I'd give Dual Spec for Wrath. At the time it didn't impact me too much, but as someone who's mained non-DPS for most of my time in WoW having the option to swap to DPS whenever I'm doing solo stuff has been huge. And while the current system of swapping to any spec you want is even better, this was the first mention and deserves a shoutout.

One thing worth mentioning about Exile's Reach is that it is much more tuned for people who have never played a video game before in their lives. It covers basic camera controls, movement, and "turn around to hit an enemy behind you". I've been running experiments on family & friends in the 60-70+ age range (none of whom have ever played any sort of game) and had them doing various games under supervision. They don't even have WASD down, and any sort of movement of their character seems to completely throw their spatial awareness out the window. Exile's Reach let them ease into the concept of navigating a 3D world, where it otherwise would've been totally overwhelming. So yes, it's babyish and dull to anyone with really any degree of experience with games at all - but that's not what it's for. Veterans are going to blast through the tutorial no matter what anyway - but for an 11 year old? For a 70 year old? Pretty good.
@VValkyr
@VValkyr Ай бұрын
I guess exiles reach just suffered from the issue of presentation. If you were presented by a choice at the very start, which clearly made it known that exiles reach is made for absolute new players, but if you know somewhat what youre doing and wish to experience your races story, pick your races starting zone. That wasn't the case, and now correct me if I am wrong, but new players didn't even have a choice between exiles reach and starting zone the first time they played and leveled up a character. It might be a good thing for absolute newcomers, but for people that played any other game in their life, and had somewhat of an understanding what to do and what is happening, exiles reach really left a bad taste in their mouth, bored them, and alienated them from the game.
@Biffbifflin
@Biffbifflin Ай бұрын
@@VValkyr I think Exile's Reach offers a versatile, if not generic starting point narratively going into each expansion. The crew that you work with are the same people that you team up with in Follower Dungeons, which is neat. They also made an appearance in Dragonflight on the Waking Shores, so the experience does introduce you to their characters and you get to see them again. I do not think Exile's Reach is bad for the game. If I were a new player to this WoW franchise but had experience with other MMOs, sure, I would find it easy, but it would give me a neat microcosmic experience of WoW story & gameplay that immediately gets me right into the game.

I think Shadowlands best feature was actually the Tier Set Katalyst, because it fixed so many problems with tier sets and their transmogs in one go. First you finally could get tier set pieces from other sources then the raids with Mythic+. And you were able to even change items with no setbonus attached to tier sets, wich made it possible that every set has for every difficulty every gear slot available for transmogg, wich wasnt even the case up until legion. Also, sometimes the non set bonus items had better stats for your class. Also, awakend raids was a Shadowlands feature tho they were called fated

As a wow player mainly attracted by lore, world building and collectibles, legion's artifact weapons have been a disaster for me. Hated the fact i was stuck with a dagger while my favorite weapon is the staff (demo lock here eh...). I hated even more the fact that every player had iconic lore-related weapons. All paladins with ashbringer, all shamans with doomhammer. It looked so stupid to me, like watching lord of the ring but everyone in it has an Anduril or a "the one ring". It bothers me especially because it helped blizzard's storytellers to kill off all their storylines, by destroying the weapons to stop some unseen magic in the sword of Sargeras... seeing Thrall without the doomhammer breaks my fucking heart. Plus legion was the expansion with the worst "champion desease" case. I didn't want to be the Netherlord. The chief of all warlocks? Me? Why? And why is everyone the chief of all warlocks? So fucking stupid. And everyone was so divided too, everyone was closed in their order hall, instanced away from bigger hubs. Legion was really fun in terms of gameplay, but the story around your character was a deal breaker to me.

This. I remember towards the end of was it Burning crusade where everyone was in full Epic gear in Stormwind and it just looked so bad. the problem whit a lot of the Tier set is that they are so over the top paladin I can buy the rest not so much the rouge gear does not look like something someone sneaks around in, the hunter gear does not look like something a wilderness person would use and so on. warrior so over the top. I had at that point done zero Raid so I had some basic stuff and Letherworker gear from some guildie. but one of my sort of favorite bits in vanilla was the numbers Blizzard themself published. that only (of active account, one one char per account counted, any account that had at most a level 20 char was ignored). whit all of them less then was it 50% of all accounts had a max level char towards end of vanilla. less then 10% had done a endgame raid and only 5% had cleared them. and that was for any raid not the final raid. for the final raid less then 1% had entered it and gotten to the first boss.

