The way I usually construct Golden ratio is by constructing a regular pentagon. The diagonal and the side are in Golden ratio. I know there is a better way to do it, but I always forget it. But I never forget how to construct a regular pentagon.
@shennyboi1102 жыл бұрын
its really interesting to see how the two methods link up! -- the method of constructing a regular pentagon in a circle of radius 2 gives a pentagon of length √5

This is how I construct regular pentagons.

To construct sqrt(n^2+r): construct a segment of length sqrt(r). Perpendicular to it, construct a segment of length n. Construct the hypotenuse, which therefore has the desired length. Phi contains sqrt(5/4), which is sqrt(1+1/4). Sqrt(1/4) is 1/2. To add any length to a line segment, simply use parallel lines to transmit a distance arbitrarily across your target line. Transmit the 1/2 length parallel to the sqrt(5/4) length to complete the construction

This geometry problem is not pretty hard but it’s interesting to learn how to measure it with ruler and compass😮. That did really impress me,and now I have a new solution about one plus square root of 2 divided by two.

Andrew would ignore that error. Don't let him down. Take the engineering path and say "It *is* phi"

Unrelated to the video!! Bro!! I just found out that you studied your Masters degree from Universität Potsdam, Golm campus. I did my masters in Cognitive Systems there too (2017 - 2019) I may have met you or casually passed by you but I didn't know you back then 😫😫 Wish I could have been your friend back then 😪😪 Nonetheless, amazing channel and great videos. I hope you do very well and all the best 👍

Only a slight niggle.. You refer to using a "compass".. Strictly speaking the correct name for the device is "a pair of compasses". A compass is the thing that navigators & map readers use to determine North & other directions...

9:08 my teacher said this was wrong to extend lines like that because there is no exact point in the circle. Can someone enlighten me?
@DendrocnideMoroides2 жыл бұрын
What does that even mean "there is no exact point in the circle"
@christopher57842 жыл бұрын
Yeah, ask your teacher what they mean
@comma_thingy2 жыл бұрын
@@DendrocnideMoroides It means you can't choose the right point in a circle so that it is collinear with the line. However, what the teacher is missing is this doesn't matter, since we are not connecting a point on the circle to a point on the line (which is sort of what papa does here but oh well), but rather we extend the line segment (which we can do as it is one of the axioms) until we reach the circle
