I wish I'd seen your video before I purchased, but I bought from Amazon the Battool 6000mah that was on sale for $55. It came with a free replacement filter. I've done analysis and just went with Amazon feedback. My oem battery lasted about 2 years. This unit I swapped in seems to be far better than the Dyson unit for me. Plus "free" filter! I'm super happy with it. When it comes time to swap for our other V10, I'll check your channel!

Liked and subscribed. Greetings. Your Tenhutt link now shows a '4 amp' (claimed) but the reviews are spotty. Any chance you can see if it is still the same quality 21700 cells or did they go cheap over time? Thanks again for these tests.
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums Жыл бұрын
I will have a new V10 battery video coming out, likely over mid-summer. However, I can say that generally Tenhutt has been pretty decent at picking good cells. The spotty reviews are really probably more due to bad batteries stemming from charging issues. The best way to avoid that is to wait 30 minutes after using the vacuum to charge it. Then only leave the vacuum charging until it is full, then unplug it. This will help protect it and give it the best chance of working over the long term.

Great video thank you so much. One question though, I've seen a lot of the older model Dysons have aftermarket battery adapters that allow you to run power tool batteries like DeWalt and Milwaukee. I haven't found an adapter for the v11 though. Do you know if they are available for the v11?

@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums Жыл бұрын
They aren't, unfortunately. The 18V batteries are already downvolting the motors on the V6-V8. Anything from the V10 on uses 25+ volts and won't run on the tool batteries. The PCB just thinks it is a dead battery. Hope that helps!

@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums Жыл бұрын
I personally haven't cut up the 5.0Ah battery, so I couldn't venture a guess as to what is in there. I will say, the two TenHutt batteries I have open have both used decent cells. That being said, almost all of these batteries have incorrect Ah ratings, so you may not see much real-world difference between the two.

Hi Matt , Thanks for this very useful video! But the only first great problem with all these (too) powerful cleaners is that only one range of cells for so many output/amps is not enough . Specially if used with max power, which kills quickly the good cells...and very quickly the chinese cells. All discharge amps are at the limit , and Lithium hates strong discharges, even with good cells if often used and first of all during a long time. Changing 18650 for 21700 is a poor solution. The best would be to propose also batteries with minimum 2 ranges of cells in // : much longer worktime and first of all much longer lifetime.( like for power drills batteries)...but commercially totally uninteresting...James Dyson is a clever man .
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums Жыл бұрын
I agree that having two series banks of cells run in parallel would be the best solution. I have serious doubts about whether or not any vac manufacture will ever be bothered to do that since they are notoriously cheap. But one can dream!
@Michel-Artois
@Michel-Artois Жыл бұрын
@@HouseOfVacuums If you consider the full discharge of the battery ..in 5, maxi 10mn with max power, it's a real pain for the cells, even for very good cells , even more so if you try this with an already half-discharged pack. So it's not a dream , it's technically an obligation , ...but commercially an aberration.

Question -- Why do the Dyson OEM batteries fail so quickly? I'm told never to keep the vacum plugged in --- so don't keep it in the charging wall unit hanger. right?
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums Жыл бұрын
Honestly, it is hard to say what the variable is. Some folks leave them on the charger and that causes the BMS controller to fail. They also fall pretty often since they can't be locked upright, and that could damage the cathode, anode, separator or tab of a cell. Also there are 6 or 7 individual battery cells in each pack, which gives you 6 or 7 times more opportunity for a cell failure. I will say this. Vacuum companies in general don't take battery management systems or robust construction seriously. I have 8 Milwaukee power tool batteries that are going on 7 years old now without a hitch. Industries like power tools have proven that you can build a robust consumer battery pack, but that costs money. And vacuum companies are notorious for cutting corners for either profit or price advantage. It's unfortunate, but consumers will continue to buy Dysons over and over again with batteries that fail. Tradespeople are less forgiving when they rely on a tool to make a living. I'm rambling, but there are a LOT of reasons battery powered vacuums less reliable. Thanks for the comment!
@Michel-Artois
@Michel-Artois Жыл бұрын
Possible ...if the charger itself is unplugged for any reason. Normally if you let a battery connected to a charger which is not itself connected to main current , you have an upside down operation : the charger will slowly discharge the battery for its own use. If too low voltage, the BMS stops the discharge...and voltage goes a little higher again. Well, the BMS allows a new discharge and stops again with too low voltage...and so one...But at the end if the voltage falls with too empty batterie (a BMS is not perfect and a very low milliamps discharge control is difficult) , then the Dyson BMS "locks" definitively with red light. So never let any device connected to an unplugged charger during a long time . Voltage discharge is very low, but permanent....like in your car with only a little lamp switched on : if the car is not used , after some days the battery (although with 70Ah) is empty. You can test it easily with a Drill battery : Charge it full and test the voltage. Then let it connected to the unplugged charger and re-test the voltage after simply a week : voltage is much lower. For Dyson devices , the best is : not install the jack in the rack , and charge separately . So you disconnect the charger from the device every time after full charge.

Question - is it possible to make an external battery pack with a much larger capacity - say true 10,000 mah and just run a wire to the Dyson head? That would do three things: Greatly increase battery run time, increase battery life as it is running on lower percentage of max discharge capacity, and reduced the weight of the vacuum unit itself. If no, what's the rason it cannot be done? Thanks.
@HouseOfVacuums
@HouseOfVacuums Жыл бұрын
Sure, technically it could absolutely work. I guess my question is, where would you put the pack? I'd be hesitant to home-brew a battery pack and then strap it to myself with a backpack or something similar... just my own personal preference. Let me know if you try it!

Great video. I have a V8 and watched that vid and this V10 vid too, and it seems the 21700 cell is an important determining factor in deciding which battery to buy. So, how can I know whether the replacement battery has the 21700 without tearing the thing apart?

It is touch to know about the 21700 without tearing them apart. You could try contacting the sellers and asking which form factor it uses. Many of them will be willing to respond. Could they lie? Yes. But it is certainly better than nothing.

After digging a bit into these nonsense chinese batteries I decided to just buy some Molicell P28A off NKON and exchange the cells on the stock battery myself. They come with a small 200mAh capacity adder and same 35A discharge current, as compared to the P26A. Disclaimer for the kids: Don't try this at home ;-) Nice video though!
