You always were a great gamer, but you have ascended to the level of the great storyteller, not only sharing your passion, but embarquing us into to the journey that you have been on playing these games, making us feel, for a brief moment, like we played them with you. Games are more than toys, they are universes to explore and experiences to live through, and you sir, embody that spirit like no one. In a way, that player that climbed that mountain with you, almost until the end, is all of us. Long live the games, long live the RNG gamer.

I’ve played 1000s of video games also….. never took a break….. I’m 43, started playing video games in 1983 when my Dad brought home a TI-99/4A and that was the beginning of the addiction. I’ve never went through a period where I wasn’t gaming since, and I don’t foresee that ever happening. Love playing games, talking about games, collecting games and watching 42 yr. olds talk about games…… Keep them thumbs strong and keep gaming!

@@RNGGamerYT I haven’t played that one, at least I don’t think. I was really young when we had the TI-99/4A and it’s the only system our family had that I still don’t own. I do remember having Pac-Man, a racing game, some space type game, many educational games, and my favorite (the one I remember the most about it) was A-Maze-ing….. Played the hell outta that one. Then, a few years later came a little box called the NES and the video game claws dug in and never let go.

I guess I'm just old, but my favorites are mostly for consoles of the past. They are: #1 Halo: Combat Evolved. This game drew me in like no other game, and I've played at least 8,000+ different video games and finished over 4,000. Not only did it draw me in such a fantastic way, but I also hosted 14 Halo tournaments with over 200 contestants. The game rocked hard, and even after I had the last tournament, people still kept asking for me, long after Halo 2 had released. Of all of the games I have played, as for play time, none has come close to this game, logging in over 10,000 hours. #2 Zelda: Link to the Past. Before Halo, no game drew me in like this epic tale did. I was constantly amazed and pleasant surprised with each new path. #3 Super Mario World. This is platforming perfected. I've finished this game from start to finish countless times and every 4th of July, I make a point to finish it again, as the fireworks at the end, and the awesome feeling I experience. #4 Legend of Zelda. Again, this game reigns supreme and was carefully thought out and planned to build on my favorite video game series ever. #5 Super Mario Bros. This game took the world by storm, and left all of the Space Invaders and Pitfall players rethinking what they had been doing for years. This was in a way, truly the start of video game graphic adventures, and for many, the first time they ever experienced magic on the screen. I have played video games since 1978, starting with Pong, and the Magnavox Odyssey 2, and a few others up until the NES. Games before the NES were a pass time. They were something you could push yourself to get the highest score, but for the most part, they were 15 to 30 minute diversions at best. When the NES debuted, it changed everything gamers knew about games and birthed an entire generation of gamers who literally could not get enough of the games they played.

Similar age and life experience, I agree with everything. Journey was a game that unplugged me from the matrix. I had a very similar experience. The bond I formed with a random player without ever speaking an English word. It could have been anyone from any country, any race, age, gender and we still could perfectly communicate with chirps alone. We played through the whole game together nearly from start to finish and the ending broke me. When I finished it, I sat back and just stared at the screen and felt like I literally experienced my own personal interactive artistic masterpiece. No other game up to that point had given me that same feeling, and none have since. I think about that game a lot.

I'm similiar in age 41. Also been playing since I was 5 years old and same same as you, I've never taken a "break". It would be hard for me to definitively say some of the games I've played are the best I've ever played. But there are definitely experiences that have stuck with me more than others. The N64 era was amazing, we haven't seen a leap like that since then, it was amazing to have been alive to go from the SNES to the N64, and Ocarina of Time was incredible, so much so that people still have it listed as one of the greatest games ever made. But you couldn't play it today and think that, you had to just be there. Other examples like this are World of Warcraft, Halo 2, Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, Shadow of the Colossus, Skyrim. I love how you mentioned Dragon Force and Hades. Amazing games

I'm the same as you almost but one year older. Started gaming as a child on the zx spectrum on my parent's kitchen table and progressed to nes, snes, ps1, ps2, xbox 360, ps4 and ps5. I think when you do that you become a hardcore skilled gamer. Talking about mega man. Remember having to doing it with no saves and having to start over and over? Probably why i hate easy games still to this day and get bored easily if there's no challenge. Anyway some of my older favourites are... Horace goes skiing. Manic miner. Feud. Gunsmoke. UN squadron. Double dragon. Paper boy. Skate or die. Commando. Some of my more modern favourites... Tenchu. Dark souls. Skyrim. Dragons dogma. Shadow of mordor/war. Alien isolation. Assassin's creed 1, 2 and brotherhood. Dead space. And my all time favourite is... Monster hunter world.

