A word of CAUTION: I had a Hamilton Beach safety can opener roughly 4 - 6 years ago and had I not been observant, I could have died or been seriously injured. Now let me first say that I'm not 100% sure what model I had at the time, so if this is newer than 4 yrs old then it couldn't be the same one. Anyway... I used it to open 2 cans of baked beans and took notice to these super thin metal strands hanging off both cans and then noticed smaller strands inside my beans. Needless to say I tossed the beans and got a refund on the opener and have always been scared to try using these types of openers.

46 seconds is long? I'd happily take that, especially as those 46 seconds are hands free and you can complete other kitchen tasks in the meanwhile! The winner, on the other hand, requires both hands, which in a sense wastes a lot of time and opportunity.

Or as Lisa said from the get-go "you have issues with hand strength". 🤨 You seem fun. A lot of great food comes in cans - vegetables, beans, fruits, fish - got any pets? Opening up a can of tomatoes is not the equivalent of scarfing down a Big Mac. An electric or battery operated can opener may not be for everyone, but that doesn't justify looking down your nose at those who might want one and especially at those who need one. 🤦‍♂

Another example of the downhill slide in kitchen appliances. I am 74 years old. My mother had a GE electric can opener purchased in 1950. It worked on all types of cans, never tipped over, etc. Had a magnet to catch the cut-off lid so it didn't fall into the contents of the opened can. Never broke. Easy and safe for me and my sister to use as children. Eventually, the machine found its way to our family summer house, where it is still functioning perfectly!

I love my Tornado F4. Similar in style to the Kitchen Mama but smaller. Have had it for 4 years and it's never let me down. For those of us with limited counter space, lacking places to plug things in, or limited dexterity, the units like the Tornado F4 are heaven sent. Best thing about the "slowness" of them? You can multitask! You click it on, hit the button and do something else. This really comes into play when making things that require lots of cans - like chili with beans. I can open all my cans, hands-free, while simultaneously browning my hamburger or minced chuck.

My favorite is the rechargeable walk and go can opener. I have tried many of the battery operated can openers because I am a stroke survivor who has lost the use of one arm so I can no longer get the standard electric can openers to work for me because I don't have a second hand to hold the can up while I operate the handle. The battery operated ones work great for about the first pair of batteries but once that initial pair of batteries gave out and I changed the batteries, the can opener always seemed to poop out. Like I said I tried multiple different brands in different price points and it didn't matter whether I spent $10 or $30. They just weren't worth it! The rechargeable walk and go can opener has been my go-to and my saving grace. I cannot operate a manual can opener because of my disabilities.

I had trouble opening up cans with a manual can opener because of arthritis. I don't know how many brands of manual openers I bought in the previous 10 years. My husband finally bought me the ATK winner, the Hamilton Beach electric can opener about 3 years ago. I love that it cuts the lid from the side which is added safety and I recommend it. I still gloat over, it to myself, because I struggled for so long. The only problem I could see was if the electricity ever went out, I would have a problem. So I found a manual can open that also cuts from the side, as a backup. It has a large turning knob on top, though that too is somewhat harder for me to use, but it is better than nothing if the electricity goes out.

Bought the Hamilton Beach based on this. HUGE MISTAKE. Worked on maybe two cans. Cento tomatoes? Nope. Tomato paste? Absolutely not. Tuna? Not a chance. A can of beans, sure. But not even stewed tomatoes. Time and time again I find your reviews a bit sketchy but figured it was personal preference. After this? I no longer trust you. Same with your recipes to be honest. A lot of them haven't been good for years as well. I no longer buy print nor subscribe to the site but this is the last to go. When you can't even recommend a good electric can opener? Interesting. I bought one about 3 years ago and it works great. Granted I only open about 3 cans a week, but it works on Cento tomatoes just fine. @@sandrah7512 I hear you, but again, there are products not reviewed that were shown. They should have been handled differently, that’s all I’m saying; seeing a product reviewed is not the same as reading a review on that same product. I’m not passionate about this in any way to continue speaking on this. Good day to you.
