Maybe actual food, not pieces of crappy frozen fish fried with rapeseed overused oil and served with frozen fries, of course, fried in playdoh again. Seriously, guys, you are disrespectful with worldwide cuisine, pretending you are gourmets when you´re more ignorant about food than any average person. These people knew nothing about food, they just try to make words sound fancy, words like "texture", "crispy" or "buttery". Alienating.

I spent 4 years of my life in London, from 1962 to 1966. That was long time ago. Enjoyed fish and chips. As far as I was concerned there was no other food to match it. In those days cod and chips cost 3 shillings. The price is now at least £ 10. I was in my teens then. I am pushing 70 now. How times have changed.

Yes, the comments are very rude. They are reviewing the food, not trying to bring attention on themselves. A lot of places season the chips so heavily that they lose the flavor of potato. They didn't attack me, but it was enough to make me nervous because those things go for the eyes; at least it wasn't bald eagles, because those bad boys are up there in numbers you wouldn't believe. Golden Chippy all the way! Price-wise. Taste-wise. Quality-wise. You guys forgot that not only are the fish battered everyday with the orders, but also are the Cod fishes caught every day! This is why the taste at Golden Chippy can almost never be beaten. Plus the great service and crew is priceless and I guess what makes the experience truly delightful. You can clearly see that all this was nowhere close to be found at other outlets. Lastly, they didn’t have Sam (the regular guy taking the order) and his father, who is the actual owner and head chef (also one who created the recipe)! I got to know when I first went there and asked them the secret. He gracefully, politely and humbly stated that it’s just nothing special, just fresh Cod every day and God’s blessing 💚 The father-son duo is hospitable, jolly and make the dining experience truly worth it. Note that this is not an endorsement and a compliment from someone who is a critical foodie. My love for restaurant has been strengthened by three visits in my past three trips to London - once in every trip and they always remembered me plus the taste and all were exactly the same 👍 PS: Golden Chippy is actually voted the best fish and chips restaurant in all of Europe - not just the U.K. I hope that the guys are doing fine and hanging in there tight during the tough year! Here’s to the restaurant and wishing that it’s spirit remains alive forever ♥️

My wife and I were on holiday in London in August and decided to try The Golden Chippy based on your recommendation. It was a bit of a train ride from where we were staying near the Waterloo Station but we were there to see London so we enjoyed the trip out and back. We had a wonderful time. The fish and chips were absolutely delicious and well worth the trip. Highly recommend for an authentic fish and chips experience. It's all they do and they do it superbly. We will definitely eat here again.

@@elainepearson4817 you've just watched that Tom Scott video. He's probably correct, but for all intents and purposes it's a pointless video because the 'vinegar' in chip shops tasted exactly the same as malt vinegar you would have at your house. Hi, I am from India. We don't have fish and chips culturally here, despite having loads of fisheaters, but I have had some at fancy places. My theory was that fish and chips was supposed to be quite a cheap snack kind of thing. I see costs of 11, 14, etc. GBP per plate...that's more than INR 1000, we ll get an amazing medium-rare filet mignon here for that price! Quite incredible. Fish n chips here cost about INR 250-300 (roughly 4-5 GBP) and we complain that it's costly!

I watched almost all videos of Best In Town and here what I learn: UK Food Insider (UKFI) usually order one specific food/drink mentioned in the title, take few bite/sip of the food/drink, analyze it, continue to the next place, repeat and done. While US Food Insider (USFI) usually order the experiences: food, drink, side dish; then eat it, compare one another and argue each other in the wrong time, continue, repeat and done. UKFI come to a place to try their food, USFI come to a place to have their tummy full.

Golden Chippy wins it for me.🏆 I’m glad I’m not alone in being offended by the way they picked at the fish with their forks and left all that good batter behind on the plate like it was trash. At first, I thought they were just showing us the texture of the fish, which I appreciated. But they treated the batter like it was a banana peel. I’m surprised they didn’t throw it over their shoulders but seeing it left behind on the plate made me so sad. I still enjoyed the video and now I NEED Fish & Chips.