Shared reps, letting you easily get extra crests and a some epics off the vendors. Warband bank letting you deposit gold into it that any character can access as well as any item you want to easily move from character to character. Since rep is shared, you can easily do everything on one character for the rep and just do your 4 weeklies for your delve keys if you even care about delves. On top of that you can now loot warband items from dungeons/raids/outdoor content that can be used on alts on any character. And the biggest feature in my opinion as someone that likes transmog, everything you loot just gets added to your appearance tab.

The best feature of Shadowlands was that it came out during covid. I had a blast in 9.0 and 9.2. It had a lot of really high quality content and it was fun. Torghast was a total pain and the game had horrible alt-friendliness. Hell it was even alt-SPEC unfriendly which sucked. But despite covenant abilities and soul binds having a very janky and annoying implementation. At the end of the day I still had fun. The zones were really cool. The vibe of the expansion was unlike anything we ever had seen in wow. And I think that's why a lot of players hated it. But as a long time fan of the game I appreciated them trying out something really different. I think the game needs it every once in a while and especially after an xpac like BFA which was painfully generic. Shadowlands was also what I consider to be the beginning of the current era of Warcraft. SL added a lot of the modern structures to the game like renown and the great vault. Strengthening the concept of the "3 pillars" of endgame. The scandals and exodus of players to games like FF14 triggered a switch internally that we began to see in the later half of the xpac. Blizz finally decided to remove their bias's that came from the OG game designers of WOW. Basically they started listening to the community. Ex: embrace flying, improve alt friendliness, focus on evergreen content, improve story, improved solo content, less time gating, more respecting of players time, etc, etc. It's BECAUSE of the failings of shadowlands that dragonflight and TWW are seeing the major successes we see today. Despite all of wows failings I've always personally felt that the game has moved forward for the better. I always felt like blizz learned from their mistakes. However now more than ever it feels like they have made a BIG change unlike something we've seen before. For example, in MoP they really cared about improving their patch cadence, and we got a lot of content, but when WoD came along, it all fell apart. Often times in the games history it feels like they would take 2 steps forward only to take 2 steps backward the next expansion. But right now it feels like they've only been taking steps forward. And it's amazing to experience. 20 years into the games history and I think they _finally_ figured it out.

There was nothing new about mythic raiding. They took heroic, renamed it and set the fixed number of players to 20, a middle ground between 25 and 10. During SoO mythic was still called heroic until the pre patch. Normal mode became the currrnt heroic, flex mode the new normal mode. I'd also argue WoD's worst feature was the leveling rework. Was always able to recruit a friend to level through content in mop. With WoD onwards this completely stopped, friends quit during leveling. It got even worse since the addition of Exiles Reach.

For BfA I would pinpoint the "two sides of the coin" narrative (I don't mean "the story itself"). One thing I really liked about BfA was not only that both Alliance and Horde had their separate campaign, it was also the same story just told from different POV. Like in one Alliance mission you fly with Falstad to attack Horde fleet in the middle of an ocean. There is not much to it alone, but if you played as a Horde, you were doing a mission at the bottom of the ocean and when you emerged back, you were confused, because your fleet was mostly devastated after an attack. This approach motivated to play both factions just to get the full picture. Since Shadowlands, there is only one storyline for both factions again. As for Allied Races... I think they are not that great in the end. An interesting idea that basically became an excuse for developers to do bare minimum by reusing old races instead of creating new ones. Allied races in BfA were good, because there was a bunch of them. In TWW however, there is only one... ONLY ONE reskin... and they made it into one of the major expansion features!

