What about Apple's way of scaling things by X2? You use 1080p, so you get this 4K resolution. If you used the 4K resolution from the Apple menu, it would be super tiny. So, how can you enjoy the 4K resolution natively in that sense?
@ConorButkovic7 күн бұрын
I use the 1080p mode yes which meets the "retina" spec. although the scaling is set to 1080p everything is still shown in full 4k picture quality. its just the way the Mac works if that make sense. no matter what it is set to 4K but you choose the UI size essentially via the system preferences
@thru_mi_lensАй бұрын
so what exactly resolution are you using with this monitor? I always wonder which resolution can give me the real life 1:1 ratio, meaning 1cm at 100% in layout apps on screen equals to 1cm physically.
@ConorButkovicАй бұрын
I’m using 1080p in system settings to achieve the “retina” standard (half of the native resolution) which gives true 4K resolution. I’m not too sure which resolution gives 1:1 as Mac’s handle displays differently than windows would

@ConorButkovic8 күн бұрын
you can but that would be dependent on your computer
@MakiPavlidis9 күн бұрын
Great use of that display. I’d want to run it at higher that 1080p though as the UI would be too large for me on a 32”. I think 1440 achieves the same UI scale as the default on a 5K display, how does that look in terms of sharpness / pixels? Also… wth is your Mac!? I couldn’t spot it…
@ConorButkovic7 күн бұрын
I've been switching between the two scaling options but haven't found what feels best just yet. both options offer basically the same sharpness which too my eyes I can't make out any pixels. oh and the Mac is hidden behind the wall off the setup lol

@ConorButkovicАй бұрын
I didn’t experience any eye strain or headaches, but I think that has a lot to do with the fact, I sat pretty far away from it as my desk is pretty big
@deadlock8Ай бұрын
Yeah that might be the reason then, my desk has a depth of only 120cm so that might cause some difficulties with this type of screen…

@ConorButkovic8 күн бұрын
I do get the full resolution and refresh rate as it supported on the M2 Ultra. The M1 family of chips don't support high refresh rates at least not without additional gear. the test clarity is really good also, it isn't a sharp as an Apple display but you can't make out any pixels on the LG

Interesting how you got a Mac that can't push anything past 144/120hz refresh rate due to it's lack of DisplayPort 1.4/2, do you have a second desktop or smth that can reach the refresh rate ceiling???
@ConorButkovic18 күн бұрын
Not sure if you missed it but my Mac can push the full refresh rate and resolution which is 4K 240hz… every Mac with an M2 Pro chip or higher can via HDMI 2.1

@@ConorButkovic Forgot DSC existed mb 😅, but still 480hz has incredibly niche applications for Windows and even less so for Mac given it's primary use case is for gaming - hopefully Apple dips their toes into this space more as time goes on 🤞

I have a BenQ EX321UX Mini LED Monitor for the following reasons: - Mini LED with HDR 1000. So no burn in worries. - 144Hz with FreeSync compatibility - 99% Adobe RGB, 99% P3 (I had this verified) - Very accurate Display HDR mode (which is how I run it all the time). - Pretty close to my MacBook Pro's HDR display - It acts as my dock for my desk setup as that gives a one cable solution for my MacBook Pro
@ConorButkovic7 күн бұрын
