Actually, it was PC *AND* Mac. Bungie (like Blizzard) was making their titles work on both platforms since the Marathon series. And there were constant PC vs Mac debates in the community. It was (mostly) good-natured, but neverending. When Steve Jobs had a hissie fit and set Mac gaming backwards by at least six months, because HE wanted to announce a new graphics card, that was another strike against Apple. And similarly, when a new virus hit Windows, the Mac users got more ammunition. (And back then, Windows could just become plenty unstable, all on its own, over time.) (I ran one of the fansites. So when I switched from PC to Mac, people acted like I'd just come out of the closet)

This retrospective is honestly, one of the best I've ever seen and I'm already 8:30 minutes in. It goes into the development history from how Myth 2 did a number on Bungie in the early days of the game's development to its slow transformation from Blam! to what we know as Halo: Combat Evolved, and then continues throughout the game's hype and development and beyond. Honestly, I will ALWAYS respect Bungie. Sure, the people that made them who they are left, so now they're corpo sellouts in the midst of butchering their oldest IP into an extraction shooter, but back then, Bungie had a knack for going through troubled development cycles and still ending up just fine whilst delivering quality experiences with their Halo games. Perseverance, strength and victory through dark times is what Bungie represented back then. And because of that, I will always respect who they were, rather than throw hissy-fits about who they are now. [Side note, for those interested, Classic Marathon is now available on Steam, and I highly recommend you check it out because that game is as good as Halo 1 & 2 IMO.]

I remember when Halo 3 dropped, it was one of the only games I've preordered, and there was a line going through the entire mall at midnight to get it. It was really disorganized for the earliest people that showed up, so they pulled numbers from a hat to put us in order once it started getting crazier, I think I got number 8, but I was pretty young, there was this guy in his early 30s that swapped with me and I got to go in 3rd. I wonder what ever happened to him, that's the kind of little nice things I think we should all be trying to do more often. 5 places would mean nothing to any of us, but it's the type of thing a kid might just remember for the rest of his life.

I got my Xbox in early-to-mid 2002, with a copy of Halo. I played it non-stop for hours that day. Got my cousin into it via the couch co-op as we tag teamed the campaign. So much fun. I got Halo 2 on launch day here in the UK (which was 3 days later than the US and Australia), and again, it captured my attention for weeks, just replaying the campaign. Then I got Xbox Live.....I think you can figure it from here. Got Halo 3 on launch day too for the Xbox 360, and to this day, I feel 3 is the epitome of the series as a whole, It is my favorite game in the series and Halo 3 was the first game in the series I actually completed on Legendary (Halo 2 and its Legendary Jackal snipers can get rekt!) and of course Im played the crap out of the multiplayer too! So many memories with this trilogy, and even with side stories and prequels, this was Bungie firing on all cylinders. And the modding community are still keeping it going, these are guys and gals who are way smarter and far more creative than I'll ever be, and they are awesome too. A great retrospective, Prime, you've earned my sub, and I look forward to going through your other retrospectives.
@Wuunderboy2 ай бұрын
@1:18:10 I truly wish Bungie instead of focusing on a sequel so much in 2002... in those days, instead were focusing on an add on DLC game in the form of a new DISC to Halo CE where it introduced 2 new gamemodes. One being 4 player co-op firefight to Halo CE where you fight on maps based off of the levels like Pillar of Autumn, Assault on the control room, Truth and reconciliation and the second mission itself Halo where you can turn on friendly marines if playing by yourself or off if on splitscreen fighting covenant flood and sentinels waves. And Secondly being a gamemode like BEAST mode in gears 3 where you play in 3rd person (like Halos PC roots) but play 3rd person as a covenant CE elite with covenant aliens on your team fighting waves of the flood and sentinels on maps based off levels like Two betrayals, Keyes, and the Maw. With a bonus material reveal for Halo 2 on this Disc THEN after releasing this in say late 2002 or early-mid 2003, that's when Bungie should have focused on developing Halo 2 to be released the same day Microsoft planned to release the Xbox 360. It would have gave them more time and free spirited fun to make what is already a masterpiece to us now, even better! Imagine Halo 2 releasing on Xbox 360 with better dynamic lighting and a fully fleshed out Uncut version and it's own firefight/beast mode etc. IN 2005. Would have been phenomenal!!!