4:18 I was a hunter main in BC/Wrath/Cata... in Wrath I was considered one of the top 3 pug raiders on my server (Feathermoon, character named Doomt) with budget gear I could EASILY out DPS guild geared rogues (considered the best at the time) though I didn't have "sets" my stats were optimized and consolidated. My pride and joy was my Death's Verdict from 25 man normal (TOGC) I won on a lucky roll in Wrath that literally trivialized my cool down usage (activate damage CDs anytime and DV will cintuple numbers [I literally put CDs in Kill Command macro just to not worry about them anymore]) Was pulling consistent 4-5k dps during Litch King live, cleared on 25 normal and almost secured 10 man heroic LK kill as a pug. Alied races is a weird pick. No, races themself are cool and all that, but this is just new races. We already had that in TBC. With no reputation grind or extra questing we could make blood elves and draeneys. Why couldn't we made Zandalari trolls in BFA without grinding rep? "because they didn't join the Horde at the start of the expansion, there's a story". Same with older new races, but - again - we could made characters of that races as soon as expansion went live. Ofc I talk about actual BFA times, when we needed to farm max rep first, then do questline. Now it is just questlines available at lvl 40. Except Drachtyr, you can make it with fresh new account. And except earthen - you need to finish TWW storyline first. Brown orcs are new allied race with no daemon blood in them. Red draenei are... Just new skin colours for old draenei. But draenei infused with Light - new race. Some dwarf clans are just customize options. Except for Black iron - new race. All i want to say - inconsistency in annoying.

As much as the healer changes were nice in Cata I think transmog is way more important, it’s a fan favorite option and it also influenced a lot of other mmos to do the same thing. As for legion I would say mythic plus was the thing. It’s had a big effect on the community of keeps a lot of players still playing to this day. I know personally I went from a hardcore raider to a hardcore mythic plus player because it’s more entertaining and easier to get into since you don’t have to worry as much about scheduling everything. I loved flying when it came out in TBC and in Wrath but long term Flying was a big negative for the game. before you could see player around the world, the quest that was find this ancient temple in the jungle whent from an actuall trip even if you know where it was on the map. good luck navigating there like there was player that offered to be guides because the temple was hidden (time to do quest if you did not die by dino, falling of the cliff, navigate so badly you ended up somewhere else, 15-30 min or so and people loved that quest. flying comes out grab the quest. jump on the fly mount fly 150 feet straight up, fly in a straight line for 1 min fly down, complete quest quest done in less then 2 min. story lost mystic lost the quest lost its purpuse. same whit when in Wrath when they removed Mana from hunter, Hunter whent from 3 stats down to 1-2 stats. Before hunter had/used, int, agility and maybe stamina. then the wrath patch came and it was agility more or less stamina was sort of also useless or worse. before 3 hunters all marksmen more or less the same spec options. one focused on int one focused on agi and one on stamina. que a hunter that could fight for a week but can´t kill anything fast. one that can one shot about everything in about 10 sec but if its alive after that well the hunter was dead as it was out of mana and had no health. and then the tanker hunter whit its massive stamina pool. post there was only the agility hunter left. same whit Blizzard Push for get to max level and get into the raid. it just made crafter more or less useless for the most part why take the time to level up crafting skill when you out level it (even if you try not) and then get better drop and rewards from quest all over the place, hit max level and it still bad.

WoD: Blackrock Foundry, top 3 best raid for me (oh and the removal of hit/experise from the game). I have to slightly disagree with the original vanilla leveling but more so due to knowing there were segments of the grind where you had very little to do due to the xp requirements and lack of content that resulted in straight killing. Some zones not even having enough quests to get more than a few bubbles worth of xp and you might find a recommendation guide just lead you to an area with access to a vendor and you just grind mobs.

The best feature of vanilla is that it doesn't feel like it has "features". It's a world that you live in. "Features" are what you got when they removed the requirement to feed your pet as a hunter. I think Chromie Time is kind of a mixed bag. For people who are brand new to WoW and are interested in the story, it's still a wild mishmash that makes absolutely no sense - AND you can't even use Chromie Time for your first character. As of now, you're forced to do Exile's Reach, and then forced directly into Dragonflight. With friends who have come to try out Dragonflight and were coming from GW2 and FF14, none of them stuck around because their story was nonsense. SyncWeaver did a pretty good video about the new player experience a couple years ago, approached as someone invested in story-driven MMOs.