The original Zelda is up there too. Streets of Rage 2 is one of my favorites. Rock and Roll Racing, SF2, Shinobi3, Mario3, Gyruss, Skyrim, GTA VC, and Trails of Cold Steel 1-4 all come to mind immediately for consoles. All the Blizzard games for computer, Civilization 2 and 5, and Hearts of Iron(all of them) for PC. And I'm sure I'm missing a crap ton of good ones!

I’mm 55 and I’ve been playing video games since i was a kid (who was a teenager in the 80s knows the meaning of Arcade… og Pac Man anyone?). I have played loads of games but there are 3 that really stand out for what they meant to me and the gaming world as a whole and they’re: 1) Half-Life. Nowadays people don’t understand it but Half-Life marked a turn in history of pc gaming: there was a ‘before Half-Life’ era and a ‘post Half-Life’ era. Try it today and you’ll fall in love for Gordon’s Freeeman adventures. Now think what it was for us back then in 1998! 2) World of Warcraft. Before WoW online gaming wasn’t really a thing. Playing video games was playing vs the pc’s or the console’s NPCs/IAs. WoW changed that. It was the first MMORPG really played by everyone around the world. After playing WoW it became difficult to watch back to solo playing. A new era of real time real people playing was arising. 3) Civilization by Sid Meier. The original , 1991 one. Much like Half Life there had never been something like that before. It was something so new, so diverse that was really incredible to play. Cheers 😊

@@Kingepticon I wish I could play DQXI for the first time again. I don’t mean to overhype it, but when it was over, it felt like one of the most amazing gaming experiences I’ve ever had. Awesome list buddy. Shadow Complex is fantastic. Also one i will add for me is something i never hear ever get mentioned called Ashen (It is a souls like) But the co-op is sort of done like that journey you mentioned , Were you randomly run into other players that are also playing. There is no summoning like in actual souls. You will just be running around and run into people randomly (At first i thought it was NPC helpers but no it is actual other human players) And from what i remember there is no way to talk to each other only use emotes. Fantastic game if you never played it buddy. Awesome stuff as always 😁😁😁

Great list! I've played and loved most of these games, but no list of mine would be complete without Dark Souls. My first playtrough was nothing short of epic and a game changing experience. Death Stranding gave me a similar feeling of loneliness and epic achievement too, but DS was a more complete experience. Keep up with the good stuff!

@@RNGGamerYT No such thing as too much Dark Souls. Too bad you can't ever recreate the feeling of playing it for the first time.
@Xoulrath_Ай бұрын
I wish that I could enjoy the Souls games the way that some do. To me, they're just 3D representations of Ghosts N' Goblins. Not hard, just grindy and repetitive. That type of gameplay didn't appeal to me as a kid and it appeals to me even less now.
@gustavocoimbra2398Ай бұрын
@@Xoulrath_ I don't like GnG. 😂 Can't see any relation between the rich and interconnected world, the lore and gameplay of the Souls games and the arcade style of GnG. Not lecturing you, I know that not all games are for everyone, but you are comparing different beasts.
@Xoulrath_Ай бұрын
@gustavocoimbra2398 uh, yeah they are literally the same game. The designer even mentioned games like GNG being a source of inspiration. Of course it wasn't a one for one recreation because they are different games. But where they are SIMILAR I'd what matters: stiff, unforgiving control to make the game "difficult;" an avater that is "weak" and "helpless" against the hordes before him; a world of enemies that all have the ability to move well within the environment while the avatar may as well be standing still; and a very specific way to approach the game, which is to say slow and plodding with a one track mind of deliberate intent. There is no skill demonstration to be had, because there is no skill to demonstrate. You parry if you can, then counterattack. If you are incapable of parrying, then you dodge and attack when an opening presents itself. All the while, you keep an eye on your stamina to make sure that you can do anything. It's the most basic pattern recognition, rote memorization, and resource management system around. You might notice, if you play GNG, that it's the same thing, just without the stamina bar. Learn the pattern, rinse and repeat. Its largely why so many gamers love the series. Because it makes them feel like they have skill, when all they really did was grind out a win. But more power to you.

