My feeling is this: There are times when there is nothing as boring in the entire history of mankind as a drum solo. This here is one of those times. With few exceptions like Buddy, Ian Paice and Danny Carey who are tremendous technicians and its amazing just to witness the motor coordination of these cats. esp for drummers. It's Jim Chapin's advanced techniques book come to life. I made it almost to page 3. I've been playing for almost sixty laps around the Sun and I can confidently say this guy is mostly self-taught which is fine but he never took it beyond singles and triplets with some crossover flash. Drums sound annoying and the story he's attempting to tell has no plot nor imagination. I mean the guy's Latin for cryin out loud. What's the problem? He stops like 5 times (wtf) for no reason other than to play the same stuff on different drums then just kinda peters out at the end. What else did you get for Christmas? Shit, at least blow something up. One bonus point: the girls down there seem to really know their business when it comes to screaming and that's always been music to my ears, just sayin...

And, he's got a zillion screaming fans eating it up and you don't!! Yes, a little chops heavy and less melodical and yes, he stole the revolving drumkit from Neil (who actually stole the idea from Carl Palmer from Carl's early 70s hybrid electronic/acoustic 360 degree revolving kit)...and everybody stole the HUGE kit idea from Hal Blaine who stole it from Sonny Greer, so nothing new here but still superbly executed and a boatload of fun! Rich, Carey, Paice, Lang etc, etc..Ringo and Watts as well, for sure. The list goes on. All communicating/expressing facets their individual personalities thru their instrument. Its where artists(musicians esp) go when muscle memory, limb independence aren't so much a concern. You can't really maintain a conversation until you can pronounce and understand a language. Diversity insures they'll always be an opening for future legends. To use my metaphor again, how boring it would be if we all thought and spoke alike? It's why I have an issue with all this 'who's the best' or 'who's your favorite'. None of it means anything but it would mean even less if there was nothing to compare with. So what are you waiting for, power off the computer and go woodshed.

Cant say I know alot but seen pretty much to figure it out. By the way, had the priviledge to see Neil live at my home town....unforgetable experience.

He has a few Hi-Hats in there, doesn't he? The big floor tom is in an odd place. Terry Bozzio did the standing on the drums thing a long time ago. This drummer has some chops. He's doing a lot of rolls and a bit of polymeter and polyrhythms. A few interesting fills. But, there isn't a lot outside of speed here. Not a lot of finesse or complexity here. Not certain how anyone could miss all the other great Jazz and Rock drummers that do this kind of stuff constantly (and arguably better), but glad someone digs this. Peace out.
