It's been a long time since I took a good look at entry level DSLR cameras, but since I've been getting a lot of questions as to which camera you should buy if you're new to photography, I thought I'd check out some of the new releases from different camera manufacturers.
In order to figure out what the "best" DSLR for beginners is, I asked my self the question, "what would I buy if I were just starting out?". This really helped me take a more practical view on the different cameras that I was looking at, and allowed me come up with a very honest recommendation at the end.
The camera that I ended up choosing in the Canon EOS Rebel SL2, also known as the Canon EOS 200D. This DSLR camera might be small in size, but it truly packs a punch, even compared to some cameras that cost quite a bit more.

More than that, I think that it's the combination of the features that it has that makes it an amazing choice for beginner photographer.

I shoot professionally and recently tried a friend's SL2. That little camera packs a punch. Nice choices in lenses. The 24mm ef-s pancake is a great choice also.

I was beginner when I got eos 30d(half year ago), I know theory (about aperture, shutter speed iso etc), but didn't have practice, but now, I think, the better choice for my next camera will be used eos 5d (2005). I don't have much money, I don't need video, full frame is better than aps-c and I am ready that I won't have any modern features like wifi, nfc etc

What if video shooting is not as important to me as it is for a KZbinr or vlogger. I'm ok to have average video mode as long as it is full hd. What would be the best entry-level camera for photos then?

Vinod Kumar I still think the Canon 200D / SL2 is a great camera for photography! The only potential drawback is the 9 autofocus points, but I really think that the dual pixel AF in love view makes up for it. It opens up the possibility of quick capturing without having to use the optical view finder.

Dave Crissinger Great choice as well! I guess I'm just a bit biased because of my experience with Canon. I still prefer the ability to use an EVF, the longer battery life, flip out screen etc. I'll be trying out some Sony cameras in the following months.