Those are some interesting choices. I've played and enjoyed them all with the exception of Death's Stranding. I own it, but it's in the backlog. I think playing it during covid was such a good call. Talk about a memorable time and just the right game for it. I've watched a "story cut" that basically showed all the cutscenes without the traveling, but I suspect the gameplay is an important part to get the real experience of the game. I'm a big RPG guy and my top game is Suikoden 1+2. I've always considered them a package deal since you could carry over your save file between games, so imagine my delight when they announced the remaster. I'm still waiting for that to come out, I just hope there's some sort of collector's edition with a bunch of extra goodies. If you haven't played them already, be sure to grab a copy for your collection!

What little I played of DS, I enjoyed. It was such a fresh gameplay experience. Where the game lost me was with the Kojimafication of it. I always liked MGS and MGS 2 DESPITE the stories. Not being able to skip the cutscenes and just play the game ruined DS for me.
@subtledemisefoxАй бұрын
@@Xoulrath_you can't skip the videos in DS? Are you sure? I remember skipping the repetitive scenes, like connecting to the Chiral Network. Maybe because I play on PC? I didn't upgrade to the Director's Cut until months after that finally got ported.
@Xoulrath_Ай бұрын
@subtledemisefox yeah, I'm sure. I mashed all of the buttons, hit the Options button looking for a skip cutscene option, all the usual stuff and I couldn't skip them. I believe that I was playing the DC as well, but it was on PS5. I'm not against stories in games, but I am against unskippable cutscenes for stories that I'm not enjoying, and unfortunately DS was one of those games. I put in a solid hour of playtime and about 40 minutes of that was unskippable cutscenes, so i just gave up on the game. And all I wanted to do was walk around the barren wasteland, carefully balancing my cargo.

I still have a copy of Dragon Force CIB along with the strategy guide. I never beat it, but I did play it a lot. When I first saw the dragon in Mega Man 2, my jaw hit the floor (kind of like it did when I saw Dragon's Lair for the first time.) In fact, the dragon shocked me so much while my jaw was on the floor, it caused me to forget to jump and I died. When I got back to that spot at least I knew what was coming so I didn't die from forgetting to jump. I had a hard time beating that dragon back in the day because I was so mesmerized by it that I was too busy looking at him instead of paying attention to what strategy I was trying to implement to beat him. I did beat the game and have beaten it several times, but that dragon is definitely memorable (as is Singe from Dragon's Lair.)

Journey and Shadow Complex both look amazing and I want to get those and try. Dragon Force looks amazing but might not be for me (nor can I get an original copy or Saturn at the moment). Death Stranding I've been avoiding because I know it would likely suck me in and other games would be on the sidelines until I finished it ha but I do own it and can take the journey someday. I can agree with MM2 bring an amazing game. But I've got to disagree with RNG about it being the easiest. 3 was by far an easier game to me. Maybe that's because 2 was my first, and Dr. Wily at the end is genuinely challenging until you know how to beat him. 3 simply didn't have that same feel. It also doesn't help that it felt recycled in some ways from 2. Honestly I don't think that the MM games got more challenging than 2 until they hit the PS.
@MrJimitheeАй бұрын
@@Xoulrath_ Yeah matey, I don't think ANY Megaman game is "easy" but a LOT of people played 2 first, which maybe made 3 seem easy-er (!)

@@MrJimithee yeah, I obviously acknowledged that, lol. I still just feel like everything about 3 was super easy. The levels, the bosses, and especially the last bosses. Not that it was an "easy" game either by normal standards, but I'd say that it was the easiest MM game. As for the OG, it's more the lack of no password system that makes it more "difficult," since you've got to beat it in a gauntlet-style marathon, or be fortunate enough to be able to leave your system on until you do. I vaguely remember playing 4 and not thinking that it was any more difficult than 3, but I can't even remember 5 or 6 at all. I'd moved on to the X games by that point, which were harder, but also not.
