David, this is the first video of its kind I’ve watched on your channel. I live in the Community section. 😊 I just wanted to say, whether I’m listening to you speak or write, I tend to forget I’m in the 21st century! That’s a huge compliment btw! This world we share today feels so disconnected even when people are trying their best to connect. More dead eyes than I’ve ever seen before. With you, I forget the pains of our modern society and slip into something more human…something timeless. Such a healing balm. Please continue to share the way you do. There’s a purity within you that speaks to the purity within me. It tells me it’s okay not to understand where we stand right now in history because it doesn’t actually make sense! You remind me of the heart and soul I was raised to believe would eventually rule our world. It hasn’t come to fruition but the gathering I find here shows me I’m not alone. You’re just such a beautiful human and I feel so thankful to have found you here. ❤

Excellent throwback! I am a geneologist for my family and i love finding treasures about past peoples ive come across who have helped my family along the way to freedom in Canada. Like Harriet Tubman who played all the part in freeing over 800 slaves at rice plantations in South Carolina, my family included. Both sides have fascinating tales. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful story about an amazing man.

Damn good story ! I love riding horses ! Horses are particular. They all have their very own personality . A friend of mine who rides bucin bronxs in the rodeo has a work horse named 22 if you didnt have spurs on he would be lazy i mean really to wer you would have to make him walk he wpuld just stop lol . We have a Palomino named Nugget totaly awesome with kids any of us adults saddle her up she gets to acting all skiddish and if you aint paying attention, she'll bite your knees. She's constantly trying to head back to the barn .lol she used to be a show horse, steps sideways reverse all kinds of different little tricks . My o ladys mom had a horse Blaze who was a race horse Mrs Penny was the only one who could ride him i tried her son tried whos definitely a better rider than i but nope . Mrs Penny ride him bare back and bare footed holding nothing but his mane crazy lady 😅 as soon as put my boot in the stirrup, he takes off and boom, im dirt rolling lol same thing with my brotherinlaw he almost got his boot in the second one but not quite Blaze turned went one way broinlaw went the other lmao needless to say we never tried again thats Mrs.Penny's horse for sure . This is an awesome story Mr.Hoffman and the way you tell it is captivating, i can tell you enjoyed telling it . Great upload. Have a blessed night, sir !

The horse's IQ would have tested about equal to the handler's - the horse was bonded, and read the handler's body language. It's like Clever Hans - when he gets near the right answer, the handler starts to tense up, then relaxes when the horse reaches it. The handler probably wasn't even aware of what was going on, because it's all natural responses that you're rarely aware of. It really is a wonderful story, though, even if there's a fully rational explanation. It's still a story of a man who changed the world, and about a special bond between one man and one horse. They were both special, because that sort of a bond is rare and fragile. Thank you for telling the story.
@Guitarbarella10 күн бұрын
Horses are VERY smart though-prob smarter than dogs. I have owned horses that are so cunning -some seem to have a very dry wit and they can be very patient. I remember watching a video of them testing iq with them with food and a bucket-they assumed the horse was stupid by the reaction but they completely failed to see the logic of the horses action which made it smarter than the people testing it! lol

Thanks, David, for your wonderful description and story of Beautiful Jim Key. I an nearly 80 and have known about Jim Key (and have the book) for a very long time. So this was a special treat for me to find today! I hope that you are able to make the movie of this unusually intelligent and trainable horse. More importantly, the horse's intelligence was enhanced due to the understanding and loving care of Bill and their very special relationship. That is the key (pardon the pun)! What a great story! Had quite a "horse phase" as a girl living in suburbs of Columbus, OH. Read every horse book and went to a museum in KY with nod tio Secretariat. One of favorite books was Walter Farley's "The Black Stallion". Spent hours drawing and painting The Black. Really appreciated Francis Ford Coppola's movie when it came out. Little dialogue and so much about the relationship of boy and horse. Sure hope Jim Key gets a movie....with Morgan Freeman. Thanks David. ❤️

Loretta looks like an Egyptian Arabian breed. I have a half Arab-half Pony of America horse named Cowboy. He’s spectacularly smart and communicative. He’s 23 years old now and I bought him 12 years ago. I had been told he had been trained a number of tricks but no one had the manual! I wouldn’t know if I did something like swing a rope near his front leg he would count with his leg the same number of times I’d swing the rope. I was told he was used to go on hunting rides in the mountains where they would shoot off his back (he would just stand like a statue) and he would carry the shot deer back down the mountain. I also suspect he was mistreated, you can’t bring a whip or crop anywhere near him. He gets overly reactive and nervous. Nor did he like when once another horse was being mishandled and he gave me push with his nose to have me intervene, giving me a pleading soulful look from his big brown eyes as if I needed to put a stop to it, now! (I did) He is the horse in the pasture that helps get the fly masks and halters off of his herd mates. He’s getting old now. But his intelligence and humor haven’t diminished. He is my heart horse. I touch him like I would pick up a tiny flower. Horses are so sensitive. They do not need to be trained harshly, the more gentle and reciprocal the better a partner that horse will be. I will watch any movie with a horse in it as long as there isn’t abuse involved (I shudder when I watch the old cowboy flicks!) I loved the movie Hidalgo with Viggo Mortenson it was one of the best horse movies showing a love and partner ship between man and horse, action packed and incredible stunts, great plot and visually thrilling whether the landscape, the horses or Viggo 😍I can watch it over and over again. That says a lot because I’d rather be out with my horses than inside watching anything!
