got a knockoff of the yeti or rebrabed noone one. Anyhow, I can pour coffee in it.. got for a two hour walk, comeback and its still OK to drink. Im amazed how long it keeps the heat. Also noticed the ”dont pour boiling hot water in it”… it will burn you.. even an hour later

It happens too often where you put very hot liquid in and you don't realize it's so hot even after half an hour.

i think yeti does a super think copper wash coating on the inside which reduces the radieant movent of heat... the black body radiation mechanism for heat transfer, in addition to it being a vacume inside i think

Ooooh... that's really cool. I didn't think about using materials for lower radiant heat.

Titanium are never vacuum insulated like stainless steel is. THAT makes a difference. Also, you have more water in the yeti. More mass=more insulation=keeps heat longer. Not quite a fair test, though the vacuum insulated in theory WILL keep hot a bit longer.

Good point! At least you the lid is VERY important.

While your experiment is interesting, it doesn't address freshness. My own personal preference is to drink a coffee in a relatively short time. 20+ minutes for a coffee, especially if you add cream, tends to make the coffee stale/bitter. Perhaps 10 minutes would be a better comparison. Also, it's not valid to compare open mugs to ones with lids. It is is like apples to oranges and presents a skewed review in favor of the lidded ones.
