That's great that there are still Chinese take-out spots doing basic Cantonese/American 'Hood' style food. Great basic dishes, like Egg food young, Lo mein noodles, Fried Chicken wings, General Tao's Chicken( which was by-the-way invented by a Chinese restaurant in the USA & is NOT from China), large portions, great prices & super people! JL, I love the dark meat also in the General Tao's Chicken! I will put Mr. Chen's on my to-go list, it's convenient!

I love that you pushed through the bad audio and put this out anyway. Small Chinese food joints are the best. My dad spent his last 10 years of life trying to replicate his favorite place's chicken lo mein (yes, I was the primary test subject). I moved out of state and have found my own which I frequent so often the owner and employees know me (not only when I come in, but when I call to order... "you want extra hot sauce on the side?")

Man, I miss Hood Chinese restaurants. They have good Chinese food restaurants all over here in Hawaii, but it's all family style menus. You can't get a personal order over here, no. You got to order $30-$50 worth of food and eat it little by little, hoping that it don't go bad. And then it's just something about the Hood Chinese food that got that taste that draw you back for more.

All of the food look so good. It is good that you have a go to place where the food has been consistently good for years. I miss the good Chinese food back in the hood in NYC. I mean the best fried rice, getting a whole chicken wing and really good Egg Foo Young. In NYC they serve BBQ pork fried rice and when I moved to AZ I noticed the pork fried rice didn't taste the same. It was because it was not BBQ pork. I have ask many spots do they make it and they just look at you sideways. Now I don't even eat Chinese food anymore.

General Tso's chicken is my go to dish. Whenever I go to any new restaurant I order General Tso's. If they make a bangin' dish, you know everything else gotta be on point. I grew up in Fort Greene, Brooklyn back in the 80's and 90's. The hood chinese spot across from my JHS made the bomb spare rib tips. If you're ever in Staten Island, visit Golden Star. Their boneless spare ribs are the shizz. Blessings to you and your crew. I appreciated your episode on Rah "The Ocky Way" from Red Hook.
