In this week's episode of Gear orGadget we are reviewing three different items for hunting! These product reviews are based off of our use in the field with these products. We aren't just going to read you the spec sheet off the product listing from the manufacturer's website!
The first item up is a grunt call that has been super effective for the Exodus team. That is the Extinguisher grunt call from illusion game calls. Jake has had a lot of recent success killing mature bucks with it, and Cameron has had some success in Ohio and PA as well using it. The thing that makes this grunt call, in our opinion, a great tool to have in your arsenal is the ability to change the tone of the vocalization from a fawn bleat to a mature buck grunt in seconds. On the side of the call there is a tab that can be pushed from fawn, to mature buck or anywhere in between. The illusion game calls team does a fantastic job educating consumers on how to properly make vocalizations in the woods which makes using the call and knowing what sound to make easier. The Extinguisher is GEAR for us.
The next item up is a saddle platform. This particular platform is the mission platform from Trophy Line, but for this review the particular platform isn't the highlight. The importance of hunting with a platform rather than using a stick platform or a ring of steps is what we want to talk about. Cameron and Chad both started off saddle hunting with the top stick platform with the mindset that if they were going to take a platform to the woods, they might as well just be hunting out of a stand. Well, they're now both still saddle hunting and running platforms. The best way to be effective in a. saddle is to be still, comfortable, and have a larger range of motion to make strong side shots. Hunting with a platform simply makes saddle hunting a better experience. Saddle platforms are GEAR for the Exodus team.
The last item up may come as a surprise to some as we are discussing lighted nocks and deeming them a gadget. Now hear us out, there are some lighted nocks that work, and there are plenty of uses where having lighted nocks is beneficial. However, the majority of lighted nocks available to bowhunters are pretty terrible options. Chad particularly has had a terrible experience with lighted nocks and is completely switching over to using just a white nock. Using white still allows you to track your arrow to see where you hit your mark in person and on video camera, and won't leave you pulling your hair out because it didn't light up, lit up on your string, in your quiver, or you cant turn the dang thing off! The majority of lighted nocks on the market for us bowhunters are GADGETS for the purposes of this video!
