I dunno why back bacon is so heavily associated with Canada. In Canada, like in the states, side bacon (a.k.a, bacon) is far more common. In the UK though when they talk about “bacon” they always mean back bacon. For some reason it’s far more common there despite not being as tasty imo.

2345434a It’s not back bacon as in rashers. It’s just that same back cut, but cut thick and cured - ham, that’s called Canadian Bacon in the States, probably because those round slices were often used in Canada, I’m guessing by the Quebecois, instead of belly/side bacon that was used in New England/New York back in the day, so the name stuck. Actual back bacon is used in the UK and Ireland.

Ok Alison love the laugh at 12:14 was PRICELESS. You were such a happy camper with all that delicious fondue on that bread. That's a very good restaurant. The food looked great. Great shots of the food and love your energy. Garlic butter makes everything better. The Hot Stones remind me of the delicious meal cooked on stone that an Indigenous family= in Peru cooked for us when we stayed with them. AMAZING editing as always Eric. Rumour has it, at the Grizzly House, it used to be a swingers club. If you looked at the tables inside, they had phones in them that connected to other tables. They could discreetly call other tables to “proposition” them! Great place for fondue!

If you like Canada, Michigan the home of Mackinac is a fun trip. We have lots of beautiful lighthouses and waterfalls etc. you could take a road trip here and swim in all the Great Lakes... FYI Superior never gets warmer than 40 degrees

We went to Banff on a camping trip when I was a child. It was incredibly beautiful. I loved the mountain goats, bears, etc. Thus vlog brings it all back. Very cool!

Mackinac is pronounced MAK-EH-NAW. It's in Michigan. If you're ever in Michigan, I highly recommend Mackinac Isalnd. No cars allowed!

Yep, monte Cristo sandwich. I’m surprised you haven’t encountered them in the US before. Usually ham and Swiss in the middle. I usually put jam on it :)

While Mackinac (an island in upper Michigan) was technically a national park, it only existed from 1875 - 1895. Today the same area is a Michigan state park. So really Yellowstone is the only national park in North America older than Banff.

When I was a kid, my aunt in Tacoma, WA and her husband had a Winnebago and drove into Canada every year. She would send me pictures. You could see Mt. Rainier from her backyard. Beautiful part of the world. Thanks for the vlog- you two are great!

The best beaver tail IMHO is the one with cinnamon, sugar, and lemon juice, but there is no such thing as a bad beaver tail. We'll be passing through Banff ourselves on Saturday, on our way to visit family about an hour NW of Calgary. We were so impressed with your van, that we contacted Noma and made a date to go into Calgary to see their wares while we are in the area. We're so excited!! You guys definitely did a great job of choosing places to eat in this video. I'm going to have to go make myself something to eat RIGHT NOW.

Great choice with the maple beavertail!! That’s definitely my go-to!! You guys have to put on your bucket list to visit Ottawa - Canada’s capital - during February to skate on the Rideau Canal (longest skating rink) and indulge in a beavertail and hot chocolate! Definitely a must in the winter!!

Great video! While the Banff, please be sure to drive around the Minnewanka loop (Lake Minnewanka, Two Jack Lake, Johnson Lake, Cascade Ponds, etc). Beautiful, in particular Two Jack Lake...post card perfection! I'm guessing you'll be heading out to Lake Louise, so while there it's a short drive to Moraine Lake. Also, Johnston Canyon (note the spelling of Johnston) is a must see. Be sure to walk at least to the upper falls, or further if you're up to it. Sad the weather isn't a bit warmer. This isn't typical for the Calgary/Banff area this time of year. We're usually around the mid-upper 20's mid July-late August. We were out there last year in July, and it was 30C (85F) with lots of sunshine. Ditto the year before. I live in Calgary, and the forecast is looking better for next week. Mid-upper 20's C.

Its been mote than 50 years since I've been to Banff. I traveled from the east coast to the west of Can with my grandparents. I remember feeding sunflower seeds to the ground squirrels outside of Banff. People were feeding them peanuts. When they discovered my sunflower seeds I was covered with those little suckers!

The crunchy bits in the chocolate fondue come from the Tolberone chocolate that is used. Back in the seventies I would have fondue parties. I know Banff well having lived in Calgary form 1985 to 1988. My late husband and I spent many hours there. Your posts are fabulous, thanks.

The Mountain View’s are completely breathtaking. Omg, the fondue looked so scrumptious, especially the meats! I’ve had fondue before, but broth was the base for dunking the cuts of meats. It looked like you were sautéing the meat in that herb butter. Another great video!

If you have time there are a couple beautiful hikes close to Banff you will love. Just West of Banff is Johnston Canyon hike with a short and long trail to 2 different falls (beautiful and easy hike), and on your way back to Calgary swing by Canmore (lots to see, eat and drink there)...but just outside Canmore is Grassi Lakes Trail (this one will absolutely blow you away!!). It is fantanstic to see you guys traveling right around my neck of the woods lol. Hope you enjoy your time here (too bad you just missed the Calgary Stampede. Could have been a whole series on its own ;))

yes there is a tunnel ,the railway goes through it ..go to Field on Highway 1 ..you see the back of the train from one end of the tunnel and look at the other opening of the tunnel and see the first engine .. (that is if the train is not too long ) love your videos

I loved the Grizzly house but I was inside it in Sept of 2019 it was a rainy day my dad and I did the complete thing like you two did I ordered the Original one with chicken and beef and my dad did the prawns or scallops or something like that. We did the hot stone as that was more fun. The Cheese fondue was really good and the Chocolate thing at the end. It was a little pricy but worth it for a special ocassion. I haven't done fondue in a long time and it was fun.

Yup I honestly swear I saw you guy on our travels.. we traveled to Edmonton through jasper and came back home through Banff and I seen a black Mercedes camper-van with a gorgeous redhead standing outside the passenger door and I demanded my boyfriend to turn around cause I swore it was you two but he told me I was “seeing things”.... -.- lol Enjoy your travels though Canada! I think the Beavertails are similar to what we grew up on here in WV. Didn't have a fancy name, we just called it "Fried Dough". We would take Rhoades dough and fry it in butter and then top with honey butter, jelly, or peanut butter. Fond memories :)

If you come to Kelowna, BC you have to check out the KANGAROO farm in winfield!!! I think the nicest drive here in BC is from Prince George, BC take Hwy 16W and then Hwy 37N up to Dease Lake you won't regret it!!

I live just outside of Toronto in the suburbs, they used to make savory pizza style beavertail years ago which was my favorite but for some reason, they discontinued them otherwise I like the cinnamon sugar flavor. Also, I have a friend (Meagan) who now lives in Calgary who I visited a few years ago and she took me to the Grizzly House, it was so good! I also noticed that your server was my friend Meagan's friend Liam whose house we stayed at when we were in Banff lol small world!
