Great list and video! My favorite halloween game I just re-discovered is Gauntlet Dark Legacy, It has that perfect 90s goofy halloween vibe that is so hard to find nowadays. Perfect to have fun with friends in local coop. Dusk and Cultic are two boomer shooters that are also just perfect for this season, goofy, spooky, gory and fun.

Ooooh I highly recommend crow county. I saw the trailer today and it looks like a resident evil meets slender man with rpg side quests. But it has such a cool polygonal art style I’m super excited to play it

If Lost in Random coutns as indie, i would have included that one too. It's not outright Halloween-themed, but there's plenty of monsters, ghouls and darkness.

@@humblemudgames There's nothing like Lost in Random out there. the entire catalogue of Zoink! as the dev studio was called tends to be out-there, in great part thanks to the art style. One of their oldest games was meant for the original Xbox and eventually released on the Wii, named The Kore gang: Outvasion from Inner Earth if i'm not mistaken. I don't know what happened to the studio, but since then, Zoink! have rebranded into Moonhood Studio, the ones working on The Midnight Walk. The upcoming prequel/side-quel? Lost in Random: The Eternal Die is being made by a different developer. Many people are already slamming it for not being like the first game, but i want to give it a chance. I'm just glad to have more LiR at all. (disclaimer: Some information i may have gotten wrong or may be outdated. Don't take me as a prime pillar of information.)

It's not exactly a spooky vibe, more a creepy one, but Hylics is incredibly unique, bizarre, and fun. Old school RPG mechanics and an absurdist style that almost reminds me of Eraserhead or that Oingo Boingo flick, The Forbidden Zone. I hear the sequel is even better.

It's not an Indie but Disney's The Haunted Mansion on PS2, Xbox, and GameCube is an excellent game to play during the Halloween season. It's got an awesome atmosphere and some really clever puzzles solving in it. It's cheap to boot so it's perfect if you want a spooky game from that generation that isn't Luigi's Mansion.

To be honest, I don't usually pay much attention to Halloween (since it's not traditionally a Swedish holiday), buuuuuuut... I was already planning to play _Slay the Princess_ now that I've finished the new Zelda. So maybe I should just get a Halloween/horror/occult theme going to make game selection easier. Let's see what I can come up with off the top of my head... Slay the Princess Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 Scarlet Hollow The Letter House of Chavez Project Zomboid _(with friends)_ Night Cascades The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood _(it's about witches)_ Honestly, those are just the games I already have installed on Steam that pretty much fit the bill. I'm sure I have more in the backlog and on the Switch that would be appropriate...

@@humblemudgames Scarlet Hollow and Slay the Princess are made by the same developer and have the same art style! I played the free Episode 1 of the former over a year ago and the demo of the latter just last month, and they're both delightfully weird and spooky.

It's more of a trippy spooky game than a halloween spooky game, but I very thoroughly enjoyed Lunacid. First-person 3d action-rpg dungeon crawl. Strong vibes, worth watching a few minutes of gameplay. I'll take any excuse to recommend "Astalon: Tears of the Earth" It's not going for halloween spooky either. But climbing a creepy tower with traps and secrets where one of the main mechanics is bargaining with Death for more power is still a _little_ spooky. Exploration-platformer with secret passages and puzzles, neat character-swapping mechanic. I came across enough secrets by accident that I felt comfortable and driven to clear as much of the game as I could without outside help. Satisfying experience. I _want_ to be able to recommed Romancelvania but I really can't. -The premise is great, the intro sets an incredible tone, the three initial love interests are perfect. -The metroidvania part is basic and slow _and_ long, the narration and comedy take a backseat after the first round, the love interests get more extreme as you progress including but not limited to: a deviant (yay!) who literally doesn't understand consent (boo!) and needs to be told not to harass other contestants. And a sadistic dominant who hates and wants to kill you.

@humblemudgames i have celeste too and i ragequit that too. Im very bad at platformers and any difficult combat games that requires timing snd blocking lol. I prefer to just mindless bash buttons or level up and get super strong.

Beyond Shadowgate has been fun but getting back into the point and click groove had been kind of difficult and repeating certain tasks multiple times or some items being literally useless is kind of annoying. I'm happy it was made though.
