Best part of this video for me wasn't just a potentially useful shortlist of ducts to try out but getting to hear someone just freely call stuff "shithouse" and use phrases like "rough as guts" and "dunny paper". For an Aussie living in the USA it's always nice to just hear other Aussies be Aussies :)

The Satsana design ducts the air to the nozzle and the print directly below it, so if it was to blow the piece of paper then I would say it has failed at what it is designed to do, as that would be wasting the cooling by blowing it where it is not needed.
@joescalon541
@joescalon541 2 жыл бұрын
My single 40/10 blower satsana does 70+ degree overhangs no issue. But ya it’s designed to blow directly at the nozzle. No issues other than cheap fans that die after 100 hours or so :(

@DavidHodgesKU11 2 жыл бұрын
I had to scroll way too far down in the comments to find this... obviously the directional ducts aren't going to move the paper like one where it was blowing directly on it. Getting cooling from multiple directions is more beneficial than one strong fan from one side in my opinion.
@Twin_Flyer
@Twin_Flyer Жыл бұрын
Was going to say exactly the same thing. The fans do not blow in the direction of the paper. Much better test when installed over a hot end over water to see where its actually blowing, IMO.

thanks a lot for your comparison and troubleshooting on the 2 fan models, i recently changed my ender 3v2 to a dual 4010 side fans and a 20x40 front fan and started having the same termal shootdown, now to prototype again or just never use too much fan since is better and more silent than the stock one

Thanks, I was looking at E3v2 options and found the $2 BRISS and liked the look of it - then I found your video, you have convinced me to try it. Your 'dunny roll' test is much the same as the bowl of water test that others mention except turned through 90 degrees. Maybe if you ever repeat the tests you could find a source of smoke or vapour so we can see what is going on, I suspect that some of the designs are just cancelling out the the opportunity to move air away by blowing directly at each other from both sides. I wonder what a BRISS design would be like with an adapter on top to utilise two blower fans? Anyway thanks again, interesting video.

I am very happy to finally have a video on this, thank you so much. most I had found only talk about the most Popular on Thingiverse and are kinda dated and not the most clear. side note, I apologies if you referenced this already as I may have missed it, but the cfm of the hotend fan is something important to note. RPM and the CFM are part of the reason Creality uses the fan it does. On top of that is the reason why swapping in *certain* Noctua or other random 24v fans could cause issues with a stock hotend. but I'm not versed enough on the scale of 30mm fans and the cooling capacities available and pricing in bulk. but price and commonality might be another factor why creality sticks to the same basic 24v fan. among other reasons and speculations I'm just happy to finally have a good video on cooler designs, you are a god send thank you.

I've been using Briss fang V4 for 1.5 year now and I really like it. The only problem is that I print a lot with higher temperatures (240-260C) and even when printed the fang in ASA the tips of air nozzles are still getting a bit melted over time. Also, I'm using the version with LEDs for hotend lit and they don't last too long (couple of months at most), likely due to high temperature (even though I'm running them at a small current of below 10mA). Right now I have a V5 printed out in CF Nylon, this one should be much more heat resistant, so I hope the air nozzles will not be melting. Also - you need to remember to glue-in this extra piece for these (I see it's not present on your prints). It's not relevant for cooling test like the one you're doing here, but if you install them without this piece it can cause some problems with clogging (you will loose some cooling of the hot end heatsink and will have some unwanted cooling of the heat block).

I think the small bowl of water is a better test right under the nozzle on the bed where it would be printing. You can see where the air is focused. It seems you have printed a fair share of the designs out there. The Hero Me Gen5-7 work really well with a dual 5015 blower style at 50% or less power. The purpose of 2 is so you can have less noise and get great results.

The part cooling fans should be of the high pressure variety, which have broad flatter blades than the high velocity fans. I use them for electronic system radiators which the fins slow down the airflow and don't perform as well as with standard fans.

I am not backing up the Satsana in any means at all but I’ve been using one for 2 months now and they have a focal point that your setup can’t really show, a smoke test would be better in my option. Your set up with the Satsana is showing all air blowing out from underneath the part which is why you have to shove the ducts into the little paper strip, the focal point is at the nozzle and no other airflow is really wondering away from the nozzle.

I think you are overhyping the Briss fang. I currently use it and it has worst cooling on overhangs than the stock cooler. The axial fans are no match for the blower stlye fans once the ducts are close to the bed where the static pressure is increased. i improved the fang by printing little flaps that redirects the air more towards the nozzle which improved cooling and overhangs.

How does a single 5015 petsfang fit on the list? I use it and works very well, good upgrade over stock.

That’s what I thought for a while, until I printed the BrissMoto 4.3 a few days ago

I’ve never understood why people who design these things so often feel the need to redesign the entire hotend area and not just make some ducts that attach to the fan mount, or just more simplistic and direct stuff. Most of the time all it’s doing is adding weight and size for no good reason. Doesn’t even look good.

20:33 no no no this is horrible... for all the reasons that you explain just after. For the cold end cooling, i think you're better off slowing down the fan rpm and installing a baffle that would prevent air from leaking from the cold end chamber into the hot end area, than trying to restrict the fan airflow. Maybe a little narrowing in the vague direction of the heatsink is OK, just a little.

Thank you for the great video. Could you send me the files for the Print at minute 24:02 . The one you uploaded on thinkiverse looks different with two holes on the top. And also: Could you recommend the fans you would use with it? The Briss cooler looks not as nice, but still seems to be your favorite? :) Have a nice day, regards!

Cheers tyvm , I like the BF cause it blows a lot of air :) Regardless of static etc... air is air and the design of the BF allows a single low static pressure fan to blow air. It's a smart design that's easy to print looks good and work relatively well. If You need air better directed you can add FPVEngineering's stick on flaps. The one @24:02 i have modded was not finished .

@@Defyant123 Got the Briss cooler that you recommended. What fans do you use for it? I could go with the buck converter 12v fans or the 24v fans. Since you said it does not need high rpm for part cooling, it needs to be a speed controllable one for 24v right? MF40202V2-1000U-A99
