Always nice to see a video promoting LLB, as it's a really fun game even before you get a handle on how to play right. Plus, it has a wacky factor to it that makes it all the more fun, like Doombox's Crouch and Candyman's ability to slide through walls to appear on the opposite side of the arena.

Great video. Its extremely well made and even better paced. This video was amazing and ill be excited to see what you make in the future. I will say however is that i dont agree with your take that fighting games supers (you call them specials in the video) and meter are most often just extra damage. Every major fighting game has its own plethora of super moves that provide useful utility options and not pure damage. And even more fighting games have ways to use their meter that isnt just a super move. Guilty Gear, the video you used as one of your examples, has a central mechanic called Roman Cancel that allows you to slow down and cancel any move time for 25% of your meter. This has various, almost infinite appliances, most being non-damaging. Again, you said you dont really play fighting games so i cant blame you, but I just disagreed on that point.

As a walking talking fighting game encyclopedia I do have a problem with one specific claim you make. Super moves in fighting games aren't *always* big damage enders and kill options, or even really that often. Some games or series do fall into the habit of universally making most/all supers That Move That You Do At The End Of A Combo, namely Street Fighter (SF3 nothwithstanding), but there's equally a storied history of supers you do for various other utility, including as a punish option, as a reversal option, as a way to keep the opponent blocking during a mixup, as a mixup in and of itself, or even to enhance your basic moveset. I'm not here to convince you that traditional fighters are better or that you should like them more than you do, I think Lethal League is amazing too! I understand your problem of not being able to get past the onboarding process, I've had that problem with every single fighter I've ever dabbled in (including Blaze). But the claim that fighting game supers are never interesting without any asterisks felt like a gross overgeneralization that I couldn't leave without correction. Keep up the good work!
@blunderly
@blunderly 3 ай бұрын
ay I appreciate the feedback, you’re not the first to point this out and I agree! I’ve been trying out more fighting games and I see that was a boneheaded take of mine that came mostly from like only a surface level understanding of the genre. Fantastic video, but I gotta be real and just let you know that your comment at 8:31 is not really accurate to fighting games. What makes special moves interesting is their utility, and special moves that cost meter usually have even greater utility. A special move usually isn't considered 'good' if all it does is just do a lot of damage. I know this is pedantic, and I know your comment just comes from a lack of knowledge about fighting games, but... hey somebody had to say it. No grudge here- great vid. seriously.
@blunderly

@laserthem
@laserthem 5 ай бұрын
I have a problem with the section about "special moves" at 8:24 First of all, to get the pedantic part out of the way, what you're referring to are "supers". "Special moves" are moves usually performed with a motion plus a button that don't require any resources, like a hadouken, while super moves require some sort of resource (Super meter, EX meter, Tension Gauge, etc.), that's the main difference. I'm sure you're aware of that, but I think it's important to get that out of the way first. The biggest problem here is that you describe supers as "straight forward kill moves with not much utility", which is completely false. Most supers in fighting games are utility supers, and supers that only serve to deal damage are often considered quite bad. As an example, the most common type of super is the invincible reversal, a big move that makes its user completely invulnerable during its start-up whose main purpose is to escape pressure and knock the opponent away. Even if you for some reason only consider supers that fit your definition of "kill moves" (which I will assume means supers that are used in combos for damage), there are so many factors that go into consideration beyond how much of the opponent's health bar you're taking away: Does it do stun? Do I get a better knockdown so I can continue pressure? Do I *sacrifice* my knockdown for pressure? So on and so forth It's honestly quite baffling that you would assume such simplicity from a genre that you yourself admit to not be that interested in. I would recommend you do more research in the topics you cover in the future. In any case, I love Lethal League Blaze, and I'm happy that there's people talking about it.
@blunderly
@blunderly 5 ай бұрын
yea I’ve mentioned in other comments that I regret making that claim, after playing other fighting games recently like street fighter 6 and getting into the genre more that was really just a poor take. I appreciate your comment as it’s given even more insight into it that I still didn’t know, I appreciate ya.
