Just came across your channel. With my mountain biking background I cringed when I saw you head for Anderson's. I've ridden everything in my cross bike, all except Anderson's. The drop to Bedford Creek is brutal. Have you considered up and down The Oaks instead. This is our favourite Blue Mountains ride for cross bikes.

Heads up Josh if you ever go on a Intercity train again - there are cars that have bit more room set aside specifically for bikes - there is normally a little blue bike sticker next to the door to identify which is which - still pretty tight but definitely a lot more room than you encountered :)
@joshkwan Жыл бұрын
Thanks for that! I’ll defs keep an eye out for the sticker.

You will have to go back and finish the Woodford to Glenbrook section, some great downhills! Although I guess you may have already. Back in the 80s, I rode that section from Woodford Store to the Glenbrook rangers station in 1h 6m on a MTB.

2:17: you needed to go into the other end of the carriage where the vestibule is larger and you can hang up your bike on the meat hooks. I catch those trains on my commute from Penrith to Strathfield and ride from Strathfield to the city.

Best wishes to Chris for a speedy and full recovery. Like other commenters I've done that ride a few times (very long ago for me) but always on a full sus MTB. I would NOT do well these days on a gravel bike so goodonya for having a go.

Some of the rocky downhill sections would be more suitable for MTB, but it isn’t too bad if you take it slow on the grav

Cracker intro & great story telling on the ride! Sucks about Chris glad he’s not too discouraged with all the crashing. Wow that psi, I’m going to try lowering my psi in the 20’s next ride. I’ve been running mid 30’s on my maxxis ramblers as I feel it’s perfect for not getting too many rim strikes on rocky descents:)
@joshkwan Жыл бұрын
Thanks matey, I also should have said I run foam inners so I can get away with lower pressures. Gotta protect that rim 🤣

@karlocayabyab6744 Жыл бұрын
It's solid fun. If you guys ever do the Oaks, i'm happy to chaperone. I'm local. There's some good off tracks to ride and a cool single track (first half is pretty good for the gravel bikes)@@joshkwan

Always carry a snake bite bandage now it's getting warmer and know how to apply it. I've seen a few snakes out already and that bandage could save your life while you're waiting for emergency services
@joshkwan Жыл бұрын
100% For those who are reading this, a snakebite bandage has extra compression to squeeze your blood and lymphatic system and slow the spread of the poison. Thanks for the tip mate!

Hey mate! Just had a quick look on TripView. Majority of trains are fine all carriages, the occasional one says “travel in the back 7 carriages” Hope that helps

Tip number 4, bring a doctor to your rides. Better come next time
@pip7907 Жыл бұрын
Damn, looks like you all handled a rough situation pretty well! To add one more tip: If you're out in the bush, bring a personal locator beacon. Hopefully you never have to use it but sometimes the help has to come to you. National parks NSW lets you rent them for free. Otherwise, buying one is a lot cheaper than what most of us spend on bikes😄

Yeah Anderson’s is not for gravel bikes, unless you’ve got mad skills
@forzer4567 ай бұрын
I don’t understand gravel riders 😂 why not use a cross country mtb? The struggle you guys put yourself to not ride a mtb is funny. I don’t doubt a gravel bike can get the job done but with at least a cross country mtb it is more adapted for the terrain and more safe. We all want to explore new trails but doing it on gravel seems like tying one hand behind your back.
@joshkwan7 ай бұрын
Agree with you mate. Gravel bikes are more suited for dirt roads and the like. Another advantage is you can easily ride on the road to reach the trails. That being said anything lumpier than a cobble driveway and you’re in a bit of trouble haha
@gypana6 ай бұрын
100% agree, all you need is a good road bike and a good MTB and you're covered for most of your riding...a lot of people underestimate just how gnarly some of those off road and fire trails get.
@badshelby5 ай бұрын
having ridden the Oaks on a gravel bike and MTB, I would also suggest to stick to the MTB here. The descents are the best bits and they are hard to enjoy on the gravel bike
