Funny enough Fire is actually a solid defensive type. Its weaknesses are common attacking types, but 5 resistances is great, especially when dual-typed.

Heatran is mostly always good. And we have a fire mon abusing it's natural resistencies of fire/dragon to be a force to be recon

And the best purpose of mega zard Y is using blast burn for the jokes I've hit ???? Levels of damage on the 4x effective Paras Blast burn is just so broken, its basically a one hit ko no matter who the opponent is, including bulky water types like swampert

Mega Zard Y sounds the best so far, 1.5*1.5*1.5*1.3 multiplier on fire moves is so cracked, Water and Rock types can't even always be safe with Solar Beam, Dragon types can be hit with STAB Dragon moves. Seems like such a sick wallbreaker, though it can be outsped.

How the megas perform in practice: Camerupt: you aren’t wrong with labeling it as the worst mega: I honestly think it should have made some room to keep sheer force. Since now it’s overall weaker, especially when it isn’t using a fire move. Houndoom: Forgettable is the word I describe doom. Considering all of the other broken sun megas, it doesn’t really stand out Mega typhlosion: The thing is a godsend on sand for providing valuable special offense in a mostly physically based style, as well as being essential in mono ground as their way of dealing with the grass match up. Tho (probably safe since it is out on 2.0beta section of the dex), it’s about to get GUTTED in 2.0 due to losing it’s sand kit for a blazing soul focus, which sounds great…. Until you realize that it’s on a Mon that can’t hold boots. Zards (both since they are related): X is admittedly scary, but it suffers from one simple problem: Why use this over zard y. Zard y is an absolute monster: with not having to deal with a 4x rock weakness now, it can freely spam out nuclear weather balls, dpulses/dracos, solar beams, flame bursts what have you. In addition a fun little trick with the dragon: base zard has sun worship, so if you send in base zard under sun, you get a free speed boost that stays even while mega evolved. So you can come in under sun, get a speed boost, and then mega, and all of a sudden you have a zard that now has a scarf boost as well as a specs boost under sun. Blaziken: It is not used at all. That tends to happen in a meta where giratina origin and ho-oh are everywhere, the latter even only being 2x weak to stone edge due to new fire/fairy typing. All the while the latter also being great fire type competition alongside primal groudon. I wouldn’t be surprised if it eventually gets tested for ou and it being fine tbh. Infernape: on paper, its stall’s worst nightmare. In practice, you can still wall this using type based counters that don’t mind the mixed attacking potential, even defensive drizzle zapdos works. Still is a pain to actually switch into tho

Well for specifics: zard x’s plan does involve exactly what it says on the tin: you spam tough claws near drawback less raging furies and outrages on dragon dance sets. However more noticeable here is the major drop off in power when using a coverage move like earthquake, so if you’re forced into a coverage move, it’s likely not hitting as hard as you’d like it to

The normal Typhlosion with Choice Specs + Modest nature with all evs on sp. attack + Eruption and Soul Blaze (the fire priority skill) is much better than the mega and nobody can change my mind about that. Simply a absolute unit.

Have you tried v2.0 yet, and will you be doing about the new Redux regional form + their megas? I'm honestly having a blast using some of them, especially Mega Magcargo Redux (Oh yeah, regular Magcargo also got a mega so that's another new fire mega). This thing is an absolute wall, with natural high physical def, 20% reduced dmg and another 20% reduced special dmg, so you can fully invest in def but still tanking special moves like nothing lol. On top of that, Mega Magcargo R does not take indirect dmg so no poisoning it too. Ingrain + Sitrus Berry + Harvest and it can stay there boosting till +5-6 SpA and sweeping teams.

Did you know that the 2.0 Beta is out now? With one particular new feature I think it would be an interesting idea to do a revisit of these lists. Permanent Megas (without having to hold the stones). I think it will be interesting to explore Megas that can hold items to enhance them.

as the president of the numel fan club, it sure is a shame that camerupt is so low on the rankings. it shines in doubles trick room teams, but with the lack of double battles in the game it really doesn't get a lot of time to shine. sure hope 2.0 makes mega camerupt more viable, direct or indirect (of course i know the answer to this question but i'm not gonna spoil it for anyone who's not played it yet)

Imo I really think Mega Typhlosion shouls be higher, until they can block priority or they're immune to Fire, I don't think much wants to swap in safely on a Priority boosted 150 BP stab Fire type move thats followed up with a 50 BP Eruption. Mega Typhlosion also becomes a very scary nuke in sun as it can hit to bulky Waters super effectively with Solar Beam but Eruption probably doing more anyways. My point: Mega Typhlosion is busted with its 200 BP Eruption that moves first and 90 BP Flame Burst that has the same priority bracket as Extreme Speed (acounting Flaming Soul is active) Edit: I forgot it got Hellblaze so when you're low you can use Flame Burst which it boosted by 80% and then work your way up back to Flaming Soul range

I fucking love thyplosion in this game If you are faster Eruption melts anything in it's way. Are you too weak to use eruption ? Flame Busrt is now a priority 40bp special move, if you are in hellblaze AND mega it is a double hit "45" BP priority move that is booster by 80% than 30%. This freaking monstrosity carried my ass the whole fucking game
