Hey man Jimi Hendrix and frigging voodoo child is what made me fall in LOVE with blues I’m 16 years old man and I love old blues my music teach said blues singers are one of the most TALENTED singers EVER the amount of control he said you must not should MUST have over your voice to sing like Stevie ray Vaughan and how he yells but still sings is incredibly difficult and is dying off because not many new singers can sound like that WITH auto tune and the fact Stevie did that in the 80’s when there was no auto tune? Phhhht crazy and Jimi didn’t really do it as great as Stevie did but he said he still had amazing control

@@zombywoof7309 It's subjective Zomby. I stated as much. I retracted said subjective nature in the next sentence but there was a joke implied. Derek is not outside the conversation for the best in the world. I've seen him live. Also seen Gibbons, Betts, Haynes, B.B., Mayer, Clapton, Winwood, you name 'em. Recently, you're quoted as saying Rory Gallagher and Terry Kath are elite level players deserving of similar respect. What world do you inhabit where you can give those dudes immense credit (which you don't have the right to pass out any more than I), but can't give Derek his due? Rory and Terry would show respect. You better than them? Clapton said Duane was the best in the world way back when Layla was being cut. Derek is real close, if not past, where Duane was skill wise when he crashed that bike in Macon. It's my opinion, sure, but it's an educated one. You go listen to Chicago. I'm going to go listen to Trucks recreate Coltrane saxophone masterpieces on a SG with a bottleneck and I guarantee I'll still be happy. The solos on 25 or 6 to 4 are dumb fire though. You'll be happy too. See how that works?

All due respect to Mayer but having a great understanding of music is not the same as being a great player. Some of the best blues and rock guitarist of all time barely knew a damn thing about 'music theory'. Hell, SRV couldn't even read sheet music. He'd wipe the floor with any of them and wrote pieces like Lenny. Mayer is a far more talented player than I'll ever hope to be and has a great ear for blues but let's not go crazy.

The best guitar solos have nothing to do with what technicality you bring . It’s where you put the notes. It’s the pauses between the notes. The build. Why you think Bb king is so famous. He doesn’t do anything technical or fast. But he’s got soul. So does John and so does Derek trucks. This solo he laid down is insane. And with a slide. Every note put in perfectly . Builds with the band. Ends softly so king can come back in nice and smooth. Nobody on here should have a negative comment about anyone on here . Strictly for the fact …. They are up there and you are here 😂.

Not gonna lie, you hear a lot of people imitating SRV and Jimi well, but everyone I hear trying to imitate Trucks hardly ever comes close.... this full video is phenomenal, and John Mayer is mesmerized, and has his face literally buried in Trucks' guitar. #ThatSlideThough

… and his face. I noticed that from the start of this video. People do like to witness the skills of other people… true. … but you ever notice that the ones with honest passion, true to their heart? They will look at your face to see if they can understand where that skill is coming from? Where it resides & where it's born? Your emotions help people to understand. I think his eyes are stuck on his face?

Of course it’s a competition. Trees compete for sunlight. Animals compete for food, territory, and breeding rights. Humans compete for that and everything else. You read on the internet that “music is not a competition” which sounds enlightened, however is utterly ridiculous to a professional musician.

Have not had the opportunity to be blessed by Derrick and his wife but I did get to see the Allman Bros. Band at the Atlanta Pop Fest. 1970. They were absolutely mesmerizing and played so brilliantly they help me transfixed and to think they where a mixed racially band back in the 70's when it did not matter where you were from just could you play. So many great performers played to kids who did not see color just acceptance, my how times and music have changed. Miss those days of jams in the park with music on the weekends and the free food kitchen when kids played and moms and dads brought their picnics and the whole day was paceful.
