Thanks! I've watched every video you made for the planes I own, and they have helped tremendously. I recently purchased an FMS Viper 70mm V2, because I believe it will help me tune my skills for the Freewing F15, and Freewing F16 Thundebird edition. When I maidened by Viper, I had watched enough to set everything up correctly, however, in light winds, I didn't sufficiently anticipate the plane stalling on a turn. I thought I had enough thrust to get through the turn but did not. I anticipated other factors as the cause (a hot wifi signal interrupting reception, problems with the used receiver I had in the model). Basically it hit the ground and the nose broke off. I've since repaired it, changed and reoriented the receiver, and this time I watched you video that discusses stalling this plane. I was ready in maiden #2 to try again in light wind (

Thanks so much Robert! We really appreciate the super thanks donation. Your experience is precisely why we showed how aircraft stall and how to recover from stalls. The thrust to weight ratio on the Viper 70 (FMS variant) is so high that it's relatively easy to power out of a stall and get airflow over the wings again. It's super common for people to unfortunately stall this jet out and wreck it - and if these videos can help even a small handful of people save money and have more fun flying, then it's worth it for us to continue producing them.

Yep! Which is why we want to see everyone succeed - some other reviewers will just show you that the plane can fly. What we want to do is show you that it can fly *and* show you that you can fly it without wrecking it too. Because knowledge should be shared, and flight / aerodynamics is hard enough already.

We don't fly from a location that has grass that's suitable for flying, and Vipers are already well-known for handling grass well. This one should do even better with the shock absorbing landing gear, which should make it a good model for anyone regardless of where they fly.

Hi, can you translate your flap settings into EdgeTX's servo travel scale? Rather than using percentages like Spektrum, -100 is full deflection in one direction, 0 is centered, and +100 is full deflection in the other direction. If -100 is flaps up and +100 is flaps down, where would your settings be? Or alternatively, what are your settings in millimeters of travel? Thanks!

We'd highly recommend finding pavement or smooth dirt to fly from. Grass is terrible for many reasons, most of which relate to the amount of stress that the uneven surface causes to aircraft gear and the mounts that hold them in place. There is no perfect grass jet - the only thing that's come close for us to being usable on grass is the Viper 70mm and Viper 90mm.

@RC/Lego Guy We're using an AR637T via bit.ly/3dCjiuO - which is a solid choice for this model. You could use an AR8360T but the only advantage to it would be running a trimmable nose wheel. There's no special configuration for this model that we're aware of that's worth the effort.

@@bgblindt Currently yes, because it's in stock and has some nice upgrades. If HH comes out with a new version of it, we'd suggest going for that if you prefer the E-flite trim scheme and BnF setup. Will the fms 70mm viper fly safely on a 4s battery? Yes, I know the 6s is recommended and yes I know the performance will be less, but will it fly safely on a 4s? I don't want to experiment to find out and then have it crash because it does not have enough power to stay in the air.
@TwoBrosRC
@TwoBrosRC 13 күн бұрын
Definitely wouldn't recommend it. No idea if it's safe or not, but you'd be missing out on a ton of thrust. Get 6 cell packs if you're planning to fly a 6 cell jet - flying it on underpowered thrust is far more likely to cause a crash.

@@TwoBrosRC I hear ya bro but the plane is not for me. I'm an rc instructor. The plane was given to me as a donation for a 15 year old student I am training. He has some 4 cell batteries already but honestly can not afford 6 cell batteries. So I was hoping maybe the plane could run ok on 4 cell for his benefit. Since it is his first jet he would not miss the extra performance of the 6 cell. I had a Motion Rc Rebel 2 70mm that ran on 4 cell. This Viper weighs almost twice as much so I guess a 4 cell would not work. I'll probably give the kid one of my 6 cells.

As good or "different" than its E-flight counterpart w/Avanti 70mm gear set upgrade?
@TwoBrosRC
@TwoBrosRC Жыл бұрын
The E-flite version uses a less powerful motor, but it's still a solid jet with good performance. The Avanti gear upgrade is similar but requires something like $80 minimum plus shipping - this is a better deal at the moment. If HH releases another version of the Viper, we wouldn't be surprised if it's similarly priced to this Viper.

@TwoBrosRC
@TwoBrosRC Жыл бұрын
The landing gear changed from chicken wire to suspension struts, and it received a new paint job. We're also pretty confident that it has reduced stall susceptibility too - not by much, but just enough to be noticeable for us since we've flown four different Viper 70s by this point.

The “Blue Angels” esq Viper 70mm is v2 also.. the only difference between the “Standard” V2 Viper 70mm and this 15 year anniversary edition is the paint scheme, Landing gear (this is the huge deal) and the front landing gear cover (moulded differently to allow the new gear). The “standard” Blue Angel esq colored version should not be confused with the “original” Viper 70mm.

It probably won't fit unless it's very thin for a 5k pack. We highly recommend SMC 3600 packs, Spektrum 3200 packs, or SMC 4400s or Spektrum 4000s. Anything bigger will make the jet stall easier and fly worse overall.

I set all the channels and everything appears to be working properly.I bumped the motor rotation is right. The thing is.. I am use to setting the throttle full and plugging in the battery and getting a beep and lowering to zero and getting a beep to let me know I have full range of motion for the throttle.It's not doing that or when I plug the battery in I am not getting the beeps for the cell count. I have all control surfaces working and throttle from zero to full. I'm I missing something? Thanks, Mark

Your comments on accelerated stalls are useful, but not entirely correct. An airplane can stall at any airspeed, any attitude. Stall is a function of angle of attack, not airspeed. The wing load factor has a huge impact on stall speed, which is why a stall in a turn or with abrupt control movements (higher load factor) is more likely. At 60 degrees of bank, the load factor increases by 40 percent (and along with it, stall speed). A stall at greater than 1g load is an accelerated stall. Great channel, just found it and enjoying your reviews!