Not picking m+ for legion is a wild take. Its literally the most popular activity in wow and has been for a long time. It singlehandedly keeps the game alive between raid tiers and is the only ever-scaling content in the game. Not sure how something is entirely arbitrary and boils down to am extra talent and some cosmetics beats the most popular game mode in wow.

I feel like allied races could have just been new customization options for the already existing races. Sure the new racials are interesting, but they could have just added them for the existing ones and make them richer. You can almost make a blood elf look like a void elf. Where are high elves for the alliance? You can almost make a draenei look like a light-forged one. Whereas they just did a new skin and eye color for eredar and one for dark rangers... To me it doesn't make sense

I love how everyone sh*ts on shadowlands but here we are 2 expansions later and some classes have covenant abilities as part of their core rotations because they were so loved. Not sure why SL gets a bad rep. Covenants were fun nice touch and castle nath was some of the best raiding we have had in a long time. Oh not to mention the creation catalyst, and awakened raids.

Legit, weirdo purists will cry about it but LFD/LFR did so much for getting people into raiding. It's unequivocally one of the best design decisions in MMO history and there's a reason why the other big endgame focused MMO (FFXIV) also places such a high emphasis on it.

Odd list IMO: The act of levelling in classic was very boring and uninspired, especially compared with nowadays technology. I’d say for classic, the best things are the community, world and the sense of progression especially with gearing. TBC: Easily the bet feature was quest hubs. WotLK: Class gameplay and feel. Everything felt more complete. Cata: Nothing, everything was reductive. MoP: Nothing springs to mind WoD: If done correctly then garrisons. As they weren’t, nothing. Legion: Mythic + BFA: Reductive Shadowlands: Reductive DF: Dragon Riding WW: Delves

@@karolfortuna8522 lol do u actually belive players buy tokens to sell for gold? 95% of all purchased gold is made trough illegal means such as bots/stolen accounts sold on 3rd party websites. Blizzard doesnt make alot of money trough the tokens, its just a way of them getting some gold out of the economy and for veteran players to get a cheaper sub. Also the sub hasn't increased but all the expansion prices are up almost 100% for the base version then u can add in the deluxe editions which are now around 100 dollars , TBC had a price of 34.99 and TWW deluxe was 89.99 which is an increase of 55 bucks which is 250% more. wow has increased in cost to play by atleast 50% per year assuming each expansion is every 2 years. You just get alot more "content" for your money now due to classic (which only generates free money for blizzard as its costs very little to develop)

Artifact grinding was endless and killed not only alts, but even off-speccing. I disliked the entire expansion anyway. Legendary drop system was bad until you could just buy them, at which point they didn't feel important, just passives that made your class op and more fun to play. All the titanforging randomized bs compounded this. There was no designated pvp gear or stat. Want to pvp? Go run mythics first, a lot of them. Order Halls? I got a sewer instead of Ravenholdt. As a rogue pvper, Legion was ass. AP grind, titanforging and the order hall chest, farming legendaries, no pvp gear. Everything was a slot-machine. Contrary to a lot of other classes, I got no awesome order hall tied with incredible campaigns and noteworthy weapons (the hall was ok, the campaign was great, but comparing it to DKs, Warriors, Paladins...), I found no redeeming qualities. Mind, I totally understand and respect it when people say they loved the xpac, I'm happy people did. I however think it's totally valid to genuinely dislike it for objective reasons.

For me, the best was account bound mounts for Cata as it makes mount collection just a tad easier, less archiac. Though I completely missed out on legion, I gave up one Draenor because wow it was tedius to pick up 2 quests and hike to the object for close to 10 minutes each and every time, hiking back and forth to do quests in the same area. Oh and going into battle for azeroth to die to an enemy that farted on me, my equipment was outdated, even the quest equipment rewards were absolutely worthless because it felt like I wasn't getting new gear. Maybe my fault for not spending 20 hours getting gear in dungeons. Chromie, what was chromie used for exactly? I used it and I was like "huh, nothing seemed to have change, like the equipment stat reduction is shit, enemies still killed me with a wet fart and all ground mounts I collected are worthless because I am already flying 20 hours from playing.
