Easy day. Plus you can bail out. There’s another one called under/over cliff which is basically a road loop. Sorta flat-ish. Great starter hike if you want to test out your bionic parts. The rangers can drive to you if there’s an issue :) For a test run.

Beautiful hike! Great video! I prefer Minnewaska where you pay by the car instead of per person but to each his own 🤷‍♂️

I live here so I normally get the yearly pass. For the number of times I go totally worth it. Also minniwaska get clogged with massive crowds at times. Lines to get in etc. awesome terrain and I do like the area.

@@jaycreature3893 I agree 💯%. Minnewaska is way too touristy until you really get out there where the casuals drop off. Hard to get in to all those trails when the weather’s nice if you’re not early

@@JESTA217 I always like when I can actually smell all the perfume laden perfectly dressed visitor’s circling the lake . I come out of the brush smelling like a skunk ape …. I wonder how many people never know they are steps. Away from awesome trail adventures. The loop around the lake is fun. And I get it.

@@jaycreature3893 I get it. Let them take their pictures and go. I see very few actually on the trail. I go from the parking lot to the lake, quick swim & lunch, then back. About 8 miles

@@jaycreature3893 $70 for a yearly pass seems reasonable, but $15 for the day for hikers feels like the Mohonk Preserve is gouging folks. Admittedly, the trails are very nice and more isolated than Minnewaska. Thank you for sharing.

Hahaha. Thanks!! It is a nice hike. That entire area is so beautiful.. I love New Paltz area, "Gunks", lake Minnowaska..I will have to check this out for a day hike next time Im up there. How far is it from actual village of New Paltz?

@@dirtbagoutside tons of maps both physical and digital Look up minniwaska and or shawanagunks map set. The video is technically is the Mohonk preserve but is also pretty close to Minniwaska They overlap. My maps are in my gear cave. I’ll try to find out which map set I have The Avenza maps are free for there. Also this area has actual trail signage

Gotchs. I use Avenza maps so I can find it on there. I also have all the maps from NYNJ trail conference.. I will scour through them and find which ones. Thanks

Definitely pretty sick. How does it compare to my favorite trail in Catskills.. Escarpment trail?? Is overnight camping an option anywhere off trail in that area?? As I'm watching this.. It is actually really nice.. Continuous views and ledges..

“Can’t legally” camp there. But I’m not sure you’d get caught. Like if a local dropped you off somewhere lol then walk back to your car. Wink wink nod nod. Don’t do it. It would be wrong lol
