@GabrielVargaOfficial Wasn’t it Gina Carano who had to spend months correcting her posture when she started doing movies lol? She had such hunched shoulders, bent back & tucked neck that the producers said “you look too masculine, let’s give you posture training” lol ! Those producers would be Cancelled nowadays haha 😂

About the shoulders, I don't just hunch them in, I roll them forward when getting my guard up. I have found out that this not only protects the chin but also distributes the load of arms+gloves from the upper trapezius (which would carry it in the correct upright posture) to other back muscles which means you don't tire as quickly. And tucking the chin is a must for experienced fighters, but most beginners will have their punches go low if they tuck it before learning how to throw. So first learn how to accurately throw and then tuck. And thanks for another great video and for validation that doing what I felt was good was actually good.

I do the same thing I think of it like a turtle shell, makes it easier to generate power (for me at least) since your back and core are more engaged

interesting, I was wondering why my cross has a tendency to go low. I'll work on the body mechanics to fix that.

Who else could be more qualified through tons of fighting experience to say they wait a minute its ok to go against traditional ways! But a traditional 10th degree with no fight experience will argue otherwise. You're the man Gabriel! Thanks for sharing.

What a unique and fantastic vid on an overlooked trait in fights /combat sport. I never considered posture as much as my focus on stance and hand/arm position. This is something I have to retrain myself as well, coming from a bodybuilding/PT background. In that realm we focus on opening the chest, bringing back the shoulders, contracting the back muscles, etc. in order to avoid rounded posture for those who sit down all day. My clients who are drivers, office workers, etc deal with this on the daily.

Gabriel, love your content! Had a question, recently saw content from marvin cook on his 'true boxer stance' aimed at an mma/kb audience. Was curious if you have any references to current fighters who have adapted that stance for the ring (kickboxing, or mma). As someone starting off in kickboxing who comes from TKD with a more bladed stance, the true boxer stance felt more comfortable than the standard square-ish stance with dutch guard. However, I don't want to fool myself if it is not something that can be built on long term.
@mball56489 ай бұрын
Good question. I've seen that video as well and that stance doesn't work at least in MMA due to kicks and feel you need to be more mobile
@smallcheddar30129 ай бұрын
It’s more effective in boxing (look at someone like lomachenko), unless you have a sean Strickland, mcgregor esque more bladed style, but as the above comment says it makes it harder to throw kicks, but depends on ur style, you could probably make more use of it when closing distance if you’re more of a boxer but if ur tkd and the kicks are ur bread and butter it might be as effective 🤝

The only issue is I see a lot of people hunching (totally fine), but then leaning forward too much. Being vulnerable for knees and all kinds of openings. Just remember, hunch shoulder and chin (yes)… but still keep torso “over” your waist line. NO leaning forward. Or you’ll regret it one day 😈

For boxers as examples: Tua had no god damn neck in posture. Benavidez is a shrimper and very effectively. Winky Wright went back straight, ultra-tucked and walked into your face. Carmen Basillio/Rocky Marciano took several beatings of a lifetime by going caveman-hunch and chin down, with dog shit defense. Take from those what you will. You can't kick from some of them, so it only works throwing hands.
@adrianb.41559 ай бұрын
Haha i did amateur boxing first, got away with that hunched stance for a few amateur mt fights till ran into a good clincher coz ur posture is easy to break with head low

It's hard when you're a female and I've been told to sit up constantly at work because its not proper or ladylike to "slouch", but I have my shoulders/back always slightly curled in that defensive fighting stance...its just natural at this point.

Obviously it’s good to move your head as you punch or just after your combo as you’ve explained many times. However… do you have specific movements for each punch or just move and rely on your instincts/drills? Instead of usually slipping jabs specifically maybe you just move your head and do whatever feels right?
