Many people said there is a hidden programme that is unleashed if you disconnect and bridge the clutch switch at the handle bar. Did it and the bike went from 137Km/h top speed to 157Km/h (!!!!!!). Both in slight inclination. The difference is huge because now i could drive always in peak power or one gear down. Imagine what a custom ECU could do with a full exhaust. Consumption went 50% up though, marginally 100km before the light goes no lol.

The biggest reason I would do a ecu swap/ fuelling controller is the idle/off idle area of the throttle. Current Japanese ( read the last few years) have atrocious snatchy throttles right down low which makes slow speed control extremelt difficult. Things like the MT07 actually were almost dangerous with thew way they come off low speed. They literally wheely when you don't want them to. The only thing that makes them smoothly responsive is a reflash properly. My cb500x also has the same problem. My partner's KTM 690 was also horrendous and it's not even japanese. That we have to add closed AND open loop electronic tamers to allow any real throttle control. Have you noticed any real improvement in that area?
@MotorcyclesOffroad2 жыл бұрын
Well it's a hard question to answer to be honest. I never had to much trouble with the throttle on this bike in particular, at least not that I noticed. But now the bike is much more fluid in it's power range throughout the revs. So maybe I didn't notice it, but there is no jerky feeling now.

Thanks for an interesting and informative video. My experiences are from the Crf250s. I started with rentals in Thailand where these bikes are made. And eventually I bought a Crf250L in Thailand. I thought these bikes were fantastic and that they pulled like a beast to be a 250 cc bike. So eventually I started to read forums related to the Crfs and was really amazed that people in the Europe and US complained that the Crfs were so gutless. Then later I bought a 2018 Rally in Norway where I live. And a 2018 should even be more powerful than the first year (2012) bike I have in Thailand. To my big surprise I found the Rally very gutless at low and middle rpms compared to the thai model. Yes the Rally has some power above 6200-6300 rpms, probably more than the thai model - but below that its really gutless compared to the thai model. (Both my bikes are stock when it comes to engine/exhaust/airfilter) So for sure this has something to do with the ECU/mapping. As you mention - the export models are restricted due to emission, noise etc etc. On the 300s the thai models are listed with 31 HP while export models are listed with 27 HP. On the 250s no such difference are listed but for sure there are - because I own both a thai model and an EU model. I wonder if the 550 guy can remap 250 EU model ECUs too? Because my thai bike is a blast to ride while my EU model is rather meh… to ride.

@MotorcyclesOffroad2 жыл бұрын
Firstly thank you for the support and subbing. As far as the air filter it is pricey I would do other mods first, it was one of my last/most recent mods. For me tho I needed to run a new filter to match my ECU tune for the Exhaust, intake, and 91octane. I think the biggest upgrades in order are probably: 1 Tires and offroad tubes 2 rear sprocket and chain (most tires will de-gear your bike because they are taller) 3. ECU mod for at least 91 octane ( I did a whole video on it) Now when you look into an ECU mod you might want to an air filter at that time maybe even an exhaust but just the stage one mod alone will be a huge difference.

My biggest issue (made me fail the driving test at the DMV) is the twitchy throttle at low speed. It goes from 0 fuel to a jerky fuel with the slightest touch of the throttle. Now I dont have any issue going from a stop, or stalling it out. But when I'm trying to do that 5mph dmv course it just jerks me back and forth. I have to literally practice with the clutch pulled in halfway to get it to succeed. Its in place for emissions, as in, they turn the idle basically off instead of letting it rev itself down when you let off the throttle. It was a problem with the older 450s as well and people had to make ECUs to defeat it. Could you do a test assessing if it still does this?

So you have power everywhere in the rev range.

Does this address the extreme heat from these bikes? How about the jerky throttle?
@MotorcyclesOffroad2 жыл бұрын
I have never experienced extreme heat. But yes running a bike lean as they come from factory will make more heat and less power. Throttle is fine for me.

What is the difference between an ecu reflash and something like a Dyno jet?
@MotorcyclesOffroad2 жыл бұрын
I think you mean the difference in an ECU vs EJK (Electronic Jet Kit). An EJK can effect the rate of the fuel injection, it basically controls the EFI. Where the ECU is the entire computer for the bike. With an ecu you can bypass codes like carbon canisters or in this case we use it to modify fuel rate and advance the timing of the bike.

About to get my 300l in the next few weeks after waiting since last may. I love the look of the yoshi pipe but what FMF exhausts fits this bike? And another pipes anyone else recommend? Whichever i end up with i need a spark arrestor in it as well.
@MotorcyclesOffroad2 жыл бұрын
I don't know about the FMF but I will say the Yoshimura has a spark arrestor you can buy with it. I custom fit one from Amazon.

This is true and its funny I am reading this comment at this very moment. I am writing the script for my DRZ400 full review lol I would say your only option is to add a one tooth bigger sprocket on the front.

Hmm guy scared of the crf300l but rides a drzE 🤔😂
@MotorcyclesOffroad2 жыл бұрын
Well they build power different. The 300L modded is instant torque straight away. The carb'ed DRZ takes time to build up the power give you time for reaction.
@slakk50932 жыл бұрын
@@MotorcyclesOffroad i just found it funny, does the 300L power wheelie in first if you snap open the throttle?.. I would be very surprised if the 300L had anywhere near that power. I am looking to buy a 300L but im just being realistic, the DRZ-E is quite a bit more powerful.
@MotorcyclesOffroad2 жыл бұрын
Well yeah mine will throw you off the back but Idk about stock I cant remember. I mean almost anything can wheelie in first if you sit a little further back on the seat. Where it comes into play if if you kinda land wrong off a whoop or small jump you dont notice on the DRZ but you might torque the throttle a little, since it takes a second or so to build up power pulling a vacuum to bring gas up the jet and into the cylinder no fuss no muss. You do this on the 300L (at least with upgrades) the power is instant and it will throw you off course. There is no, or I should say a fraction of the lead up time until the power in the engine starts spinning the front sprocket.

@@MotorcyclesOffroad I think when he used that chart it was $124.99 plus $100 core. So $224.99 and you get your $100 refund after he receives your old core. Now it's 299.98 minus $129.99 if you send in your core making it $169.99. Otherwsie you can just send yours in and have it reflashed for $149.99

Usa, Canada and Mexico measures octane differently than other parts of the world. North America measures octane level in AKI - anti knock index versus most other parts of the world measures octane by RON - researched octane number. None of these are better or more accurate than the other - its just different methods… AKI numbers are approx 4-6 lower than RON numbers - so in this case 91 octane AKI is equal to approx 96 RON. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

A commenter Cyber Gasty pointed out US and thai ECUs are different form European ECUs, so you will have to reach out the 550 to see if they have exactly what you need. 2.) it seems 550Performance has updated/changed pricing. I do not yet have the confirmed pricing, I will update you guys when I the new information. I also wanted to include a copy/paste of my conversation with 550performance below. I wanted to be clear and transparent where I came up with my idea of the pricing named in the video. "550Performance: We do also offer core ecu’s as they are in stock. This helps speed up the process and minimize the down time. We charge $149.99 for them and will refund $129.99 if the core is returned. You sent(MotorcyclesOffroad) ok so you send it out and the person has x amount of time to send their ecu back to you? 550Performance: I haven’t implemented anything strict in the return time since it is beneficial to get ECUs back. 550Performance: So if a customer wanted to return a core a year from now I would likely accept it. You sent(MotorcyclesOffroad) So you are only making 20$ on something like that? 550Performance: Yeah, basically covers the fee associated with the process. We offer it solely to facilitate the sales of the tunes"
