Sam's content (at least in the past when I watched a lot) was very casual friendly and is how I got into Yugioh too. Then I moved to Farfa, the "competitive-casual". Then I moved to mainly Josh, the more competitive pick. I think it's a good balance.

Sam definitely gets a lot of hate from parts of the yugioh community bc his persona and over appealing to casuals but we are honestly lucky that Sam is that sorta bridge to the casual audience since there could be much much worse people than Sam who clearly still has a lot of history and reverence with the game unlike the grifters you see in Pokémon community for example. Plus I think he’s right the community can be infamously unwelcoming to new and returning players so people need to not take themselves so seriously

My friends - my main testing partners are either out of state now or very very busy. I havent had motivation to go to even locals cause of last format and how high the price ceiling is with the charmys. I haven’t played a genuinely serious and intense game of yugioh in months but its one of my favorite things like ever despite its obvious flaws. Yes ik there are sims and stuff and i have dabbled in ranked ladders but absolutely no sim to me will beat the rush of playing paper. Sams rant really reminded me why I’ve stuck with the game since I was 8 and competitively since I was 15 so even tho he wont see this thanks Sam and congrats on ur big win.

They have a good point about the YCS being smaller but do to conditions they’re right. Only the people who really want to be there and have a drive to win and play would be there so it’s a smaller pool of the best players. You could argue even the first games would be harder because you’re more likely to be put against the better players at the start
