As a big fan of Godzilla, *I've been waiting this moment to come* and here's 3 fun fact about this film! 1. Takashi Yamazaki the director of this film is a big fan of Godzilla, he also featured Godzilla as cameo in *"Always: Sunset on Third Street"* on 2005 and he is the director of *"Godzilla the Ride: Giant Monsters Ultimate Battle"* which have same base design for Godzilla in this film 2. *The film's budget is about $10 to 15 million!* But they're able to develop this film perfectly, *it's not about quantity but about quality* 3. *This is the first Godzilla film to winning Best Visual Effect Awards at Oscars!*

Takashi Yamazaki said. Some of the VFX staff Some staff would say, 'Your proposal is lame, so I'll change it. The frustrating thing is, sometimes I was so good at it, I couldn't complain. Everyone worked energetically to create difficult scenes, but on the other hand, simple CGI was put on the back burner due to lack of manpower, which almost delayed the production progress, so I purchased a computer at my own expense and worked to plant trees one by one on the mountain.

HOLY CRAP, do I believe the Oscar hype!!!! Minus One was beautifully done. Shikishima struggling to deal with survivor's guilt & PTSD suddenly being thrust back into a war against the very creature that put him in that spot to begin with was a hell of a fight. All while struggling to accept the family dynamic with Noriko and Akiko? Amazing. SIDE NOTES: > I wasn't expecting Noriko to have survived getting caught in that shockwave from the Atomic Breath, but those Godzilla cells literally saved her neck. > The title "Minus One" aludes to the bombings of Hiroshima & Nagasaki setting everything at 0, but Godzilla's arrival sent it down below 0 to -1.

Loved the movie! Loved the reaction! btw, its called "Godzilla: Minus One" because after the atomic bomb attacks in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan was considered Ground Zero. Therefore with Godzilla's attacks, he essentially destroys so much that he takes them to minus one metaphorically.

Godzilla's motivation in this is pure rage. The Director said he hates humanity for what they did to him. Godzilla knows it was humans responsible for the nukes that mutated him. His body was never meant to be this large, and is why he walks like a robot. He's in constant, excruciating pain that never lets up. So, he wants to inflict as much pain and suffering on humanity as he can. I saw this movie in theaters twice before seeing GxK, and as good as Minus One is, GxK was in pure fun. Minus One made me more excited see GxK and I wasn't disappointed. Balls to the wall fun. This is the beauty of Godzilla. You can have the dark and serious, AND light and fun. Literally having your cake and eating it too. Minus One is fantastic, about as good as it gets, but I had WAY more fun watching GxK.

My favorite Godzilla film. The official book had confirmed Godzilla had a profound hatred to humans, even a hated to his own newfound size and abilities, wanting nothing more than to die. If he can’t die, he’ll make the humans die. (Also, Godzilla was called actually Godzillasaurus, full-grown and had unnatural healing factor, before being bombed. The bomb gave him the heat ray, a larger size, and a seeping furious drive to destroy life.)

What is crazy is that this movie should have made hundreds of millions worldwide. But folks, def in US, just do not see foreign films. For clarification: Godzilla was originally just a REGULAR giant lizard from ancient time, but the nukes basically UPGRADED him into an Atomic Dinosaur Lizard. So he wasn't Atomic originally.

44:39 The two DDs had to travel very close to each so that the lines, going around Godzilla, from the inner DD could be held over the outer DD when they passed. The inner DD had some sort crane holding their line way high. 49:33 the black spreading thing on Noriko's neck is the setup for the sequel. Director said she was hit with fragments of Godzilla's flesh when he nuked Tokyo (from his mouth which gets severely damaged when Godzilla uses his heat ray). Director said she can regenerate a bit.

6:27 soooo glad ‘Grave of the Fireflies” was brought up! Based on the time of history it’s feels like the characters of both movies are traumatized by the same war. I genuinely believe the director saw “Grave” and added elements of it into this movie (Akiko reminds me of Setsuko a LOT). I also think this director wrote Godzilla Minus One to be a kind of healing experience for “Grave.” When Seiji (the boat Captain) says “We leave you the future…” deep down I feel like he’s making that promise to all the children affected by the war, not just to ‘Kid.’ It makes me think he’s making that promise to Setsuko 💔❤️‍🩹💔

19:44 Godzilla's mutation causes him unimaginable pain. His body essentially healed from the bomb too rapidly to the point where if you look at him, his skin isn't scales anymore, it's burn scars left by the bomb. Godzilla recognized humanity as the cause and takes his wrath out on them

I loved the crap out of this movie when I saw it for the first time, I've never watched the original Godzilla movies from back in the day, but to me at least it felt like a classic Godzilla movie made in the modern day with all the modern bells and whistles (somehow, on what is essentially a shoestring budget for a movie like this). This was a reimagining of the original 1954 Godzilla film where Godzilla was a metaphor for the devastation of atomic power and atomic weaponry. Before all the monster of the week battle movies. Its really good and was made for only 15 million and was unfortunately snuffed from many categories to win cause american media hate Japanese media since it doesn’t bend the knee to sociopolitical justice messaging. They did at least gave it best Visual Effects to not look like the awards where purposely snuffing it out cause of the huge praise it got. Classic Godzillas has no motivation he’s a rampaging walking atomic calamity a force of nature and everything is just in his way humans are just ants in his playground. In every iteration Godzilla is male capable of asexual reproduction the always use he or it pronouns to describe him.

Hey guys, the reason the movie has such a low budget is because of the Japanese film industry treating its actors/creators very poorly, Canon is correct at the end. The actors, and more importantly the crews, in this movie had very small salaries, and the director/writer was doing VFX work himself, in addition to having to force the VFX artists who were working with him to work long hours for very little pay. It is amazing a movie like this can be made for as little as it was, but the reason its budget was so low is because it came at the cost of the wellbeing and lives of the people who worked on it.

The director has made a separate video explaining why he was able to make this movie on such a low budget. Long working hours are now prohibited by law in Japan, and the working environment has improved.
